That's a Great Signing!!

Pleased as punch for the lad and as Coley says in the article he may not be the finished article but has got a hunger and desire which has shown on the pitch.

Welcome onboard Kurtis:)

welcome on board fella and how refreshing to hear his comments after the crap from mcconville etc and their mercenary attitude

Re: Guthrie signs!

Maybe this is more based on gut feeling or hunch but I have been racking my brains trying to put into words what it is with the lad and I don't want to put unwanted pressure on him but every once in a while there comes along a player who has the presence, a work ethic and something special that endears them to quickly become crowd favourites and what I have seen in two games be it pre-season has already convinced me.

Fantastic; what a season we're going to have. I was so gutted at the exodus and after such a good season; I was gutted for Coley and Jimmy and those who held true. But alas we have the best manager and assistant in Britain today. I hope the club move to recognise this team in a big, big way this year.

Welcome to all those who are joining us for the first time and a big thank you to those who stayed true. On, Stanley On! 5th last season; we've only just begun…..

I'm with you, Smudgie. Anything better than survival this season will be a great achievement for Coley and Jimmy after losing so many players, including the spine of the team. It will take some time for a new team to gel. We, the fans, will have a big part to play in encouraging the lads through thick and thin, especially young Kurtis, who is going to come in for some harsh treatment from the seasoned pro's in league2.

smudgie 16-07-2011 19:24

Re: Guthrie signs!

I agree.....

However after seeing him plant that header with Robinson, Givet etc all in close surroundings today I firmly believe he has what it takes. :)

Lot of sense being spoke on here, hes only a raw 18 year old ,having to live away from home, but there is something different about him, and I wish him all the best ,if he's got it ,coley and co will bring it out of him

Kurtis signed after today's game

Special well done to the dedicated staff who gave up their time to make it happen (you are all ASFC superstars)

Yes he's young, yes he's raw AND he'll need the FANtastic fans to wrap him up and make him feel party of our unique family. (remember he's only 18)

Will this happen?? As course it will, because what we are part of this very, very special club:)

Nail on the head, good to see the dynamic duo not letting the grass grow, seems great potential wi the kid, think perhaps would have been preferable wi a 2 yr contract? if hes a quick developer the vultures will soon be circling.

Wonderful news. With all this positive stuff on here,he must be really exciting. Welcome to the 'Stanley Family' Kurtis. Already we are connected 'cause our home ground here at my local football club is in fact Guthrie Park. Hail Kurtis .

I think Kurtis floated back to his hotel tonight he was so excited... A really nice young fella who can't believe he's now a footballer.

Tomorrow on the fishy site there will be video from him and Mr. Coleman from after today's game.

Who said that site never gets updated eh? Hehehe...

Not totally sure but I think the one year option means they have on the clubs part given him a 2 year contract, but with a get out clause whcih favours the club. If they take up the option they can dictate any transfer fee rather than him walking and it going to tribunal. At least thats what I think it means :)

Great news, was well impressed with him at Radcliffe the other night, yeah he,s only young but certainly seemed to have the skills of an older striker and I,m sure the stanley family will take to him straight away.
Looks like Coley may have pulled a rabbit out of the hat again.

Good luck Kurtis and welcome aboard the good ship stanley.

well after 3 goals in 2 games, one of which was against a top english keeper, the kid deserves a chance.:)

Re: Guthrie signs!

Am good mates with Kurtis back in Jersey and I tell you what you boys have signed some player. Absolutely stand out over here and he's only 18, played in age groups of the island muratti this year because his performances in every game were superb. Played against him plenty of times and for a big lad his grace on the ball is remarkable, an absolute natural footballer. Saw him bend one in from 30 yards in a big game only a couple of weeks ago.

His family have got a good sporting pedigree as his sister is one of the England netball team's best players. I honestly think he is potentially Premier League quality, just so hard to get spotted over here. Think the next couple of years will be massive for him, wish him and your club all the best hopefully be the start of something special.

Be excited...

Got to agree with that Cashy, the Lad sounds quite promising & being young shouldn't have to many bad habits that Jimmy & John will have to break him of. :D (Egotism, greed, fast cars, unrealistic expectations, over inflated opinion of self worth)

Pendle Red 17-07-2011 08:20

Re: Guthrie signs!

I share the optimism Mab but League Two for this season will be I think a tougher League than the past few which will throw up a lot of long journeys for the Reds but I also think will prove to be a very good footballing league.

The squad is shaping up well so far with a mix of old faces, new faces, experience, established Football League players & also youthfulness.

It's been tough to watch established players leave and numbers become depleted during the early part of the summer but the signings so far have given us an insight into what we can expect for the coming season from a Stanley perspective we are no longer the new kids on the block from a team perspective we are an established League Two side and in particular the two more experienced signings so far I think prove that?

Last seasons style of play was so pleasing on the eye it was "Total Football" but maybe our undoing at times was against the more physical teams where time factors with teams pressing hard did not give us the opportunity to get it down and play it but hopefully we will have the mix of players to be able to change the style if it's needed this season and look to grind and see results out.

Survival is obviously the first port of call but there is no reason why we can't push on from there and who knows maybe perhaps even surpass last season's finish?:)

Re: Guthrie signs!

Welcome aboard Kurtis !!!

Haven't seen the lad in the flesh yet, however, the Maestro must have seen the promise to get him signed up sharpish...... so here's hoping !!! He comes on board with glowing reports from those who've seen him play and hopefully he can be the perfect replacement for Gornell. And free to boot!!:D

How refreshing it is, to see a lad who took the time to write and ask for a trial and is seemingly determined to grasp the opportunity with both hands!! I'm really looking forward to seeing Kurtis play!!!

Yet again Coley begins to re-assemble a jigsaw. Hopefully, this will be the last time he has to start again from practically scratch. Hopefully the recent finalisation of the off field problems mean that this scenario is the end of him having to re-build at the end of every season.

I think it was inevitible that we would probably lose key players after such a succesfull season, however, in Coley and Bell we can trust.... that they will pull yet more rabbits out of the hat, so to speak.:)

Yes, I agree that survival will be the first priority, however I seem to recall this being the main goal from last term..and it was surpassed with interest !!! Hopefully with money to come from the lads who left who did command a fee, maybe if Illyas and the board can back Coley with some of that money, we can go on to improve on last term !!!

I think that with another keeper, a centre half (two would be better!!!) a couple of wide men in midfield and another couple of strikers, we can look forward to the next season with hope rather than trepidation and fear !!!!:o

The man in charge knows his onions !!! As he says...keep the faith !!!!:D

Pendle Red 18-07-2011 05:25

Re: Guthrie signs!

Carpon I agree a keeper should be a top priority, midfielder wise I think we probably have what we need within Barnett & the triallists, defensive cover again probably covered within the triallists.

Another striker I would like to see an experienced signing there, somebody who perhaps can compliment and act as a foil for Kurtis, somebody he can learn from and also give us the option of 4-4-2 if needed.

How can you possibly hope to be "convinced" by a nervous, 18 year old triallist after only 2 games? All we can say is that the potential is there, and for me, he looked more convincing than Rover's 6 million pound wasted, wantaway number 9, who spends half the match on the floor.:D

don't see how anyone can be convinced at this stage. meself am optimistic given what we know so far n am really looking forward to seeing how the lad develops, we sure aint gonna get a Drogba or Tevez, so a kid like this is a very welcome addition in my view.:)

I dont think anybody is under the illusion he is going to walk in the team and bang in 30 goals this season.

He is 18, and has LOTS of potential, which is what Coley & the rest of us have seen !!!

Dear Jimmy (Bell),

Please could you fix it for me for John Coleman to give me a trial at Accrington Stanley, to score 3 goals in my first 2 games, get a one year deal with an option for another year, score 20+ goals in my first season to fire the mighty reds to automatic promotion and become a Stanley Legend in the process ???

Yours Hopefully
