Super Sean, Super Sean, Super Sean McConville...!!!!!!!!!!!!
24 hrs since the game last night, so had time to reflect.
I have to say that last night was probably the best performance in a Stanley shirt for Super Mac :) Not just his superb passing - the pass before the one for Kayden's goal was even better - but his chasing down of the ball and sheer determination to win/keep possession was fantastic :) I just hope that the awful bully boy tactics will not rob us of our 'Captain fantastic' at the weekend..... :) :) :) |

Big miss for us today......

Re: Sean Mc
shame to lose an in-form wide man when playing on what's said to be a wide pitch. Perhaps Williams will get a second half run-out if game situation is appropriate.
|
Re: Sean Mc
do the Whinney Hill side plans allow for widening our pitch to suit ? - just a thought from this ex-school lad outside left.

If he “failed a fitness test” you’d think he was close to being free of injury,
I have my doubts about the Stanley physio after seeing him stretching our loanee keeper’s pulled hamstring at Morecambe though. |

'There are a few unsung heroes this season.'
I guess its no coincidence our run has coincided with the return to fitness of Conneely. |
Re: Sean Mc
I suggest our success so far has been because there is no outstanding candidate for POTS. They have all played as one solid unit.

Re: Sean Mc
Actually if you are implying central midfield hasnt been fantastic then I can't disagree.
Scotty Brown has, in the last 10-15 games, upped his game and made a difference in as much as it no longer seems a problem area anymore. |

Lowest of the low slagging off the Captain.
|
Re: Sean Mc
Without a doubt, our success is down to good performances all over the pitch. However, since the start of the new calendar year, our defence and keeper have been outstanding. Keeping clean sheets and not conceding late goals. Improved concentration and a new central defensive partnership have been the key. We've learned better game management and can now win by one goal. We couldn't do this earlier in the season.
|
Re: Sean Mc
Callum Johnson’s been a good un too. I was really sceptical of him, but he’s very reliable and I can see him being very good next year.
|
Re: Sean Mc
'Lowest of the low slagging off the Captain.'
How's it slagging the captain by saying his presence in the team has helped? I rate Coneeley and point being made was that our iffy run coincided with his injury. |
Re: Sean Mc
I’m not sure you can make a link between Conneely and our form. He’s only been back for half of our good run and he’d been missing for a few games before our run of defeats occurred.

Interesting to hear Macca's views on Stanley's pre-season training......
Pre-season ?necessary but horrible? ? Accrington Stanley :) :) :) |

at least he is honest about pre season training and not all the crap about meeting the lads again and really enjoying it.

Re: Sean Mc
It was a serious question. I've never looked at him as captain material. I don't see Sean as someone who would lead by example when the chips are down - and there will be times during this season we will really have to dig deep.
That's not a criticism by the way just don't see him as that type of player. |
Re: Sean Mc
This is also a serious question. Did you go to the games that Captain Haircut missed and the vice cap took over, my opinion was that it raised his game a good few notches.

You mean the three games in November when we won one, lost one, and drew one ? |
Re: Sean Mc
I'm with 28 on this. Sean McMarmite was a vastly improved player last season, his contribution to the team effort was fantastic, and long may it last.
But I've never thought of him as captain material, even in his "new improved formulation", except as a stand-in for Mr. Conneely. |
Re: Sean Mc
Coley must think he has some captain quality to make him V/Cap.

Re: Sean Mc
Who asked you to stick your beak in Pidge hahaha ?
Lighten up. I was being facetious. However to put you right stats man you may wish to consider who captained the side on 16th and 23rd December. Do I go to the games ........ haha ! One or two. Anyway back to topic no I don't consider Sean to be needed to be appointed as skipper. The unbelievable run had nothing to do with who wore the armband. Team effort. Did you go to Lincoln - 16 December ? You might recall Sean getting a broadside from Coley for ducking out of the physical battle and getting subbed after an hour. |

Re: Sean Mc
Not at all.
Players better than Clicker and Seamus in the team. However as a captain sometimes you have to put everything on the line. I just think with Sean he can hide at times. Seamus not blessed with awesome talent but he’ll never go hiding. |
Re: Sean Mc
It doesn't matter who is named the captain except for the coin toss.
|
Re: Sean Mc
its not the best player you have got who will make the best captain. its the player who talks the most on the pitch.

Other Clubs were chasing him - I believe - so I am glad he is still with us :) McConville signs new deal ? Accrington Stanley :) :) |

Re: Sean Mc
The point I was making is that Clark has the shirt so it will be him flying down the wing not Piero to start with.
Great competition on both wings right now. Williams and Sousa in addition to the three named. |
Re: Sean Mc
Clark and Piero are different players.
Piero is a get half a yard and get a cross in,Clarke is more direct, cuts inside more and creates more. Clark’s a defo for me,with Piero as plan B. I know Piero has a good engine, but Clarke’s probably the fittest lad ever to play for Acci (from a good source!!!) |

Played very well against Bradford and - Captain Fantastic - scores the winner against Posh!!
Said it many times before, but that armband does bring the best out of him :) Though - strangely enough - I did here people on the Clayton End bemoaning Macca last week   :) :) |

Also, don't know if relevant, but I thought McMarmite looked a little heavy-legged in the warm up and wondered if he was carrying a slight knock. He showed cool composure with the goal, though. |
