Re: Stevenage Game
Well Potter , I think you watched a different game to me yesterday!Stevenage do not need to keep hold of the ball , they pinched it from our toes instantly and they were away, like little greyhounds .I do hope we can turn it round on Fri , I really do, but if they urn up with same squad , then , well I dread to think. We CAN do it , but Stevenage are known for being bullies. Did you notice how Jimmy was dragged down from back of neck , also Andy was pushed over right in front of ref , what happened ? nothing, I think even the refs are afraid of em..........but I still believe.

Hopefully we can take the game to them on friday and regain some credability and it would not suprise me if we see a turn round. Whatever happens roll on next season and if that means league two football so be it, just keep the stanley bandwagon rolling along. All we have seen from stanley year on year is improvement despite the financial problems, transfer embargos and ownership issues, take the start of this season as an example relegation favorites and what was it five or six registered players the men at the top worked their magic and managed to bring in some outstanding individuals IMO. Stanley are now well established in the league and fear no-one,rivals hate to come to the crown ground,we have the loudest and proudest fans in league two and their loyalty is second to none and if we don,t manage to win this battle the war will still go on. The future is bright new man at the helm, shirt sponsership and the possibility of a new stadium. I wear the red shirt with pride wherever I go and am proud to be associated with my accrington stanley. I believe on stanley on. |

Re: Stevenage Game
No I watched the same game as you Greeny....and you're right about what happened last night - pinching the ball off us and attacking in a direct manner.
But I just think you have misunderstood what I said. My post mainly talks about what I think could happen in the second leg if we play like we can at home (keeping the ball, passing and moving and creating chances) and they play like they normally do, within the context of looking to defend a two goal lead (direct, long ball and relying on their physical front 2 and centre halves). I think if the above happens we'll win by at least 2. And I think the chances of the above description happening are pretty high! This is what I think, so we'll just have to see what happens Friday night won't we! |
Re: Stevenage Game
i thought the game was evenly balanced until the goal.
once they scored, they never looked back. they where well disciplined, extremly good at pressing us all over the pitch, forcing us wide and to play it long, which in turn played into their hands. Jacobsen was most guilty of playing aimless balls. Our ex-player Roberts request to the ref for a red card was nasty. We need to keep it on the floor, go down when given a nasty challenge instead of trying to match them, and out football them. The crowd/ultras need to be clever as well - instead of constantly singing, they need to be focusing on the ref and calling for every decision. a strong ref is essential to us going through, if we get another old-school ref who will let stevenage play dirty then we have no chance. We as the crowd have to get onto the refs every decision. We cant play any worse, they cant play any better - game on. |
Re: Stevenage Game
Ok so here is my 10 pence worth. First away game ive missed in months. Had to with work early this morning, still gutted today to be honest.
To sum it up watching it from the TV perspective, we where VERY poor. Without a doubt the poorest we have been all season for me. Dont take anything away from those morons, but they where by far the better side. Charles had a superb game, for he's size what a player he is. Sunbed and Hessey hardly won a header all game against him and for me, Long MUST play on Friday. The defence where all Very poor, even Cisak (the only Stanley player who came out of the game with some credit) was hesitant for their second goal, typical of Byrom to score, when he has hardly played all season. The Midfield????? Absolutely nowhere for the entire 90 minutes for me, Proccy should stop moaning at others and concentrate on his game for once. As for Craney???!!!!! THE poorest performance in a Stanley shirt ive seen in a LONG time. I have been a decent fan of Ian's on occasion, especially during the loan spell over xmas, he looked hungry for the cause. Its like he has the contract already for next season and really cant be bothard putting a shift in...... OR he STILL is not fit??? If he isnt then WHY play him when we have Barnett, Razor (who did more in 10 mins than Craney did in 80), and Turner who I found it incredible he wasnt on the bench. We ALL know how good he can be causing havoc, as we saw at Burton..... Even Jimmy Ryan had an absolute shocker!!! Mcconville and Gornell, BOTH very poor, whan an earth Sean was doing trying to take it round the keeper is beyond me, just smash it in, your not Messi yet mate!!! Terry was massively isolated all the game, he had 1 half a chance, which he could have taken then who knows what could have happened. We all know subs are not Coley's strongest point, but to leave it as late as he did to bring Razor on was ridiculous. It clearly wasnt working at half time never mind after 80 mins. Just looking at the bench as a whole.... Richardson, Lindfield & Murphy??? What do they bring to the bench that Turner doesnt??? Sounds like the story of Chris's season to me. :( All in All a quite unbelievably poor performance, im taking nothing away from Coley & The Lads as they have been incredible all season long, maybe it was 1 game to far, but in my opinion they BOTTLED it simple as. How we are still in the tie is beyond me, but we are... JUST. To be honest the most positive thing about the entire evening was Coleys post match interview. He knows the Crown will be rocking Friday night. An Early goal for us and anything can happen, simple. What would I change.????? Long must play for me, he's the Only man who can give Charles a physical battle at the back. Craney............ Did nothing, clearly not fit. Barnett or Razor in with Turner on the bench. |
Re: Stevenage Game
Oh and as for that clown Mark Roberts, what an idiot trying to get players sent off.
Just shows what a type of player he is. Never Good enough for the Stanley, EVER! |
Re: Stevenage Game
99% agree with all you say, except Turner to start instead of you know who!
|
Re: Stevenage Game
No chance he will start mate, his appearance at Burton was his 1st since the FA Cup away loss to Port Vale.
Im just hoping he is given a chance on the bench come Friday night. |

Re: Stevenage Game
Agree with Smudgie's comments & others - defo need Long to play, and Craney MConville not to! I still believe we can do it - another Jimmy Ryan hat trick please!

Re: Stevenage Game
You lot crack me up. Moaning about the ref and how biased he was towards Stevenage, but in 7 pages worth of comments, not one of you have mentioned the disgusting cynical hack when we were through 5 on 1 against you, and then that animal attacking our player for daring to be upset about it.
You should've been down to 9 men, and should be thankful that the ref was rubbish. Potter - do not believe what the FLS say about us being some long ball team, we've played plenty of teams off the park this season with our passing football, and you got just a taster of it on Sunday. Yes, we often clear it long when under pressure, but that is in no way 'the way we play'. And the comment about Roberts never being good enough for Stanley? Haha, him and Ashton stopped anything you (and most of the rest of League 2) had to throw at us this season, just look who had the best defensive record. You'd give your own arm to have him in your team. See you Friday, looking forward to it :-) |
Re: Stevenage Game
Id rather eat my own toilet than have that foul mouthed idiot in our side.
Thanks for assaulting a young fan of ours by the way. I reckon for the first time ever we should ban an away side's supporters from the Crown before the game, such is their disgusting attitude to us. Anybody agree? |
Re: Stevenage Game
Mark Roberts score own goals when at Stanley , two week on trot .
Andy C , if you are so good how come you didn't get automatic promotion ? |
