Vs Rochdale match thread

Well, as its possibly the last ever game ever for ASFC (1968) Ltd.,I wanted to start the match thread AND make sure I'm up in the wee small hours to follow it on here. I hope Chimer and Michigan Red etc., are about and any more locals who can't make it to Rochdale...
..Can someone just confirm to me that your daylight saving hasn't finished yet please?

Re: Vs Rochdale match thread

The clocks go back tomorrow an hour, thewalkers sarted in the dark this morning, as thers a pic on the fishy site, might be an emotional day for one or two of the fans. Just hope we come out with 3 points and on wednesday everything will be sorted and coley and jimmy andthe players can continue the grest form to the play-offs and the jpt final. Also we keep al the players in the january transfer market.

Quite agree on all accounts. Syme's goal is a beauty and as good as you'll see anywhere.

DAV007 24-10-2009 18:08

Re: Vs Rochdale match thread

We played well today.
After the first half, I was worried Dale would continue to dominate us physically but we continued our effective inter-change in midfield and it paid off.
Symes lead the line very well, holding the ball up, bringing it down, winning headers - he is a key player for our team with the general lack of height in midfield.
I though Mconville didnt really get invovled today, although fair play to the lad he doesnt have a left foot so you couldnt expect him to be running past defenders down the outside.
I also though Joyce was quiet.
Our full backs where strong all game both defending and going forward.
Our MOM has to be Symes although Lees was impressive.

I doubt Dale will play that badly again, based on todays performance you would not predict them to be a top 6 team.

Dont forget, it could have been more than 2 goals. Kenny Authur made 2 good saves.

Re: Vs Rochdale match thread

Previous posters have said it all, but I have to point out Stanley's fantastic attitude today from front to back - never stopped chasing, harrying and pressing the Dale. Awesome!

Haggis316 24-10-2009 19:29

Re: Vs Rochdale match thread

Part of me wanted the whistle to go. But I fought back against that feeling because I wanted to savour life as Accrington Stanley in the Football League. Secondly but for 3 superb saves by Kenny Arthur the match would have been way beyond redemption for Rochdale.

I thought Winnard played really well with some deft interceptions. Cool play intricately getting out of some dangerous situations and good work on the flanks.

Symes goal one of the best I have ever witnessed first hand.

Here's a brace he got against Sheffield Wednesday:

YouTube - Bradford City 3 Sheffield Wednesday 1 Oct 29 2004

Stanley were absolutely superb. If that's the last memory of Accrington having a league club at least it was a great performance.

I thought it ironic that such a strong playing side should be hanging by a thread. Was it inevitable that things would turn out like this?

Wynonie Harris 24-10-2009 19:55

Re: Vs Rochdale match thread

Thought you summed it up perfectly this afternoon, Haggis - "The best side Stanley have had since 1958." Let's hope the directors can do them justice by getting us out of this mess!

smudgie 24-10-2009 20:53

Re: Vs Rochdale match thread

Another superb away trip.

Fans magnificent, Performance brilliant aswell. Shocking 1st half from both teams, tho we shud have scored at least 5 in the 2nd half.

Agreed Symes had another absolute blinder, he really is on fire at the moment.

only 1% complaint is that McConville simply isnt good enough, tho i dont think he would start if Miles or Turner where fit.

Please for gods sake, sort this bloody mess out, i seriously dont know what ill do IF the worst possible thing happens

Re: Vs Rochdale match thread

Am I watching a different team to you lot? Yet again everyone is coming away with the opinion that Symes was excellent and I just don't see it. His strike for the goal was superb; it was real class, but apart from that I thought he was largely disappointing. Strange.

Kempson was man of the match for me; a lionhearted performance from the big man at the back. I think Dunbavin deserves a mention too. I'm just so glad to come away from Spotland with a result! The lads showed at the end what it meant to them. I'm very proud of Coley & the boys today. Well done red men.

.

He competed in the air and held the ball up well. At one point in the first half Dales centre back stopped bothering to challenge him.
Numerous times he was strong enough to bring the ball down and turn.
He was our only physical presence and did very well.

shakermaker 24-10-2009 21:42

Re: Vs Rochdale match thread

Two/three times in the first half I can remember Symes jumping well to win headers. Aside from that though nothing stood out (apart from the wonder goal) and he seemed generally apathetic in his play. I thought Kempson, Procter and Kee offered the best physical presence throughout the game. Obviously none of this matters today but I do wish I could see what some of you lot are on about!

Oldgobbin 24-10-2009 22:40

Re: Vs Rochdale match thread

Once again I thought that Symes looked the complete centre forward today. The way he leads the line is a joy to watch. I really believe, Shaky, that you need to get the departed PM out of your head and watch Symes's play with an open mind. In my humble opinion, he is one of the main reasons we're doing so well. (No disrespect to the back four, who I thought were great again today!). Let's hope, by Wednesday, it hasn't all gone to waste!

Michael Symes goal was deservedly picked out by BBC's FLS as one of the two best of the day: BBC iPlayer - The Football League Show: 2009/2010: 24/10/2009 (start at 1:03:06) and it featured in the closing credits as well!

one of the most satisfying wins i can remember even though we didn't play too well.

It had looked like being one of those games where the keeper constantly defies you and then the other steal the points in the last minutes.

Well done Stanley.

football19 25-10-2009 08:41

Re: Vs Rochdale match thread

A lot of credit must go to the young fullbacks who covered the centre backs when defending but won all there headers and tackles, they also kept there shape even when rochdale had four forwards on the pitch.
You would never have known kempson was only 50% fit.
Tom lees impresses more ever game.Athough he came as a centre back looks so composed at right back and is starting to get forward, were as winnards pace and strength allows him to cover the centre backs as well as challenging the winger on his first touch.
Also symes should be playing at an higher level as his technique and ability is championship quality
