was Roberts the keeper that was winding us up at home last season

Re: Todays Match

Hahhaahhhahahahah thats so funny about Barra :D Really has made my day! I was skint too plus a couple of other things meant I couldnt make it today - gutted absolutely gutted.
Wot a big result today - apparently Smithy had a stormer of a game and Gerrard kicked ass too but after a 5-0 away win, they all did effin brilliantly.

EE AYE EE AYE EE AYE OH!
UP THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE WE GO
WHEN WE WIN PROMOTION
THIS IS WHAT WE'LL SING
WE ARE STANLEY WE ARE STANLEY
COLEY IS OUR KING

And yes Roberts is probably the same keeper - he has a bit of a reputation for winding up fans...

Perhaps today is an indication of how going full time has made a difference?? I sincerely hope that result today for us benefits the club in the best possible way - a shed load on at the next home game - if that result doesnt lift a few eyebrows I dont know what will - mind you, we arent up against the best supported numbers wise next - Horwich - Im sorry I know they held the Shots today but its gonna be a slaughter next weekend :D

At my nephews wedding today. The grooms father was keeping us updated with local results. 1:0 at half time I could believe, but 5:0, I had to wait for confirmation on the radio before realising it was`nt a wind up. Well done the lads for coming back after last weeks strangly sterile display.

Re: Todays Match

team : JK, Cav, Smith, Gerrard, Howson, Jag, McE, Craney, Rory, Mullers, Ged - subs : Alcock, James, Banim, Howarth (on for Cav), Cook ( on to save Rory being lynched).

Oh yeah, we have a defence - superb perfomance & total control. Particularly impressed with Smith and Gerrard considering 1st game. Eh, but what about the Rory incident. Out of respect to my aging knees I watch from the seats these days and so was sideways on when Rory was put through and went sprawing in the area. Daggers player obscured my view as to whether it were a dive or penalty. Rory got up and appealed - ref weren't having any so Rory chucks himself down and rolls about, Didn't see anyone within arms reach and thought the lad was having a temper tantrum. Daggers fans start screaming 'cheat' and their goalie walks over and gestures to Rory to get up, offering some advice at the same time. Rory jumps up (again) and although back to me his body language suggests he had some words of advice for their keeper. Silly bloke then appears to push Rory by the face and Rory obliges with another dying swan collapse. Red card and (although 'off the ball') penalty - 3-0 and Coley diplomatically subs Rory. Be interested to see what lads / Lasses behind the goal thought of the incident. Don't want to pour cold water on a great display - but we can be straight with one another on here can't we - if there was nothing more to what I saw then it leaves a sour taste. Having said that we were well in control and didn't need the pen or sending off to win hansome. Suspect we lost some friends at Dagenham over the incident though.

Fantastic performance from all the lads! Congratulations to them and, of course, the management team. Wonderful to see Stanley so high in the league vertigo might become a problem. I hope all those who doubted that Smithy could play at Conference level (and you know who you are) will now honestly hold their hands up and admit they just might have got that wrong. The lad's a gem! Barrow1, Redditch 6 - don't you almost feel sorry for the `Mighty Ones`.....Well, maybe not!

Of course we know who we are.. You make it sound like we are lepers are something.. The day it is wrong to hold an opinion on this forum is the day I stop posting.. So lets not have a pop at people for having an opinion that differs with yours eh.

Smithy had a great game and looked ten times the player he did last season.. He did what I hoped he would.. what we all hoped he would when I said I hope he has a great game for us. It looks like the Barrow stint has done him the world of good and he looked more confident and sure of himself.. He also got a great reception from the crowd which he aknowledgd but looked a little embarresed in the clubhouse after the game when a chorus of we hate barrow went up :)

Re: Todays Match

Great result and although we were lucky with some of the goals it sounds and looks like we fully deserved the 5 goal winning margin. Looking forward to plenty of games that I can attend in the next 4 weeks - Leigh, Northwich, Gravesend, Tamworth and Hereford.

I was very impressed with the interview with their manager, John Still. He was very magmanimous in defeat when it would have been easy to complain about 2 penalties and a sending-off. Is it the same John Still that took Coventry to FA Cup victory in 1987 or am I barking up the wrong tree?

How did Gerrard play?

Great to see Smithy doing well and coming back with the right attitude, plus a performance to match. Nobody wants to see him fail and nobody wants Stanley to fail just to prove a few people wrong, so your comments seem not only inappropriate, but possibly premature as well.

As Kipax said, the stint at Barrow looks to have boosted the lad. Long may it continue.

qualtrough 12-09-2004 10:05

Re: Todays Match

No one, Kipax, is suggesting that to hold and state an opinion on here is wrong. If it was I'd never post again for one! However, when circumstances and events later on indicate that a previous opinion was perhaps wrongly held surely that can be admitted without a sense of grievance or references to "lepers" ? All our opinions are right to be voiced and time inevitably shows them to have been right or wrong.

qualtrough 12-09-2004 10:15

Re: Todays Match

Eg: It was my opinion that Stanley would draw 3-3 at the Daggers. My opinion was crap as events subsequently proved. I hereby acknowledge that my opinion on this subject was totally wrong and stank!

Uncle Mick you missed a real treat :) He was up to his old trick's again giving us abuse and even giving us the Wa**er wave:s_fmad: Got me boiling again like last year.. 5 mins later Rory got him sen't off :)... And to see Evil pointing to the tunnel and waving him goodbye was Fantastic to say the least.. And the boys singing "time to go" That just topped a perfect day, in every way :)

Uncle Mick 12-09-2004 22:38

Thanks for that simon, It makes it even better. I usually have a bit of sympathy for the opposing keeper, having to put up with all the stick but Roberts was an absolute prat. Still you reap what you sow. Better check Kipax`s site to see if he got any good shots!!

Ceejache 13-09-2004 08:48

Re: Todays Match

I too feel a bit sorry for the opposing 'keepers but why dont they understand that if they take it with a laugh and a smile then it aint half as bad, but some take it personally and start biting back which just makes it worse.

KIPAX 13-09-2004 09:07

Re: Todays Match

If they do take it with a smile as part of the game then they usualy (nearly always) get a round of applause and a few handshakes and half hearted apologies for the ribbing from the stanley fans at the end of the game no matter what the result..

JEFF 13-09-2004 09:34

Re: Todays Match

You are judging Smithy on that one performance against a team that were completey rubbish and did not look Conference level, the defence did not have a lot to do but what they had to do they did well. Dagenham played a lot of long high balls which Smithy can deal with all day, it's when the ball is on the ground that he struggles. I will rest judgement until we have been up against a team with decent strikers. Anyway it cost me another tenner.

I'm not a big fan of these 'footy-mad' sites to be honest. So many of them just seem to contain stuff stolen from other places, as is the case with the Dagenham comments page.

I noticed the other day that the Crawley footy-mad page had a match report from their game with us. It's basically a paraphrase of the match report I wrote for the official site, but it's being passed off as an original piece.

I've found the same thing with Pyramid Football as well. There was a Stevenage report that I found there that was identical to the one on the Boro's own site. They even credited different authors!

On the other hand, the Pyramid Football report of the Dagenham match that I've linked to on the Official Stanley site report page seems to be original, although it's got a distinctly Daggers bias. Perhaps there's a site with a Dagenham report somewhere that I haven't found; unusually for a Conference side, I haven't been able to find a local newspaper site with reports on Daggers' games. When I've time I'll check out the Pyramid site to see where they're getting their Accy home reports from!
