Peel Park
I was talking to my half cousin yesterday.
His father made 183 league appearances for Preston between 1932 and 1938. Jack was on Preston's books but went on to Marine and Burscough. Whilst at Marine he was in the same team as our next door neighbour between 1960 - 1965. They appeared in Lancashire Combination matches against Stanley reserves. As one of the first grounds to get them Peel Park was the first place any of them had ever played under floodlights and they found it a strange experience. Jack told me that they even had gas heaters under the main stand. (This possibly explains the activity in my signature photograph.) Jack recalled playing against Les Cocker and the young Mike Ferguson. Though it cannot have been in the same match unless Mike was trialled in the year before he made his full debut. |
