I was hoping Jon (Bateson) might get another trial at Stanley, but it doesn't seem likely now. He's currently training at the other end of the world!! With Ross County, just promoted to the Scottish Premier League. He's playing in a friendly for them against Raith Rovers tomorrow night.

Not sure if he'd sign for them even if offered a contract due to the distance from home. He's a Lancashire lad and likes his home comforts. Good opportunity though.

What a shame. I would love to have seen him back at the Crown. Still, if he goes up north he could get better weather than us - not sure where Ross is exactly, but the Scots in the far north west have had a scorcher of a summer so far!

Not if he's dragging his heels. Think of the damage he'd do to that newly laid pitch. I had hopes for Barnett in the post-Ryan era, but he didn't really fulfill them. Let him go if he's not committed.

Agree that Liddle improved and he was one of few players who could tackle and get the ball off opponents. In the absence of Proctor (barging into the opposition to achieve the same end), Liddle would be useful.

Reckon thats nailed it!. The more i think about this, its obvious to me, He will only sign if nowt better comes along! Ha ha! I remember asking Charlie if he was going to re-sign at the Morecambe pre-season game this time last year, and though he said he would, it was apparent he was stalling again. Although I like Charlie as a player, his attitude does go against the grain bearing in mind Cookie's stated wish, almost a demand, for the squad to take up offers weeks ago.

Liddle is a cracking prospect, great engine not so sure about left back but he also seems very adept for me if we can get him is's a no brainer.

Still think that a proven Goalscorer or at the very least a Striker with some League Experience is absolutely essential even if it is loan deal, I am sure the management are working hard to bring somebody in for that role.

Re: Accrington Stanley Squad

I'd have to say the squad is taking shape nicely, just lacking another keeper, another couple of defenders and maybe three forwards to set us up nicely for the new season.

I like the fact that Cooky is going after young lads keen to prove themselves, but a couple of "older heads" in each department would for me be a great big plus. As F19 says, experience down the spine of the team!!:o

For that I'd hope Coidy can prove his fitness & get a deal, the Hughes situation is going stale ( and frankly after reading the comments Hughes has made recently, I think he's a non starter). An experienced striker (or two) up top for the younger lads to play off would be a great asset.:)

Interesting that, as yet, No players from the Emerald Isle??? And has anybody got the latest on Podge???

All in all, I'm beginning to think we might see a promising season and I'm really looking forward to it. Sign a few more players (hopefully experienced players) in those key positions & I might be tempted to hunt out a bookie offering silly odds!!!:D

It doesn't matter now; he's signed for Witton:

I really like what Michael Liddle has said - and it seems to sum up Stanley so very well. We don't pay the highest wages and we don't have the best facilities - but there is something special about the club that makes many players WANT to play for us. Not all players, of course, but many seem to appreciate what the club is all about.
