ta-da football, unless Chester manage to get the FA to issue them with a licence to play.

Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
Didn't particularly like what he said about the club regarding playing facilities, He was the chair of ASFC so why didn't he upgrade the facilities when he had the chance, oh yes and pay the bloody taxman.

Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..

Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
the more i think about E.W.s comments, the more i think they smack of bitterness? since the DON took command, there IMHO has been positive moves coming from the club of which i have been very pleased. many of these things i guess E.W. would never countenance, so just maybe he wants the DON to fail? could be totally wrong, but thats whats goin through my mind.:(

Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..

Stabby Whalley.....sound familiar?
I find it incredible that a man so passionate about your club can now turn round and be as critical as that. Hasn't he been Mr Accrington Stanley for all these years? If so why neglect the ground and not pay what's due to the tax man? Now he's left it for somebody else to sort out, Stabby Whalley...sounds about right. Best of luck guys for the season. Rivals on the field but comrades off. |
Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
Like the quote in the Observer,'Its just liaising with the manager, with the team and making sure everybody's happy'.That was one of Eric's strong points, making people happy!!
|
Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
He has certainly made me happy by leaving.
|
Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
Reckon he'll have his work cut out there with all their current problems. They can't even play their friendlies at the moment.

Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
you'll struggle to find anyone on here who doesn't appreciate all the good work that Mr Whalley put into the club. Unfortunately though, with Eric, he wasn't a "people person" and as such he has probably cost the club a lot of money in the long run.

Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
Drag a struggling club up by its boot laces. Give us all something we never thought possible ( re entry into the FL ) Improve the ground beyond all recognition, even though as he said it is still one of the worst in the league. All this on poor attendances that inexplicably go less as the club goes upwards, Having put according to one article £2 million of his own money in, and then be abused as some of the above post. No wonder Eric is cutting his ties.
He never used two words if one would do, except the occasional expletive. THANKS Eric and good luck whatever you do. |
Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
Where has somebody abused him?
all anybody has done is point out the frailties that I am sure he recognises himself |
Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
I think we can only say a great big thank you to Eric for all he has done for Stanley and I wish him well for the future, even if it is with Steven Vaughan, for whom I have very little time. I do have a sneaky little wish, however, for the coming season, which is that Russell Whalley should be turned away from the clubhouse one matchday! Who knows, if I wish hard enough, it could happen!!?

Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
Chester Crisis Goes To Court
Chester's ongoing inability to play matches shows no sign of lifting with the taxman meeting Administrators Refresh Recovery in court. The move can be reasonably assumed to be a challenge to the way the company in Administration arranged a CVA that would see the taxman get just 15% of it's dues. [Bulls News] Irony, what irony. |
Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
What Raver neglects to mention is the fact Don McKay was a great bloke, also a damn good manager of the rovers, fact they would never have progressed into the premier under him, through no fault of his own, he had took them as far as he could, under his working circumstances, the same parellel could be made fer E.W.

Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
Eric can be applauded for hiring Coleman and taking the club full-time paid staff, so credit where credt is due. My personal view is that JC is more than 70% creditable for the success with the budgets given. I believe, not many would have achieved the same with the given resources. BUT eric appointed him, and that was the masterstroke. Eastwood Hanley who are they ?

Words on Eric Whalley? On a personal and sentimental level I will miss him around. I'll always think that he could've 'gone out' in a better way had he sold up sooner, and I've been angry at his decisions/words often, but the commitment to the cause of getting the club back into the Football League can only be admired and the memories will be treasured always. |
Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
never put Eastwood Hanley and Eric Whalley in the same sentence please

Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
was that the game where Steve Bramwell (fishmonger) played in goal and the team turned up 15 minutes late?
|
Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
John Kilner was in goal, the remainder of the team consisted of stalwarts like Grimmy, Steve Parry, Rowwy, Martin Eatough all who left with Eric.
I can still hear the Champers rattling around in the boot of the Coach the Directors saw fit not to share them around and they brought them back to the club unopened. the team hasd played something like 6 games in a fortnight and it showed. |
Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
4-0 as I remember it. I still believe Eric knew he was going and taking half the team with him. I think it was the 88/89 season.
|
Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
Whilst I agree with most of the comments on Mr Whalley in that he has dragged the football club back into the big time (so to speak). I cannot forgive him for the comments on the mini series on what he said about the stewards. Washers - he should be have been thankful that people wanted to do the job and get all the sh*t from both home and away spectators. And yes I have been one of those abused by home speccies when attempting to do as I had been told by Mick and other senior stewards. It is a thankless task and one which Mr Whalley should have appreciated, especially when mucked about with wages.

Will look the date up but to my memory there were 2 big Eastwood games, plus one were we lost 4-0 when we Gerry Keenan was manager. The Steve Bram in goal was Boxing game in the early 80's, in a Cheshire League cup reply with a 1-30pm ko. Kev Bradshaw missed the coach, we waited for ages; then got changed on the coach, hence the late KO. A good day was had when we won (1-0 from memory) The "other" Eastwood game was when I was AWOL, but the story I believe was Accy needed to win and lost. Drinks were withheld and EW fell out with the directors on the way home??? |
Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
Talking of directors, I notice Frank Martindale has left the club. I will miss the banter on the coach to Torquay ( he being a St Helens RL supporter and my missus a Wigan Warriors supporter). I do hope he will have a long and happy retirement, but it would be nice to see him around the club. Thanks Frank, I for one will miss you.

Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
Slightly better news for Chester:
BBC SPORT | Football | My Club | C | Chester | Chester can make pre-season bow The FA's allowing a temporary reprieve for them to play Droylsden in a charity match. |
Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
It's not looking good for Chester. They met with the Conference and the FA on Monday and a statement was promised for yesterday. Nothing's been said since. As you'd expect, Grays, who are supposed to be hosting them on Saturday, aren't very pleased.
|
Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
According to the clubs owner on DEE 106 F.M.,The F.A. have granted affiliation so the game is on at Grays! And they have been docked minus 25 points apprentley!

Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
There's more on Official Statement by Board of the Football Conference Regarding Chester City (2004) Ltd and BBC SPORT | Football | My Club | C | Chester | Chester hit by 25-point penalty.
Irrespective of the 25 point deduction, Chester supporters must be breathing a huge sigh of relief. Best of luck to them in the new season. |
Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
I think Mick Wadsworth wants to check his facts (Or maybe the BBC) either way, Grimsby were not punished last season it was Rotherham, what a plonker Rodney

Re: Whalley joins Chester and injects Cash..
Now the FA's going to review the Conference's decision 'as a matter of priority':

Chester now been given permission to kick off their season this saturday. Though club still appealing against the 25 point deduction. apparently they are lucky to be in the BS premier as teams apparently relegated whilst in administration get relegated again to BSN but Chester claim they came out of administration prior to seasons kick off.
