Chesterfield Thread
Howdy all
Stanley are unchanged at a chilly Crown this aft. Dunbavin, Winnard, Long, Edwards, Jacobson, Barnett, Procter, Ryan, Craney, McConville, Gornell Subs are the same as at Morecambe too - Cisak, Hessey, Putterill, Richardson, Joyce, Murphy, Boulding I'll do my best to keep you up to date Dan |
Re: Chesterfield Thread
As far as the visitors are concerned there's good news and bad news - their top scorer Craig Davies is out injured, but Jack Lester (who scored a hat-trick on Sat) starts.

Re: Chesterfield Thread
Hi Dave
nice to have a bit of company! |
Re: Chesterfield Thread
Could be a busy afternoon in League 2. 6 goals in 6 minutes so far :)
|
Re: Chesterfield Thread
9: GOALLLLLLLL!
Stanley counter, Craney finds McConville in the box and he side foots his shot - keeper gets a toch but it bobbles in. 1-0 |
Re: Chesterfield Thread
Great Start
|
Re: Chesterfield Thread
Standards, that's what's wanted now lets have a couple more ! :D
|
Re: Chesterfield Thread
It was far from a vintage goal - by my reckoning Tommy Lee saved it and it bounced off Sean and squirmed in. Haven't seen a replay mind, and don't really care!
Stanley enjoying some good possession since the goal |
Re: Chesterfield Thread
what do Stanley think they're doing ? - I forcast 0 - 3 (lol).
will gladly take one for the team by wearing the silly hat this aft - c'mon u reds ! |
Re: Chesterfield Thread
Tails are up LLS ! Let em get on with it I say ! :D
|
Re: Chesterfield Thread
23: 2-0 Stanley
Craney robs Mattis on the right, bursts away and crossed for Gornell, who drills it into the left corner. Ole! |
Re: Chesterfield Thread
Go on the Lads !!!!!! :D 2-0 Stanley
|

Dan, I see Charlie is credited with assists for both goals. What kind of game is he having?
It's good to get regular updates on TV on 301. Presumably on Radio 5 as well. |
Re: Chesterfield Thread
34: Edwards denied a third goal
Defender rises highest to meet McConville's corner, but Lee pushes it behind for a corner |
Re: Chesterfield Thread
I take it the boys are controlling the game Dan ? :)
I can't quite get over this 2-0 up going into half time, excellent ! Sitting at 14th |
Re: Chesterfield Thread
String of Stanley chances to tell you about:
Lee has made a good save from a Ryan free kick and Craney has put two decent chances wide. Only one side looks top of the league here. And it isn't Chesterfield... |
Re: Chesterfield Thread
Two minutes of time added.
Can we just not have the break? |
Re: Chesterfield Thread
That is half time.
Superb so far |
Re: Chesterfield Thread
In a nutshell friends, I'm stunned.
That's one of the best 45 minutes I've seen down here for quite a while. I must also make clear that the view from Chesterfield is also stunned... They've been as crap as Stanley have been great. The spine of the team looks excellent: Edwards, Barnett, Craney and Gornell key men and McConville and Ryan have been lively too. Surely it can't be this routine for the next 45 minutes? |

Here we go again...
|
Re: Chesterfield Thread
No changes for either side, but Chesterfield have started well
|
Re: Chesterfield Thread
2 Q's Dan - which way we kicking 2nd half & what's attendance looking like ?
|
Re: Chesterfield Thread
1) Left to right, kicking towards the visiting fans in the Coppice
2) hard to tell - plenty of aforementioned visitors. I'll guess at 1600. |
Re: Chesterfield Thread
Few openings in the first ten minutes of the second half.
Stanley just have to guard against dropping too deep |
Re: Chesterfield Thread
One hour gone...
Chesterfield making a change - bit of a reshuffle. Little to report as yet. So far, so good! |
Re: Chesterfield Thread
Holding up well ? Or are they getting edgy ?
|
Re: Chesterfield Thread
15 minutes to go.
Worryingly serene so far! |
Re: Chesterfield Thread
Not a good day for the Sheridan family, one losing and younger brother sent off for Barrow :)
|
Re: Chesterfield Thread
77: Jacobson forces a routine save from Lee with a free kick
Lester's going off for Chesterfield |

McConville off, Putterill on
|
Re: Chesterfield Thread
Cock
2-1 now. Long ball into the box, Dean Smalley tapped it in with everyone else stopped. Crazy. A minute plus stoppage time |
Re: Chesterfield Thread
Damn ! clawed one back, I was just about to suggest that should be it ! :(
Still it's what I guessed :D so a bit of a silver lining. We're still 13th though. |

Thanks for that Dan.
|
Re: Chesterfield Thread
wife's just sent me off for foul & abusive ! - what r the spirites singing back to the ultras now Dan ?
|
Re: Chesterfield Thread
Thanks, Dan.
|
Re: Chesterfield Thread
Its not robbery tho dan. Its unforgivable and happens far too often to be hard luck. The players are professionals. I hope they get a complete dressing down cos for me that last ten minutes is worse for morale than if we had lost both games this year. Shocking
|
Re: Chesterfield Thread
I must apologise to Mick Schultz for the large pile of vomit that I left in front of my seat at the end of the game, but that result was sickening to say the least.
Our football today was fantastic. Chesterfield didn't play that badly, they were just outplayed from front to back, start to (almost) finish. Indeed hideous individual errors were again to blame for losing out on our rightful win, but Coley must shoulder some of the blame. He knows what we're like, why on earth didn't he bring on Murphy, Richardson or even Joyce to keep things tight? Infuriating. |
Re: Chesterfield Thread
We outplayed top of the league for 90 minutes, played some brilliant football. Mistake for the first goal but up until then they didn't put a foot wrong. Keep up like that and we're going to Wembley.

Gutted for the team. Every one of em played their socks off today and gave the top team a football lesson. Edwards and Long especially did not deserve that after seeing off Lester and then losing two goals so late. Same again against Bury please !

Re: Chesterfield Thread
have to agree with reddraine, fantastic performance, full of comittment and desire, but realistic would acci have settled for 4 points from the last 2 games?,i think so, no team and i mean no team in this league can out football Acci, its just the physical and ariel defending that sometimes causes us a problem,Its something they have to work out on the training ground, but comes really with experience ( and physical size !!! )

Re: Chesterfield Thread
Gutted , absolutely gutted. Feels like a loss :(
HOWEVER, if we play like we did for the 1st 45 mins for the rest of the season we could easily mount a playoff push. Yes Spirites where sluggush to start but make no mistake, we literally played the best team off the park for 45 mins + of the game and thats no easy thing to do. As for Long & Edwards, they were magnificent and did not deserve that. Bring on the shakers I say ! |
Re: Chesterfield Thread
To be honest I would have taken a point before the match, but we gave them a football lesson in the first half and if our chances had gone in we could easily have been 4 up at half time, as for the penalty god knows what went on there as the ref pointed straight to the spot then seemed to change his mind I think it was something to do with the liner on the cowshed side.
Yet again we were the masters of our own downfall it was obvious to a blind man they would come at us in the second half and for the first 15 minutes they had a lot of the ball but produced nothing really and the reds started to play the passing game as they had in the first half but we were playing to deep in my opinion. Thought Long and Edwards were excellent today, Barnett also played well and Craney tormented their defence and was unlucky not to score. As for substitutions to little to late for me considering the lack of competitive football played over the last month, McConville should have gone off 20 minutes before he did and Richardson,Hessey or Joyce should have come on to bolster the defence. |

Did you see the game RR ? I felt some of the football played by Stanley was outstanding and in that context would like to see a similar performance against Bury :) |
Re: Chesterfield Thread
This is a funny one as we left a few minutes before the end as we had to be somewhere
At that point I was euphoric as we had given a huge footballing lesson to the side currently sitting top of the League. By the time we reached the car the Spireites had pulled one back & by the time we were on the M65 they had equalised. As Smudgie said Gutted is perhaps not a strong enough word for the feeling driving back after that. Positives super passing and flowing movement in the first half with really controlled stuff pushing & probing all the time and in fairness we could have been 4-0 up. Humble pie time for me:o I think Craney was superb for the first forty five minutes pivotal in everything that was good with that first half performance. Which was as good as I have seen this season. At half-time there was a feeling between us that a third was neccessary to put the game to bed and to expect a Spireite onslaught particulary the first 15-20 minutes of the second half but it did not really come. I felt for Jacobson as after he was booked as he was walking a tightrope in terms of perhaps challenges and maybe the change should have come then with going five at the back and taking off a midfielder? But as I did not see the two goals we conceded hard for me to pick holes in what was an otherwise superb team performance. Glad the flags were back, strange atmosphere at times as you could feel the tension in the crowd particulary second half. Daft as it may seem overall I think there were more positives to take from today's display than there was from the game at Morecambe on Saturday. But that's football it's all about opinions:) |
Re: Chesterfield Thread
Fantastic first half performance especially Edwards and Long (we must try to keep him), Thought Joyce would have been a better sub at 2 - 0 up to keep possesion as there were tired legs out there. Gutted at result but would have taken a point before game.Still feel 2 points lost not one gained IMHO.
|
Re: Chesterfield Thread
:( still can't believe we lost a 2 goal lead to a lack lust top of the league team, out played and going nowhere and finishes 2-2:(
|
Re: Chesterfield Thread
we did it again 10 mins left . should have put the over subs on to break the time up. we never do

I'm not advocating giving two points away against Bury. That's being pedantic. I'm also sure that most of us would have said before the game that if we could get three points regardless of the performance we'd take it. However, given the performance, which on merit deserved a win , I'm proud of the way Stanley played today and if they continued to play like that , I'm convinced they'd win more games than they would lose and attract (eventually - because of a growing reputation for playing attractive passing football) better crowds to the Crown. Dreamer you may say , RR, not Reamer. It really does feel like we lost the game today though, because we played that well and I'll be interested to read Coley's take on it, but I'll take a repeat performance against Bury with , of course, a win. |

Re: Chesterfield Thread
After reading John Colemans summary of events on the fishy site, I have a hell of a lot of sympathy for him. OK the defence went walkabout for the first Chesterfield goal, but the officials went to sleep for the second or were just plain ball watching. The scorer was a country mile offside when he got the ball. To outplay the league leaders for so long was thrilling to watch, just a shame the ref got caught up in the atmosphere by denying Stanley a blatant penalty and refusing to chalk off the 2nd Spireites goal and giving free kicks for innocuous challenges against Stanley but allowing Chesterfield to get away with the same sort of challenge. Am I downhearted, a little bit, but 4 points from 2 games in three days isn't too bad. If we continue in the same vein against Bury on Saturday, we'll murder them.

Just a small stat on todays game:- Both of the C/Field scores came off the bench!!!! A lesson to be learned in there somewhere???  ;)

Re: Chesterfield Thread
:) The one positive thing IMHO to come out of todays game is that it showed that we can match and better the league leaders!! Which in its self is an achivement in its self, just need to keep going for the full 90+ mins:)

Re: Chesterfield Thread
As well as the Ultras singing "You might as well go home" being a jinx, has anybody else noticed that when DaveinGermany puts our improved league position up on the messageboard we seem to capitulate, We've all got Skysports too. Sorry Dave, but stop it:p:p:p.

Me and the missus went, but we left with 5 minutes to go. Checked the score when we got home and it was 2-2. Shame :( Enjoyed the game. Have done both times I've been to watch Accy. Don't get to go too much as I'm usually working or Rovers are playing. Going to look out for more though as it's a good laugh and the tackles players get away with is good to see. |
