Prediction League – Game 23; v Rotherham (away)

We wuzz robbed at our place back on the 16th October; one up in 9 (Parkinson), they equalise with a penalty that also lost us Kevin Long after 17 minutes of his debut; we go back ahead just after the interval (Jimmy Ryan 48), and they sneak two in the last 10 minutes – Exodus Geohaghan (who’s now back at his parent club (Posh) after injury) and Ryan Cresswell 2 mins into added time; Gillingham Revisited it wasn’t!

The week before Christmas they signed Chris Arthur (ex QPR) – a winger – on a short term contract; Danny Coid has extended his loan period from Blackpool until mid-January; Ryan Cresswell suffered a broken collar bone on the 11th December during the game with Aldershot and could be out for a few weeks, according to Millers’ Manager Ronnie Moore.

Since the win chez nous, Adam le Fallover (the foul – if foul it was – took place outside the box, according to the fishy match report) has cemented his place as the leading goal scorer in League 2 (now with 17 to his name); skipper / defender Ryan Cresswell is their next highest scorer with 5; they’ve scored 6 once, 4 once and 3 three times this season, and failed to score 6 times (including twice against Blue Square side York in the FA Cup second round, losing the replay 3-0 at Bootham Crescent and thus missing out on a 3rd Round tie at Bolton). Overall they’ve hit 38 goals in 25 games in all competitions so far, with 36 conceded (including 8 clean sheets); their last 10 games (since the win at Fortress Crown) have resulted in 3 wins, 3 draws and 4 defeats (scored 12, conceded 17).

We do owe them, you may think; don’t forget the opening game of 2009/10, where they took all three points at the Don Valley with an 89th minute winner, as well as the 3-2 overtime win two months back. Is this the week? If the game gets played – if we ever see live football again – will we get our revenge? It was one win apiece last season – so; can we? Will we?

The deadline for entries is, as ever, scheduled kick-off time, which is 3.00pm on Tuesday 28th December. I confidently predict it won’t finish 24 – 7 (Val!):D:D; or 6 – 2 (Wynonie):D:D; or 3-2 (Dave/Chimer) :D:D ……. Or will it? Get your guesses down NOW! Don’t wait for the Queen’s Speech, the Turkey or “These You Have Seen Before Loads Of Times” on the tele ; get guessing!

Good luck to everyone; Happy Christmas from me and my mate Chimer :) …….. and thanks for playing!

:alright:

As you say, we owe them - 2-1 to Stanley with and equally late winner so that there can be no comebacks.

Prediction League – Rearranged Game 23; v Rotherham (away)

If they’d beaten Gillingham last night, instead of losing 3-1 to two goals from on-loan Cody McDonald and one from Dennis Oli, Rotherham would still have been in the automatic places; as it was, their defeat, and Shrewsbury ending Lincoln’s good run with a 5-1 trashing at Sincil Bank (all 6 goals coming in the first 35 minutes) dropped them to 4th, with 47 points from 29, against the Shrews’ 48 from 30.

Since this game was postponed from 28th December, we’ve played 7, winning 3, drawing 3 and losing just once (to Shrewsbury, who must be the form team of the moment); the Millers have played 10, beating Port Vale (in their bad patch after Micky Adams left for the Blades) 5-0, Stockport 4-0 and Crewe 3-1, all at home, as well as winning 2-0 at Macc and drawing 3-3 at Stockport (who were 3-1 up with 6 minutes left); the good news from our point of view is that they’ve actually lost 5 of their last 7; apart from the Stockport and Crewe wins, since the 15th January they’ve lost 2-1 at home to Southend, and 1-0 at Wycombe, 3-0 at Stevenage, 1-0 in the return at Port Vale, and 3-1 last night to Gillingham (I’ve just forgotten for the minute how we did against Gillingham; can anyone remember? :)); 13 points from 10 games; we’ve got 12 from 7 ……….;)

They were quiet in the transfer window, just loaning out-of-favour defender Stephen Brogan to Stalybridge, and signing manager Ronnie Moore’s 34 year old striker son Ian Thomas-Moore from Tranmere (the second time he’s played for his dad – nepotism rules OK! :D); he’s played 3 times so far, and hasn’t scored yet. Speaking of “hasn’t scored”, fans’ favourite (:p) Adam le Fallover has got as many yellow cards as goals in the last 10 games – 2 of each – although he remains the leading goal-scorer in League 2 with 19 in all (18 in the League).

57 goals in a total of 35 games; only 9 in their last 7 games though, which includes a four (home to Stockport), a three (home to Crewe), one twice and no goals three times ………… Leading scorers are le Fallover, home-grown strike partner Ryan Taylor with 8, ex-Bury defender Ryan Cresswell (who stuck the winner in at our place in time added on, you’ll recall ) with 5, and ex Chester, Tranmere, Hull, Lincoln, Stockport, Leicester (one game as sub) and Altrincham midfielder Kevin Ellison with 4; 11 others feature on the score sheet with 3, 2 or 1 each ………

To be fair, at home, overall, their record is P15 W8 D5 L2 F35 A20, which – with their League position, and on the stats – makes them favourites in most peoples’ books; but we ain’t most people ……….

The deadline for entries remains scheduled kick-off time, which is 7.45pm on Tuesday 15th February. I confidently predict that – whatever the score – my mate Chimer won’t cock up the League table a second time (or will he?); time for a goalless draw again? Sneaky 1-0 (in the last minute – how sweet would that be!)? Battered into submission? Routed? Vindicated? 7-2, just for Wynonie? (well, not just for Wynonie, but you know what I mean!) Go for it!

Good luck to everyone - and thanks for playing!

Re: Prediction League Game 23; Rotherham (away)

Striker Ryan Taylor is out for about two weeks after suffering a groin injury in Saturday's defeat by Oxford, and skipper Ryan Cresswell - who broke a collar bone in December - has now damaged his ankle ligaments during training.

No-one wishes injuries on players, but these two are two of their leading goalscorers (Cresswell got one at our place in the earlier game this season), so their absence helps us and may hinder them ...........
