Good Luck Bohan I think stories like this are brilliant as well as truly inspirational and he may just prove to be another gem for Stanley.:)

A photo: Pitmen Win Race for Dixon | Pitchero Non League

And a couple of positive quotes from around the web:

'New Hednesford signing Bohan Dixon was introduced into the fray along with Phil Clarke on sixty-two minutes and the substitutions changed the game as The Pitmen began running the channels and seriously challenged a tired looking (Stafford) Rangers defence.'

'With a little over ten minutes remaining, Bohan Dixon turned the Llandudno defence and fired a vicious half-volley across the helpless 'keeper from the right corner of the penalty area - Fernando Torres would have been proud of that one!'

I'm glad that the experience of taking on two amateur hopefuls last term which didn't work out (Guthrie and Taylor) hasn't scared us off that talent pool. With those experiences still fresh in the memory, we may even be more well equipped to bring on a talent from such a background. The biggest challenge is often personal with the player, who has to adapt his lifestyle to that of a professional sportsman. There's little a club can do to teach a particular mentality, so that side of it is down to the player himself. I'm looking forward to seeing Dixon play. He seems to have a lot of good attributes to bring to the table. I hope he comes good. :)

Indeed, but Guthrie was managed by Cook for just as long as he was by Coleman and the current manager was the one that had to tell him his services were not needed. With that in mind, I don't think we have to worry about the risk, as Cook will be well aware of it. :)

Personally I think young Taylor was good enough last season. Of the three appearances he made he lookes easily as good as if not better than Micah Evans.

Maybe it was a case of face didnt fit in his case, hopefully that wont be an issue in this case.

Agree entirely. If I remember rightly, he was MoM in one game although he didn't come on until the second half was well underway.

I think the case with Kurtis Guthrie was his attitude which led to him being released. Leam and PC had offered to assist him in his development as he wasn't the finished article, but he snubbed them both I believe. So taking Bohan on is a risk, yes, but one that can benefit the club in the long term.

Would have been unfair by any new people not to give all the players chance to demonstrate commitment,in my view, So Cooky obviously gave the lad a chance that wasn't taken, not rocket science shaker.;)

Watched League 1 play off Sheff Utd v Huddersfield & was surprised to see Gary Roberts on the bench. Came on as sub & scored a pen in the shoot out, so did all was asked of him. Thought did cross my mind as to whether or not he would be released with the new management in place & the club going up a peg. Must say I did dream of his returning to The Stanley Boys but sadly, cant see happening. Would love to have him & Brett back with us.

All I was saying Cashy was that Cook managed Kurtis and tried to give him as much of a chance as Coleman did, and after that, Cook was the one who had to tell Kurtis he was being released. That task is one of the most difficult things to do to a young player (who probably won't get another professional deal) and won't have taken the decision lightly to bring in another 'unknown' after recent experiences. With this, I think the 'risk' element that people speak of is a non-starter. Cook has done his homework on the Dixon and seems to believe he can develop his talent if met with the same determination from the player. No one is expecting a world-beater from day one, we haven't spent a great deal, so we hope for the best from a budding talent. Happy days. :)

He was high on many supporters' wish lists last Autumn. There was interest in him I believe but no one could see Huddersfield letting him go to a promotion rival. Ben Marshall's half season loan was up from Stoke then so they needed a winger which they got from Reading and are now aiming to secure on a full deal.

The PFA - TransferList

Re: Accrington Stanley Squad

Some very interesting names on that list, but personally, I would go for a mixture of youth and elder statesmen. Michael Symes? Nah he is off to Stanley seconds with messr's Coleman and Bell. Couple of interesting youngsters left clubs like Wigan and Blackburn. Now they could be useful, remember where we got Phil Edwards et al from.

Jimmy Bell was quoted in the Rochdale Observer as saying that Symes wasn't a player they'd be signing. However Phil Edwards was on loan from Stevenage with a view to signing at the end of the season, and that they hadn't ruled out a move for Procter.

There are also rumours linking Peter Cavanagh with a move to Spotland

Re: Accrington Stanley Squad

If I'm not mistaken, Blackpool have been offering "pay as you play" contracts for a couple of seasons now, hence probably why the "basic" salary of the quoted £15k per year / season.:o

If you divide that by 46 (number of league games) that equates to £326 per game basic !!! They'd have to consider additional add ons to the basic wage ( such as appearance fees, win bonuses, goal bonuses etc) but considering Brett's appearances are likely to be pretty restricted at Blackpool, hardly surprising that Brett feels that "offer" isn't good enough.

Question is....what would we (or any other club for that matter) be prepared to offer??? We couldn't afford to break the bank, or for that matter break the wage structure, to accommodate a player, who's (without disrespect to Brett) nearing the end of his career and would be a gamble if we offered a fat juicy contract, and then he spends most of the season in the treatment room (if he got injured)

Maybe we've been offering similiar "pay as you play" deals to the likes of Hessey, McIntyre & Coid, hence the reason they didn't sign??

Fair enough....I'd be delighted to see Brett in a red shirt again and as others have said, maybe they could throw in a coaching role to boot.

Sad fact....but professional football is a mercenary business in what is a short career. Sentiment aside...other clubs in L1, L2 and even the Conference have more resources and can offer better terms / deals than we could. I can't help but think he'll end up at a club who can offer more money.....Fleetwood would be my bet:(

From what I got told Luke Clark is more right back than midfield but can play both. I do know he turned down an approach from somebody else to try out at Stanley

Is Danny Coid training, does anyone know? And are there any authoritative rumours about Bryan?

Coidy's in (working on his fitness) as is Charlie B.

Sounds good! Charlie, Danny and Bryan could be important to us next season :D Do we know if Podge is staying in the sun?

And by the way - could we also have at least two or three 20+ goal-a-season strikers?

PLEASE! :p

Izale McLeod? :o Adebayo Akinfenwa? :o

There'll probably be a few spare Spanish strikers available. The way they play they don't seem to need them much.

Re: Accrington Stanley Squad

Signed, nearly signed, and might possibly sign

Goalkeepers
  1. Ian Dunbavin
Defenders
  1. Danny Coid (back training)
  2. Dean Winnard
  3. Toto Nsiala
  4. Peter Murphy
  5. Leam Richardson (?)
Midfielders
  1. Charlie Barnett (back training - looks like he will sign)
  2. Luke Joyce
  3. Ryan Hopper
  4. Adam Stockdale
  5. Bryan Hughes (no news as yet)
  6. Will Hatfield
  7. Bohan Dixon
  8. Lewis Hatch
  9. George Miller
  10. Luke Clark
Forwards
  1. Craig Linfield
  2. Marcus Carver
Current position (I think); 1 goalkeeper :(, 3 defenders  (not counting Danny and Leam), 10 midfielders :p (which includes Charlie and Bryan) and 2 forwards  (plus Marc Bridge-Wilkinson and Adam Rundle on trial).

I'm going to run another competition next season - "Guess who starts in midfield" .............. :D:D:D:D:D

Re: Accrington Stanley Squad

Does anyone think the amount of midfielders signed may be an indication of tactics/formation for next season? Failing that, one of them being played as a striker?

Just thought you guys may be interested to hear that Sean Hessey (he played for you last season I recall?) played for Barrow in a trial game yesterday.
