Re: The 'Burton on a Friday' match thread.
Superb is the only word for it. Stanley have got to be the form team in this or any other division.
Excellent result. Keep on like this and we will be giving the play offs a miss this Season for all the right reasons. How does Coley maintain this Season on Season improvement with the resources and all the changes of personnel? |
Re: The 'Burton on a Friday' match thread.
I think we had 32 after 25 last year too .... my source my spreadsheet records :(. The surge to the playoffs started with game 28.
But this year is not as good as 09/10 - 42 after 25 then .... but it all went wrong at the end that season with only 8 points from the last 12 games. I should get out more ... :D In the meantime - yee haaaa!! |
Re: The 'Burton on a Friday' match thread.
Sat in 8th
There is only 4 L2 fixtures tomorrow, but only Oxford winning or drawing will drop us to 9th. Which will probably slow my nosebleed down a bit;) :bow8:John Coleman, Football Genius:bow8: |
Re: The 'Burton on a Friday' match thread.
Watched Stanley tonight for the first time ever, really impressed with the passing game. Will post my groundhopping blog report on here tomorrow evening The Groundhopper

Re: The 'Burton on a Friday' match thread.
Well another fantastic but VERY wet away day.
Should have been 4-3 with all the chances, but make no mistake Bav's for me had his best game in a Stanley shirt in a LONG time. 1 save in particular was world class. Mcintyre was also magnificent again, what another superb find for Coley. Without a doubt our most improved player. New guy also looked decent, was very harshly booked in the 1st half and took a big bang in the 2nd, so was no surprise to see him replaced........... By Super Tom Bender :) Who looked nice and assured at Center Back. Another option for Coley there. Thankfully their number 17 didnt play all the game as he looked a danger man in the 2nd half. Can we play every Friday night please??? ;) Great to see the legend Andy Todd having an interest in the Stanley still, had a nice chat with him before the game. Roll on Barnet !!!!!!!!!!!! |
Re: The 'Burton on a Friday' match thread.
Just got back from the game,we were superb.
Played in rain and swirling wind, acci had a look at the opposition for 15 minutes and then took control of the game. In the second-half ,I dont think it gets any better in those conditions. Everyone contributed and there was a great energy about us,we seemed to be able to go long/short/wide and attacked with great pace. My main pre-match concern was how our CBs would control Zola and Richards and there speedy widemen. The new lad from Everton was solid, but young Bender was superb,I have to apologise to smudgie, whos been pushing for his inclusion,he was right, and the kid is more than ready. Being left footed,he gave us good balance, and was very vocal. Although only on for 30 minutes, hes done more than enough to convince me hes a talent ( kevin who ??? lol). Exciting times ahead with this team. :):):) |
Re: The 'Burton on a Friday' match thread.
Have been saying that since early season, when we weren't picking up many points,as wyn n the lads will testify. fer me could see the potential. aint seen Bender yet as i can remember, look forward to doing so.:)

Another fantastic victory for the Stanley Boys. Dunbavin & Mcintyre were outstanding tonight.
|
Re: The 'Burton on a Friday' match thread.
Just got back home and what a performance, was well worth the two hour trip through the peak district....
Awsome performance from both the team and the ultras.... the players showed how much it meant to them at the end... promotion form...........? |
Re: The 'Burton on a Friday' match thread.
I thought that last night's performance was magnificent - one of the best Stanley team performances I've seen. It would be difficult to pick a Man of the Match. The team was organised, passing was fluid, tackling superb. Toto was excellent before his injury - and should never have been booked. Tom Bender took his chance and impressed. All the agonising about Kevin Long's departure seems irrelevant.
The officials were awful. |
Re: The 'Burton on a Friday' match thread.
New lad Toto had a scan after his bang on the head last night.
Thankfully just a big bang, only out for around 5 days, which I guess means he will just miss the Barnet game. |
Re: The 'Burton on a Friday' match thread.
What was yer impression of the lad smudge? seems Bender did well when on.:)
|
Re: The 'Burton on a Friday' match thread.
What a win come on stanley play offs here we come!
|
Re: The 'Burton on a Friday' match thread.
New lad looked decent yeh, reminded me of Antwi !!
Young Tom was mega when he came on, brilliant to see him get some minutes under his belt. Just hoping Coley now has abit of faith in him and plays him next Saturday. :) |
Re: The 'Burton on a Friday' match thread.
Great win last night.:alright:
New boy Toto looks good, big and strong for only 19. He did not deserve to get booked, the referee was incompetent.:cursing: At One nil he blew to award a penalty to us, we all heard his whistle from the other end of the ground ..for a foul on Procky I think, then waved play on "advantage?!" as the ball fell to one of our players!! Astonishing faux pas!! As I understand the rules when the referee blows his whistle -play stops- SIMPLE!!! He was also inconsistent..two or three fouls around the time that he booked Toto and players were given a long verbal talking to, yet Toto got booked for his first strong challenge which to me looked like a classis "block" tackle. Had we not got the second goal and Burton scored to draw or win then this would have been a seriously contentious issue. Later Toto got a bang on the head and played on in a bit of a daze for several minutes but still went up bravely for headers and into tackles. Subbed by Tom Bender who is just crackers!!.:w00t:.He is incredibly brave and puts his head into situations where most players would not even think of going!! De ja vue moment when he too got a bang on the head in our goalmouth and he stayed down for a few seconds motionless...hearts in mouths... but then got up and was OK. I think he was sensibly checking himself out ..counting floodlights to see if he was still on this planet???. Amazingly the referee warned him for attempting to waste time!! Super goal by MacIntyre and lots of good performances, especially Bavs who did two great saves in the first half to keep us in front, one on the stroke of half time.:alright::stop: A great night out good, coach trip, excellent cask pint, Bridge Bitter, in the Great Northern pub just over the bridge. (I think I was the only Stanley fan that went in there?).:drink: Coley and Jimmy continue their amazing magic to develop the team from nowhere. Well done too to the Ultras who outsang the home fans throughout.:theband::jimbo: |
Re: The 'Burton on a Friday' match thread.
my favourite bit from the Brewers messageboard
It also is very fair in the belief that Coleman ( who I loath- he is only eclipsed on the vulgar and uncouth stakes by a certain Mr Evans. But I digress)- is a one of the better managers, who despite of being constantly deprived of his better players at almost each transfer window and working on an even tighter budget than ours ( slight dig here..) consistently produces a team that beats us- the double this year. It is the highest form of compliment that I actually find him more annoying than Evans...well.. done.. Mr.... Coleman... we .. were .. beaten ... by ... a ..better... (organised) ... team.. tonight . ( That is SO hard to acknowledge) Read more: Clough The Magic Dragon - The Burton Albion Forum - Login |
Re: The 'Burton on a Friday' match thread.
nice to see from the Oxford link Mab posted that someone has acknowledged the faith shown by fans/club to a management duo when struggling to learn their trade and cope with financial restrictions. How many fan bases have campaigned to get their management team under a long term contract and how sweet it is to see results of that faith start to bloom. Would imagine that John 'n Jimmy are secretly chuffed with the relationship with fans and it all must convert to team spirit on the field as well.
This morning I'm singing " The Stanley are coming - watch out, watch out - - - ". And I haven't touched a drop = yet ! |
