Godwin Antwi

.. is apparently on our radar! Coley is quoted in todays Telegraph as attempting to sign him. Also mentions Darran Kempson as 'a hope'

Would love to see God playing in a Stanley shirt again, but sadly can't see it happening. Think we've heard rumours like this before.

Re: Godwin Antwi

Was just thinking the same Wynonie, if I remember rightly the stumbling block last time was we couldn't afford his wages and I can't see that having changed. Darren Kempson could be a good possibility though.

Tin Monkey 26-05-2009 14:26

Re: Godwin Antwi

Kempson could be a possibility, but is he right for us? He went to Wrexham, but didn't set the world of fire and spent some of last season on loan at Forrest Green. Added to that he signed a 2 year deal at Wrexham, who would presumably be looking at some kind of fee to let him go.

Would love to see Godwin back :) Not sure what the position is re-wages  Always saw Kempson as an accomplished player, but hear what people are saying about form at Wrexham Etc. Still maybe he just did not fit???? All depends on who of our current defence we manage to keep...
King? Cav? Rocky? Phil? Charnock? Bell?? Leam? Murdock - Gone, Murphy - Signed up...... And the main man at the back - Kenny...

i think we will end up with edwards leam bell and murphy, cant see king signing a pay as u play or the cav or rockys situation been dealt with. probably drag on all year knowing the f.a. kempson had his chance and thought wrexham was a better proposition so it would be a no for me. godwin tho yes pleeeaaasssee:-)

Why on earth would we want to end up with Bell. He is the worst excuse for a footballer I have seen in a long time.

I can see where Rude-dog is coming from, Bell will be cheap and I am sure that the management will want to keep him.... This has nowt to do with being able to play footy...

Depends what as, it's certailnly not as a footballer. Anyhow, I think you're all rather cynical if you're suggesting the fact that he's a mickey mouser and his dad's assistant manager has had any bearing whatsoever on the club offering him a contract.:D

Exactly. Bell is a long way from being a Football League standard player but we just can't have a squad of Football League standard players. Anyone with any sense knows that.

He is however a far cry from the calamatous mong that sensational posts on this thread have stated. For a club with our resources he's a decent player to have for 3rd choice full back, which is all he'll ever be to Stanley.

I think the reason we didn't get Kempson last time was due to the transfer fee being demanded for him by Shrewsbury, rather than any decision being made by the player himself.

Are you refering to Kempson?

No, James Bell. I quoted timmins' post which referred to Bell, and I also used Bell's name in my first paragraph. I thought the personal pronoun would carry over to the second paragraph without confusion.

Just a thought..... But when Godwin went to Spain, was he ACTUALLY released by Liverpool???? Or is he STILL a Liverpool player???

IF he is STILL a Liverpool player and under contract, then maybe his wages (IF paid in FULL by Liverpool ) would not be an issue ???

Anyone shed any light on this ???

It's all about how you read it and today it makes sense, sorry.:)

Shaker says:- "Exactly. Bell is a long way from being a Football League standard player but we just can't have a squad of Football League standard players. Anyone with any sense knows that."

I've seen plenty of Sunday league full backs who would do a better job for us. Some of them could even tackle.

Re: Godwin Antwi

In Bells case , i think hes had more bad games then good!, but in a few games he has done his fair share , but thats what it is with him , just his fair share! It always looks like he has a limit of effort he does, he just never seems to go over the top and to put that extra 10% effort in! He isnt the best defender in the league but he really isnt the worst! But in reality he doesnt add anything into the squad at all and if we are a club that want to push forward then we need better! Maybe we could send him out on loan to get more games under his belt and to maybe train with a fellow club away from his fathers influence! We need someone in defence who can put the extra 10% in , is a leader, doesnt cost the club too much money, has a good fitness level and has experience! And i think God could be that!

Bell went on loan to Prescot Cables two seasons ago and did nothing. In the Observer today Jimmy Bell says Stanley have given Jay Bell an ultimatum. "We have offered him a deal but told him he has to get fit first. He may be my son but it's about football". If it's about football then we shouldn't have offered him a deal.

Re: Godwin Antwi

It's hardly just fitness! It's also positional awareness, the ability to tackle, ball distribution. Jay Bell has none of these.
