Transfer Window

Now the January window's open will Coley be doing any business?

I suppose we have a big squad in terms of personnel although three of them are loan players to us in terms of Craney, Jacobson & Long (who I think is at the maximum three month mark?)

Should we & do we need to strengthen?

If so what positions and what players should we be looking at?

We need to slim the squad down, as we are forking out too much for players that do not figure - where is Bateson????

We require some fire power!!!!

We could do with another striker with a bit of height. But having said that I suppose its a bit of balancing act. What we do have is strikers that are quick over the ground, which is what you want. But a striker who has pace and also good in the air would be ideal.

Was sat with Parkinson yesterday watching the game from the stand. Neither looking particarly happy with the situation either. I expect all the loanees to go back. The club just can't afford to pay for them with not having a home match for the best part of 6 weeks.

Tally's with what Coley was saying in the Observer;

Quote:

The weather could mean that Ian Craney, Kevin Long and Joe Jacobson may not be able to extend their loan spells at Accrington Stanley.
The postponements of the last three home games has cost the Reds around £50,000 and boss John Coleman admits this could affect his squad.
Craney, on loan from Fleetwood, and Jacobson, from Oldham, are on loan at the Crown Ground until Monday (January 3) while Burnley defender Long signed until January 11.
"It really depends on finances," said Coleman. "The club are probably not in too healthy a position at the moment due to the recent games being off so it’s a case of watch this space."

Why not Mab;)

Dosn't seem to figure too much for the Shakers these days?

Has a great pedigree at this level and sometimes a change of scenery can sometimes kick start player's careers:)

I would think budgets will be tight as above and in all honesty my thoughts are they have got to better than we already have but....

Coley has a decent record of uncovering gems and sometimes you have to take a punt to find them.

I think one thing most of us do agree on is we are lightweight in the Striking department and there are players/kids out there who would jump at the chance of having a go at taking a step up to Football League football.

I have mentioned a few times the young lad at Burnley Alex MacDonald everytime I have seen him play for the Clarets Reserves he always impresses me, there are probably many others it's just finding them and moulding them.

Then you just never know where we can go.....

End of thread then I guess...

Or maybe we sign players who Clubs will pay their wages to give them first team experience or does football not work like that?

Whilst not defending the current regime at the club,we have to assume that they will back Coley and Jimmy in the transfer window.

we probably couldn`t afford the loan players we have now either, but they`re due back at their parent clubs so it`s either use what we already have or use the loan market a little more.we`ll have trust in Coley. we certainly need a good strike partner for Gornell. He`s playing well but needs some help up there.we`ll have to struggle through and be positive like a lot of other clubs in this league.

I wish Coley would give Boulding a decent run alongside Gornell. He's scored lots of goals and could be the answer to our big problem. It won't worry me one little bit if Craney and Jacobsen have to go back to their clubs, but Long is a another matter entirely.:(

Boulding is not the answer, i thinks your getting mixed up with his brother, rory has scored one league goal.

No I'm not getting mixed up. Rory has been a prolific scorer in his previous club's reserves but has not had the chance to show what he can do at first team level. It's time for him to get the chance that Symes took with both hands. Similar scenario - he was rubbished on here as being no good before he actually made the breakthrough.:D

Re: Transfer Window

Not quite sure 100% but I think maximum loan period is three months on a month by month basis, which may rule Kevin Long out unless there is still an option to turn it into a season long deal?

What I remember of Craig first time round on loan was he worked well off a target man, as a lone striker I am not sure.

As DD has mentioned Rory's record is as said one goal

Terry is obviously the main striker at the moment and as proved once again at the Globe he is always willing to chase the ball down and links in well with the midfield, the problem with a lone furrow up front is you don't always get the credit & goals that your play deserves.

I may be wrong on this but looking at the Top seven in League Two would suggest that they all play with two up front?
