Re: Accrington Stanley Squad

Positive attitude speaks volumes for the lad and also the message the management are getting over to players can't be over emphasised enough.

Quality addition just keep thinking Striker wise but after seeing Marcus Carver in the youth team and then the first team he has the attributes of becoming a good striker and seems to be finding the net pre-season so maybe we already have somebody to step up?

smudgie 19-07-2012 08:53

Re: Accrington Stanley Squad

Carver looks a real talent to me.

Was massively impressed with him when he made the two appearances at the end of the season.

Rumour's are he is being watched.............. Hopefully not!

Whalley Red 19-07-2012 11:37

Re: Accrington Stanley Squad

Fully agree on Carver.

However, I do think we still need an experienced striker, who will both help his development and share the responsibility for goals.

Carver looks a much better prospect than Kurtis Guthrie, but it would be a waste if he similarly lost his confidence at the start of the season if the goals weren't coming.

Agree n experienced striker is certainly needed, Also reckon carver is a much better prospect n Kurtis, Though in my opinion he will be unlikely to lose confidence, Reckon his mentality is much stronger n kurtis, only thing concerns me slightly about the kid, is hopefully he can control his temper, i think he can now.

Noticed that various triallists and first team squad members are following each other on Twitter.

Not much clue as to what's happening but one of the recent Tweets from a triallist was "Decision".

Adam Rundle tipped Ryan Hopper for a great future.

Got to say, even though I couldn't be at the match, a crowd of just shy of 1900 for the Stanley v Rovers match for a pre-season was not too good and as you rightly say, the segregation that was put out probably put a lot of folk off, even though the club put out that there was no segregation on the day (a bit too late in my book). Maybe the new team are on a learning curve and won't make the same mistake again. BTW who DID get the Coppice terrace?

Has anyone published yet what the crowd was for Fleetwood v Blackburn?

No it's not, Smudgie, he more than deserves everything the fans can throw at him. You obviously aren't up to speed with the full, appalling details of his tenure as Rover's manager. Apart from everything else, the most relevant thing is that he has publicly shafted the fans and he will never, ever, be accepted by the majority of them even if he gets them back to the Premier league, which is about as likely as me being sainted.

Of course not, but I have heard equally sickening comments from the mouths of certain long established Clayton Enders who are now seen as pillars of Stanley society after attaining respectability. I don't think you can damn the Rovers fans because of a few idiots.

That march by the 6 gorillas across the Clayton End, was pathetic n in my view it was only to provoke a reaction,:( Who ever organised security that day from the Stanley side, should be speaking to the Rovers n possibly the police about those clowns. Agree, think the first game, which is a tough un, should give a good indication, Have to say, this is first pre-season in the league, were i aint been concerned about us staying up.:)

Pendle Red 02-08-2012 12:17

Re: Accrington Stanley Squad

On paper it is a very young squad with smatterings of experience which does worry me but I will also add that there is probably a greater balance in the squad with players who can interchange roles than we have perhaps had in previous seasons.

From the look of pre-season with shape this is now vey much Paul Cooks team and there is a real fluidity through the football I have seen so far but I still worry where the goals will come from up front or we are needing quite a few goals to come from a relatively new midfield which could be a big ask?

Just looking again at the fixture list reminds me what a tough League this is for this season arguably the Club's sternest test since coming back to the Football League.

Whatever it promises to be a roller coaster ride and I wish the Management and players all the best for another good season:)

Don't want to appear churlish but, with all due respect to the lad, is this who all the secrecy was about last night? Is he the one who was on his way by plane? Or have we got more good news to look forward to today - not casting any doubts about Karl Shepherd, just not someone I've heard of & it was made to sound like we'd pulled off a real coup

My thoughts too Accymad never even heard of him, was expecting somebody of more mature years with a wealth of experience with all the fuss being generated last night, but good luck to the lad.
