Should be a nice day out for them but thats where the sentiment ends we are out to win and win we will, I think a good 4-0 / 4-1 maybe.
After all the drama of the past weeks being resolved and decent form we are going to be firing on all cylinders. I honestly think we are in for a good cup run and a few shocks on the way. Hope its Leeds nxt round.

FA Cup First Round
Saturday 7th Nov 2009

Pitch news
The pitch at the Crown Ground is bearing up well ahead of this afternoon's match against Salisbury City.

There has been some overnight rain in Accrington though the pitch drainage has coped well, there is no official pitch inspection planned at this stage and as long as there are no torrential downpours ahead of kick off the game will go ahead as planned at 3pm.

Remembrance
Saturday 7th Nov 2009

Minute silence and collection
Please note that there will be a minute silence ahead of this afternoon's game against Salisbury City, to mark the annual act of remembrance for those who have given their lives in the service of their country.

At this time the club also remembers those dear to the club who we have lost recently, particularly including former player Alex Hamilton who was with Accrington Stanley at the time of their demise in 1962 and sadly passed away this week. We also remember those who are no longer with us whom we still hold dear, with our long serving former secretary Phil Terry in our minds, who sadly passed away this time last year.

There will be a collection at this afternoon's game in aid of the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal and the club would ask all fans to support this very worthy cause.

Re: Salisbury City.

Not the best of performances against mediocre opposition, the referee was a bit picky,Granty missed a couple of good chances,. A cold day ,the reds not warming to the task, but the right result. We need to get some cover for Dunbavin,as I thought he was injured at one time

shakermaker 07-11-2009 16:36

Re: Salisbury City.

That ref liked the sound of that whistle, didn't he!

It was an OK gate for a game that took place on a grim day against less than attractive opposition (on paper). Salisbury played some decent football, albeit lacking upfront and a little clumsy in defence. However it was that clumsiness that kept Symes & Grant well out of the game for most of the 90 minutes. I thought Jimmy Ryan, Luke Joyce and Dean Winnard played very well, as did the opposition goalkeeper James Bittner. The lads looked tired today. Ian Dunbavin's distribution was awful. I hope the knock that he took doesn't see him sidelined though.

The revised inside notes of today's programme (page 3) made for happy viewing. Thanks to Ilyas and Peter for making the trip, I hope you both enjoyed the game.

When's the draw for the next round then?

Bit too close for comfort, that was.
As always we were too hurried in possession when under pressure. Salisbury really gave it a go in the second half and can count themselves slightly unlucky not to get the draw. Having said that Bobby Grant could have had a second half hat trick with a bit more composure in front of goal. Ilyas seemed to enjoy his second half with the crazy gang!:D

We should have buried the game, Grant had at least 5 good chances, but he still looks the real deal. Great to see Jimmy Ryan get off the mark for the season aswell.

Nice 18k for the win aswell :)

Nice to be in the 2nd round draw, i can see it now tho Barrow or Colchester away :(

If you're planning to watch this game before the draw, Darren Randolph will be making his first start in goal for Charlton this year. Robbie Elliot has been first choice keeper but hurt his leg a couple of weeks ago. A third keeper with Stanley connections, Carl Ikeme, was brought in from Wolves on loan to replace Robbie but Wolves won't let him play in the cup.

Re: Salisbury City.

A Salisbury fan made me laugh:-

Cold, wet, windswept with more stone clad houses than I've seen since the early 80's..... The banging drum, the banners, the loo roll and red and white flags.... it was more like a european Tuesday night cup tie deep in the heart of eastern europe..... Lovely people with obviously a small but loyal following but as the wind whipped around the stadium and the ref blew the half time whistle, the prospect of a half time pie did little to life the spirits.

2nd half we produced something like 70% of what we all know Salisbury City can play like but it was sadly not enough. Darkness fell, a 5 hour drive home.... thank god we found a pub on the way back to drown our sorrows in.
