Ten cup finals / final points tally
Ten games to go.....six at home and four away... 30 points to play for. 53 points on board now.....how many points do folk think we'll need for the play-offs??? How many points (dare I even mention) for the Automatics???
To Play My Prediction Aldershot (a) Draw Hereford (H) Win Northampton (H) Win Southend (H) Draw Macclesfield (a) Draw Oxford (H) Win Bradford (H) Draw Shrewsbury (a) Lose Barnet (H) Win Burton (a) Win If results go the way I think they would, that would give us another 19 points, 72 in total and hopefully enough for a place in the play offs !!!:D Your considered thoughts please ladies and gentlemen !!! |
Re: Ten cup finals / final points tally
Can of worms now open lol.
My prediction will follow after a nights sleep! |
Re: Ten cup finals / final points tally
Sort of brings it home when you see the fixtures laid out as you have done there Carpon
The destiny is in our own our hands at the moment I think it may be tighter than it has been in previous years for the play-offs alone and I would think maybe the 73 point mark might just squeeze that. Starting Saturday is the critical stage with five games in thirteen days twelve points from fifteen points will do nicely:) |
Re: Ten cup finals / final points tally
Although the team are playing some fantastic football and without any fear,I still think its a bridge to far.
Injury and suspension wise they have had a good run,but playing so many mid-week games will take its toll. I would have thought keeping the nucleaus of the team together, add a few new faces next year, sort the off field problems out and have a right go next season. Then again, what this team has acheived on the field, and the way they have gone about it,despite all the problems, nothing will suprise me. As one crewe fan said ,Acci are the leagues "outstanding" team this season. |
Re: Ten cup finals / final points tally
Two facts emerge from those fixtures:
When we've been playing more away games than home and we've been playing the top teams far more than the bottom teams, it really is testimony to how play the lads have played to get us into 10th place and with game(s) in hand on all the teams above us :) Not going to make any predictions, but just for fun there is a 'projected points' table @ Statistics - Football365 News. It doesn't take account of the majority of our remaining games being at home and against lower-placed opposition, but on their recent form projection, we would finish 4th ;) |

Re: Ten cup finals / final points tally
Speculation pure & simple, Coley, Jimmy & the lads know what the fans want & I'm pretty sure they'll do their damnedest to achieve it, whatever is to happen will, that's just fate/luck/Karma/fortune/life & we'll all live with it at the end of the day because they tried hard & kept pride alive.
Do your best Lads, plain & simple. :) |
Re: Ten cup finals / final points tally
71 points will do it I reckon this year as it has been tighter than for a longer time in the middle of the table. I think we'll miss out by the odd point unfortunately, but its FANtastic to still be realistically involved, and with unambitious ambition (if that makes sense).
I think that testament to that would be that if we are involved in the play-offs there'll be few League 2 fans wondering how on earth we got there, but likewise nobody will wonder how we didn't if we don't |
Re: Ten cup finals / final points tally
When it gets to this stage the form book goes out of the window, nerves and siege mentality kick in especially for the bottom teams.
One of those teams that could upset a few could be Barnet, most of the fixtures left for them are teams near the top, and with the re-appointment of Martin Allen yesterday the one thing they won't be short of is motivation :D |
Re: Ten cup finals / final points tally
my thoughts are win 6, draw 3, lose 1, is what stanley will do. n see where that takes em, however things pan out though its been a great season, considering everything.;)

Re: Ten cup finals / final points tally
In all honesty the sky is the limit. I have just put a decent bet on promotion. Let take ever game as a cup final.

Re: Ten cup finals / final points tally
That's the sort of talk I like to hear!! Let's put the mortgage on it!! We're going up and that's that! As Macca said on an earlier thread how often will we have the chance to get this giddy and dream of promotion? If Coley says it's possible then Old Trafford here we come!!
Seriously we'd have an almighty chance if the town could put its backside into gear and support us. 4.000 roaring us into the play-offs......or not. We've been waiting for them to turn up since the inception of Stanley Villa in 1891 :)(although granted a few more did have a cheeky gander during that golden spell in the 50's.) And stop being pessimistic. We're going to take the full 30 points ;) |
Re: Ten cup finals / final points tally
Aldershot (A) Lose
Hereford (H) Win Northampton (H) Draw Southend (H) Draw Macclesfield (A) Draw Oxford (H) Draw Bradford (H) Win Shrewsbury (A) Lose Barnet (H) Lose Burton (A) Win For me 13 points more to put with the FANtastic haul of 53 points gained so far... The lack of change/rotation, will - I believe - cost us again! When Gornell went down/off on Tuesday, all I thought of was if he is out, who will do the job that he does??? It won't take much, injury, suspension or an off day or two.. 8 new faces in this seasons squad, combined with losing close on 50 goals from 3 strikers leaving, a new style/way of playing, more clean sheets, less games lost, exciting football and most of all, a club to watch in the FL for another season, not bad for a team/club faced with relegation back in August ;) On Stanley On!!!!! |
