AccyWeb Player of the Season

Hi folks, time once again to vote for your favourite Stanley player from this season.
It can be any member of the current squad, be they a loanee or permanent player, a youngster or one one of our slightly older lads.
One vote per person for one player only please, if anyone posts more than one name without making it clear who their vote is for I will count the first name posted.
Voting will end at midnight on Sunday 29th April to give me a few days to sort the engraving on the trophy which will be presented to the winner at the OSC presentation night on Saturday 5th May.

Re: AccyWeb Player of the Season

My vote for the AccyWeb Player of the Season goes to Padraig Amond who at times has had to plough a lone furrow up front but has also brought some quality to the forward line and has had a really impressive work rate that brings a different dimension to Stanley not dissimilar to Kuyt at Liverpool.:)

Not being able to get to many games, I have to go on the few I managed to see in Feb, so I'd say Jamie Devitt, the lad never stops & seems to give all he's got & then some.

Its a hard call this time in my view, Podge has done well, Deano fer me is our most consistent, Devitt has done great, but aint been here long enough,Long would have got mine if hed stayed, Our most improved player this season is Kevin Mc, so i will go fer him.:)

Like others, I haven't got to too many games but from what I have seen, Pdraig Amond for me too please. highly rated mentions for others such as Kevin McIntyre and Luke Joyce, Danny Coid (unlucky wi' the injury) as was Deano.

Redash 08-04-2012 17:44

Re: AccyWeb Player of the Season

I'll go for Peter Murphy, he's played all over the pitch, and has not let anybody down. He's comfortable on the ball and his distribution is admirable.

Honorary mentions to Kev Mac, podge and Deano, for doing their jobs to an excellent standard.

I think Peter Murphy is the most improved player this season. And for that he would be my player of the season.

From the few games I've been able to get to I would say Amond

Wow this is a difficult one this year!! I have a top 3 of Kevin mc, Peter Murphy and Podge. All three for very different reasons, Kev mc for making us solid down the left after an unconvincing start, Peter Murphy for his attitude a desire to play the game wherever he's asked to play and Podge for pure courage, spring heels and ability to make a complete nuisance of himself! All three are pure 100% ers, but I think we would have really struggled if Pacos de Ferreira had insisted on Podge going back in January like they tried to. So, for turning down the opportunity to play Benfica and for making himself 'one of our boys' I think it's gotta be Podge!!!

Luke Joyce by a country mill, had to deal with various partners in midfield, change of systems, and fill proccys boots.may have had a little dip in form but never goes missing.Kevin mac has been steady and murph is having a good second half of the season

It's great that the choice is not easy.
Murphy's certainly a much improved player - let's hope he makes CB his position. Almond is one, if not the, most tireless of forwards. Dunbavin is no longer just a penalty saver. Devitt has real potential to be a match winner. McIntyre is steady and reliable.
But, despite his relatively late arrival and recent injury, it has to be Hughes for me as the player who's made the most impact on the pitch.

Re: AccyWeb Player of the Season

For me, Dean Winnard. He has been solid when I've seen him, I think he's a good reason why our defence has lost a bit of that " solidity " since he's been injured and I think he'll go on to a bigger club than Stanley.:o

Glad he's got another twelve months on his contract, but I sincerely hope that the powers that be at Stanley extend that contract by another couple of years. I think we are still to see the best of "Deano".

And I wouldn't put it past an ex-manager of ours to come sniffing around Deano. He could see class at this level and Deano has it in abundance, along with potential. Injury free....I can only see this lad getting better !!!!:)

For the attention of Illyas.....Get Deano on a long term (for me a three year deal ). At least if he gets picked up ...at least the club get's recompensed at a fair level !!!:o

And for those who think I might be getting a bit carried away.....I also saw Tom Lees and said after a couple of games that he could go a long way....Tom Lees will turn out to be too good for Leeds if they carry on stagnating in the Championship...don't be surprised if he ends up playing in the Premier League before too long!!!!

Oh...and sorry..runner up......Padraig Amond !!!! Only hope we can get "Podge" signed up on a permanent next season !!!!

Just bumping this thread back up to the top - only another week to get your votes in folks - maybe tomorrow's game will help if you're still not sure who to vote for - thanks to all who have already made their choice :)

Re: AccyWeb Player of the Season

Agree with so many of the posts on this thread; Podge, Murphy, Deano (before he was injured), Bryan Hughes and Danny Coid (when fit) have been immense, Kevin Long was awsome at times, Toto's improved out of all recognition, Craig's come on a treat and showed versatility we never suspected; probably others who should be considered as well.

Since we only get one vote, though, for me it has to be Kevin McIntyre. I agree with Cashy; when he came, some were unsure about him, but he's won them over with his all-round play, and has been a rock at left back. I even forgive him getting turned inside out by the Morecambe winger in the first half at our place. Most improved by a country mile :D

Oldgobbin 22-04-2012 22:05

Re: AccyWeb Player of the Season

Not easy, made even more difficult by Podge's all-action display against the Shrews, as well as Murph's continued improvement and development into one of the club's most reliable players .However, Kevin Mac clinched it for me yesterday. After the first few games I'd have paid for someone to take him off our hands, but how wrong could I be ? What a transformation! I really hope he gets this award, as surely nobody deserves it more.

choirboy 23-04-2012 09:08

Re: AccyWeb Player of the Season

Quite difficult this year as there isn't a single stand out player. Deano and Hughes did well but have had spells out injured. Kev Mc has been very consistent. Paddy has worked very hard up front often on his own but one player being somewhat overlooked on this thread is Craig Linfield. He started the season quite well and scored a couple of goals then Coley left him out which I could not understand. However, since we had the problem of so many defendrers getting injured he volunteered to play right back and he has been a revelation! His attitude is first class and on Saturday he played his heart out and was really knackered at the end. If I was picking the stanley team now his name would be first on the sheet for me at right back.
So for me it is Craig Linfield for The Player of the Year
and Jamie Devitt for the Young Player of the Year

Would it be politic to give a breakdown of, say, the top five names for those of us unable to get to the presentation? Just out of interest.
