Aldersot match thread
Greetings and welcome to the first official match thread of the new season (I know the word official tends to upset folk on here so I'm being controversial)
I've forgotten the other login so you'll have to make do with me as me... It's sunny in Accrington and the pitch is green and grassy. Happy days |

Re: Aldersot match thread
By the way, did I break Accyweb? It died as soon as I started the thread!
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
Teams are out - a huge banner at the away end saying "forza Shots" and many little red plags in the Clayton End to accompany the ever-rousing Ultras. Superb atmosphere.
Football is back at the Crown folks... |
Re: Aldersot match thread
Yeah I reckon you might have broke it dan! Any news on lindfield or leam?
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
And we're off...
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
Lindfield isn't in the 18, but should be okay very soon.
Leam is here watching the game - it's a case of regaining fitness for him |
Re: Aldersot match thread
2: Sean McConville shoots wide
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
Be intersting to see what Super Glen still has in his locker :)

It's the first corner of the new season! Putterill's crossed deflected behind
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
Dave, I'm on Glen watch just for you.
He's playing just off the main striker at the minute... |
Re: Aldersot match thread
9: First big chance
Putterill spreads the ball to the right and finds mcconville, who hits as dipping effort which keeper Jamie Young claws over 10: Ryan forces Young to stretch again with a great effort from outside the box |

14 played and Stanley going well. McConville has caused some problems down the right
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
Watch Glen, already 3 ex Burnley players on the scoresheet after 12 minutes today :)
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
Own goal ld??
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
It's raining.
Which is bad news. As the pitch is about to get more "interesting" |
Re: Aldersot match thread
25: Aldershot chance - Hessey's tackle sees the ball squirm to Luke Guttridge in the penalty box and he shoots into the side netting.
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
29: Boulding nets but the flag is up for offside
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
30: Putterill shot blacked behind
|

What's the problem Dan ? |
Re: Aldersot match thread
The grass is a bit long because the surface isn't quite ready - meaning the ball isn't bouncing in a uniform way.
And on the cowshed side it looks like it's cutting up a bit... |
Re: Aldersot match thread
11 minutes left in the first half friends - Stanley doing well, passing pretty well and pressing the ball having made the better chances. The breakthrough eludes them though...
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
38: good save from Bavs - Marvin Morgan wriggles past Hessey and Edwards and gets a shot away but the stanley keeper blocks well
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
Aldershot's Anthony Straker is booked for a trip on McConville
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
I've just noticed that I've missed an H out of the thread title. Idiot!
One minute of stoppage time. |
Re: Aldersot match thread
At this moment in time I just thought I would let you know Morecambe are bottom of the league :)
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
That's half time...
Half time report on fishy site. |

|
Re: Aldersot match thread
46: massive let off for Stanley - the ball didn't bounce as Edwards expected it, he kicks thin air and Morgan is in - fortunately he shoots wide

52: McConville blasts an effort over
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
The hour mark and it's gone a bit quiet...
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
McConville's down in the area after stretching to try to reach a ball into the penalty area. Looks like he'll be okay though
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
Just for your information, it's taken 62 minutes for someone to shout "get Chris Turner on"
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
68: Parkinson on for McConville
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
68: Putterill's left wing cross is cleared by the defence to Ryan outside the box, who drills it goalwards but Young gets down well to save.
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
75: Barnett volleys just wide after Winnard's long throw is headed away.
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
80: Morgan gets between Hessey and the outrushing Dunbavin, then throws himself on the deck like a sack of spuds as the ball runs out of play
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
83: Glen Little's coming off for Aldershot - replaced by Wade Small
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
The referee's just booked Charlie Barnett for what looked like a superb sliding tackle
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
Wade Small played for Chesterfield last season and had a few seasons with Sheffield Wednesday before that.
Panther playing for the Shots is presumably the one I saw playing for York against Stanley when we beat York 2-4 in 2006. He was quite highly rated. |
Re: Aldersot match thread
89: Boulding stays on side to get to Winnard's pass down the left and cuts the ball back to Putterill, who kicks thin air inside the area
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
Into three added minutes
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
Boulding is coming off injured... Chris Turner to replace him
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
Full time 0-0
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
At least they are off the mark with a point
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
Many thanks, Dan.

Re: Aldersot match thread
strange old game this afternoon
Stanley looked good in parts with some good passing movement, thought Jimmy Ryan had a very good game pulling the strings in midfield, Proccy looked more influential and combative in the centre, Putterhill looked a little dynamo when played in to feet. Still think it got a little crowded in parts particulary down the right, The Stanley back four stepped out and played a higher line than usual which was effective and some immense challenges from The Tan Man. Still think we need another Striker just to add a bit of depth to the attacking options But overall pleased with a point to get us off the mark:) |
Re: Aldersot match thread
A bit disappointed today. Can't see where all the goals are coming from with the starting line up today definately need a striker. Its gonna be a long season. Best player by far on the pitch today Jimmy Ryan. Back to his old self and played with passion. Followed closely by Phil Edwards.
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
IMHO an honest days work for the lads. I strongly believe that when they gel in a couple of games, we have the makings of a good team. Yes we need more firepower up front, but for the first game of the season I thought we did pretty well.
Must thank Luke Joyce for saying helllo to young Emily as he warmed up....it made her day :) |
Re: Aldersot match thread
Very happy. Some of our attacking play from midfield was nothing short of sublime. I don't think we should be too upset about not getting three points (despite dominating the game) as the first game is always an odd one. We picked up a solid point against a decent side and ought to be happy with it.
Hessey got caught out for his lack of pace a couple of times but thankfully Edwards was on top form. Hopefully this goalie coach can sort out that horrendous kicking from Dunbavin. Rory Boulding carries himself well as a centre forward (and was almost Symes-esque at times) but I do think we need a bigger force up there, trouble is them big strikers who can hold the ball up, move it and take their chances are hard to come by for a club like ours! Jimmy Ryan and Razor Putterill will be a handful for every single side in this league. Of course we can't really judge anything from the first game, it will take at least a few weeks to see what sort of potential we have. But right now it all looks very promising. Well done to you Ultras. Looked fantastic, sounded fantastic, knocked them Shots' socks off. |
Re: Aldersot match thread
I think we can safely say that Boulding is pants. He stayed onside once today. I think Stanley St are after a new striker...
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
promising start i thought, some good passing movement, like others say a striker badly needed, can only get better when they get used to each other, apart from 1 good save from dunbavin Aldershot never looked like getting owt.:)

Did anybody hear any half-time scores today ? or was i not listening properly as the speakers were not working where i was sat .
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
We played Aldershot off the park. (56% possession) Our midfield dominated, Jimmy was awesome, proccy was influential and Barnett and Putteril were equally as good. The full backs were solid and good going forward.
Im optimistic, Aldershot are a good side they've flirted with play-offs for the last 2/3seasons. We just need someone to bang in the goals. ONWARDS AND UPWARDS. |

Solid performance unlucky not to win. v impressed with Barnett, did the little things well. Jimmy Ryan could well be the difference between mid table and play offs this year!

Who the hell do you expect Stanley to sign with the resources ??? Rooney ??? Ronaldo ??? Drogba ??? Torres???? Get a grip sunbeam; and back the lads instead of slating them. One game and you're not happy ????? The lad did quite well. He held the ball up quite well and didn't get many chances to impress. To me, he didn't get the chance to impress, mainly down to the fact we didn't have too much width ( probably down to the formation) as the one focal point, he didn't get an awful lot of service and what he did, he did quite well. I don't think the big man would have gambled on giving Boulding a contract IF he didn't think the lad was up to the job. Of the new signings, I think I've already stated that Boulding (in time and given the proper service) will be a good signing, Hessey seemed to read the game reasonably well. Bateson had a solid debut, Barnett shows promise. Puterill, was to me, candidate for M.O.M. and all told, I'm quite confident that we won't fulfill the bookies prediction of " RELIGATION CONTENDERS" Coley's priority has to be signing a couple of forwards. I'd admit, we looked a little toothless up front at times, midfield was solid ( though with five there you'd expect it!!!! ) and defence was, in the whole, reasonably solid. Mid table (which I'd be happy with) is quite achievable. A couple of forwards and a bit of cover at centre half may push us on to better things !!! |

I agree with the rest of your comments though. Puterill should have got man of the match. |
Re: Aldersot match thread
fer my money all the new lads did ok, just give em time, add a striker n seasons looking promising.IMHO.:)
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
Well I thought it was a good start to the season.
Not sure what their manager was going on about with regards the pitch, yes it cut up abit but i thought it looked great. As for the new signings, the right back (Bateson was it), looked the stand out player for me. In fact I think all the back 4 had a good game, with Edwards yet again being very good. Bavs yet again gave me nightmares, and his kicking was ALL over the place, but ill give him credit, he didnt have alot to do, but made a crucial save when he needed to. Jimmy Ryan for me MOM again, how we have hung onto him is beyond me, but as somebody has already said he IS the difference between struggling and a solid mid table finish. Only thing that concerns me is up front, we are desperately short, especially with Linfield having a knock. Fingers crossed a couple of loans will do the trick. Maybe David Hoilett from Rovers will be available or Alex Macdonald from Burnley could be an option??? All in all, very pleased with yesterday, roll on the next 1! |
Re: Aldersot match thread
I thought it was an ok display. There were five debutants so we're kind of not knowing what we're goin to get. Sometimes it looked a little disjointed but there were also some quite encouraging displays of passing that were pleasing to watch.
Defence, today looked adequate. Hessey has experience but lacks pace, fortunately he has Edwards alongside. Bateman looked a bit uncertain at times but looks good enough to 'grow' into right back if he gets picked. I would have probably picked Ryan as MOM but Winnard got it and why not ?. He deserves some credit. Always gives 100% Midfield looks interesting this year. I know we had five in there yesterday so it makes it look strong but the new guys Putterill and Barnett looked really exciting. Barnett has so much confidence that he can just hold the ball and pick his best option before passing the ball off. Putterill also made some great cross field passes and he should get better as he gets fitter. This, more than anything, shows how Stanley have progressed over the last couple of years (I'm talking strictly onfield stuff here, people, not admin!). When you think that a couple of years ago we had players like Harris and Mannix who just could not put their foot on the ball! Up top, I don't think Boulding can be criticised after one game. I thought he did ok as an out and out lone striker (McConville seemed to have licence to roam) and showed one or two decent touches and layoffs. In the second half, he had the composure to hold the ball up in pen area (the one time he wasn't flagged offside!) and lay off to Putterill who fluffed his shot so I think he's got the mindset for it . He may be one of those players that just needs a decent run in a team to show his all round game like Symes last year. McConville really needs to step up to the plate this season. I hope he does but on today's evidence I have to say he looks the same old same old. Wonder if Turner will get the same opps now that Miles has departed? Hmmm. Overall , though, I'm quite chuffed after yesterday's game. I think we still need a bigger threat upfront if we can get a loan or something but Shots got to playoffs last season and have strengthened so after losing all our strikers, I think we did ok |
Re: Aldersot match thread
I thought it was a positive display today, good movement and we had at least 3 really good efforts, if one had gone in we would have the 3 points. The new lads did well, Bateson attacked well, Hessey looked composed & the new midfield looked creative. That matched with solid games by Jimmy, Phil gives me hope for the season. I think Coley's made some good signings, he's amazing with the limited funds he has! So, when the lads have more time to gel & Craig L gets back, I'm optimistic!
|
Re: Aldersot match thread
Lots of positives to take out of yesterday's game despite the pitch.
The back four looked very solid with Proccy (who did a good job on Morgan with their aerial balls) and Barnett in front of them. The fact that Aldershot had only four shots (just one on target) in the whole match - Sporting Life - Football Live - shows how solid the team was defensively. The three attacking midfielders looked good and had the pitch not been no soft and lifeless, we could have seen a lot more fast, moving Stanley play. As it was, it was difficult to get going on it and the match ground to a stalemate at times. Two issues for me. Even though Dunbavin impressed in the one time he was called into action when Phil inexplicably stopped when ahead of Morgan in the penalty area, his kicking was more reminiscent of a fly-half kicking for touch. The other was the amount of balls played to Boulding in the air, particularly in the first half. He won lots of flick-ons, but there was no-one to flick on to! Admittedly the pitch lent itself to the long ball - and that's all the Aldershot offered - but Boulding needed better service. He did look a little light-weight against two big central defenders and he could certainly work on that department, but he did take his 'offside' goal well and linked up well with the midfielders in the second half. On yesterday's performance and that of the pre-season friendlies, I can't see anything to suggest that we will be struggling near the foot of the league table this year. |

Re: Aldersot match thread
Very encouraging performance in my view. Aldershot will be knocking on the door of the play offs again and Stanley for the majority of the game were on top. Extremely encouraged by all the debutants, although a bit worried that Boulding seems to be picking up niggling injuries on a regular basis already.
A good solid display though and a point with a clean sheet is a great starting point for the season. Some tough games coming up but i feel defensively we can cope, just hope we have enough fire power to build on the strength of the defence. |
