Re: Accrington Stanley Squad
I believe Shaun Tuck 25year old striker from Skemersdale is having trial with us. He won the Golden Boots last season, could be a gem.

Re: Accrington Stanley Squad

|
Re: Accrington Stanley Squad

he was young, came from college football big step up for him, scored 9 goals in 14 apps for the reserves in 2004/05.

Re: Accrington Stanley Squad
I was hoping Jon (Bateson) might get another trial at Stanley, but it doesn't seem likely now. He's currently training at the other end of the world!! With Ross County, just promoted to the Scottish Premier League. He's playing in a friendly for them against Raith Rovers tomorrow night.
Not sure if he'd sign for them even if offered a contract due to the distance from home. He's a Lancashire lad and likes his home comforts. Good opportunity though. |

Now that's a long journey to watch him Al !!!.Dean played in Scotland before he came to Acci, and I am glad he didn't stay !,
Hope he gets fixed up down here as he is a talented lad and still only 22!!! May see you at Acci this season--there's a revolution happening !!,free flowing attacking footy, a few 7-4 games guaranteed ---ps,give agent Westley a break,he's doing a fine job and relegation is the minimum we wiganers are hoping for LOL |

His Accrington colleagues from last season have already gone back to pre-season training, but whilst Hughes’ future is up in the air, he has had to make other arrangements: “At the moment I’m training with my old side Hull, whilst I try to sharpen my fitness up.” There is an offer for a contract extension on the table but until everything is sorted out he will have to continue to train away from the club.:( come on Stanley get it sorted |

Re: Accrington Stanley Squad
sod Bryan Hughes!
This interview was arranged by Hughes’ representative Simon Dent of After Dinner Sports Speakers - Rugby Dinners - Football Dinner Speakers (ROAR Global Sports Limited). the whole article is nothing but a "somebody else please come and get me" piece. Barnett hasn't signed a contract (as yet?) but nobody has told him he can't come and train with us. "I'd love to go to Bradford" "I'd love to go to Rotherham" shut the door on your way out please |
Re: Accrington Stanley Squad
That's the way that I read that article as well.
Thanks for a great few months Bryan when you were injury-free, but I'd rather pay to watch some young lads really committed to Stanley and trying to make a career for themselves. |
Re: Accrington Stanley Squad
I think Hughes was a real asset, when fit, but it's clear from the article that Dent is his pimp. So what does that make Hughes? Sad state of affairs. What's the next marketing ploy - Hughes on Ebay?

Re: Accrington Stanley Squad
Doesn't he live over on or near the East Coast?
Might explain his apparent affinity with West/South Yorkshire clubs. I still hope he comes back; he was (is) class |

He destroyed many teams in those first 10 games of that season, but after his ban he was unlucky as we had a winning side and struggled for fitness.
Plus he was crackers !! Great talent when fit though, agreed. |

"Shaun was a player a player we have had a look at but Skelmersdale have had an offer from another club and therefore it is difficult for us to get involved"
Cook in the Observer this week. sounds fair enough to me. "As for us, well Shaun will come back to training this week, and we will welcome him back with open arms" Chairman at Skem. we welcome him back? so have they or have they not had an offer from "someone else"? sounds a bit like mischief making. All down to Tuck I reckon, surely Skem aren't full time and he could maybe force their hand if he really wanted to |
Re: Accrington Stanley Squad
Nothing you can really say if that is true:(
|
Re: Accrington Stanley Squad
i think mr cook is saving his wage money for a goalkeeper, and a proven league goalscorer, thats my view,
|
Re: Accrington Stanley Squad
Keeper, centre back ,centre mid and centre forward then the teams spine would be cookys players- that's how I would go if we had the money !!!
|
Re: Accrington Stanley Squad
More to that than we've been given. Why trial him if we know we can't afford him? Don't accept we couldn't offer him enough if we really wanted him ......... Not money .......something else .............. Outbid by Witton Albion / Skem? No chance!

Would like to see Liddle back.
Had a shaky start but grew into the club :) |
Re: Accrington Stanley Squad
Barnetts heart sure aint in the club, fer me think best to get shut, simple as.
|
Re: Accrington Stanley Squad
I like Charlie, but he does seem to be dragging his heels.
Do we really need him???? :S |
Re: Accrington Stanley Squad
Not if he's dragging his heels. Think of the damage he'd do to that newly laid pitch. I had hopes for Barnett in the post-Ryan era, but he didn't really fulfill them. Let him go if he's not committed.
Agree that Liddle improved and he was one of few players who could tackle and get the ball off opponents. In the absence of Proctor (barging into the opposition to achieve the same end), Liddle would be useful. |
Re: Accrington Stanley Squad
I thought Liddle was great in Defensive Midfield, but by the sounds of it if we get him he will slot in at Left back.
All we need now are 4 strikers and a keeper :D |

Re: Accrington Stanley Squad
Would like Liddle back; thought he was exceptional in midfield at the back end of the season.
I'm really doubting if Charlie or Bryan are coming back, which is a shame, but their choice :o. A fit Danny Coid would be good. :D 10 trialists? Who are the other 8?:confused::confused: And Smudgie - it's four 20 goal-a-season strikers ..........:p Innit ............. |

Ha ha! I remember asking Charlie if he was going to re-sign at the Morecambe pre-season game this time last year, and though he said he would, it was apparent he was stalling again. Although I like Charlie as a player, his attitude does go against the grain bearing in mind Cookie's stated wish, almost a demand, for the squad to take up offers weeks ago. |

Re: Accrington Stanley Squad
To come back to Charlie Barnett, maybe the time has come (or is overdue!) to tell him that the offer of a contract is withdrawn. Let's face it, midfield is one area where we can afford to be selective!
|
Re: Accrington Stanley Squad
Liddle is a cracking prospect, great engine not so sure about left back but he also seems very adept for me if we can get him is's a no brainer.
Still think that a proven Goalscorer or at the very least a Striker with some League Experience is absolutely essential even if it is loan deal, I am sure the management are working hard to bring somebody in for that role. |

Re: Accrington Stanley Squad
I'd have to say the squad is taking shape nicely, just lacking another keeper, another couple of defenders and maybe three forwards to set us up nicely for the new season.
I like the fact that Cooky is going after young lads keen to prove themselves, but a couple of "older heads" in each department would for me be a great big plus. As F19 says, experience down the spine of the team!!:o For that I'd hope Coidy can prove his fitness & get a deal, the Hughes situation is going stale ( and frankly after reading the comments Hughes has made recently, I think he's a non starter). An experienced striker (or two) up top for the younger lads to play off would be a great asset.:) Interesting that, as yet, No players from the Emerald Isle??? And has anybody got the latest on Podge??? All in all, I'm beginning to think we might see a promising season and I'm really looking forward to it. Sign a few more players (hopefully experienced players) in those key positions & I might be tempted to hunt out a bookie offering silly odds!!!:D |

Re: Accrington Stanley Squad
Great signing! Now on fishy site.......is it me or are we actually acting like a football club? Lol....long may it continue.
|
Re: Accrington Stanley Squad
I really like what Michael Liddle has said - and it seems to sum up Stanley so very well. We don't pay the highest wages and we don't have the best facilities - but there is something special about the club that makes many players WANT to play for us. Not all players, of course, but many seem to appreciate what the club is all about.
