Re: V Port Vale Guess The Gate
Thanks for the kind words mab - I presume it's the same chap from OneValeFan? You make some very valid points. We have actually recieved some positive news in the last few days - 17 out of the 18 players have agreed to the new contract terms. Centre-back David Artell has decided to pursue other options (apparently, he's joining Northampton today). Accrington away is a bit of an enigma, to be honest. It's a pretty run-down ground and the away end has no roof, which means acoustics and general atmosphere are poor and non-existent. However, on the flip side, it has one of the best and most accomodating pubs in the entire league (The Crown), some of the most friendliest and welcoming supporters in the entire league, lovely food inside the ground and your supporters made an admirable effort during the game given the small number of you that are behind that goal. Hats off to you for that - it's always great to see a small team such as yourself really getting behind your team no matter what circumstances. I wish ourselves and the majority of others in this league followed suit once in a while instead of getting on the players' backs the second they make an error.
I'm very much looking forward to Accrington away. Not only is it our first away game of the season, but for reasons given above, it's an enjoyable away game. The fact it is on a Tuesday night is slightly annoying meaning the atmosphere may be affected even more, but if we get two positive results from our opening two games, and we recieve any positive news within the next 8 days - it may spur us on to actually make a bit of noise. I certainly remember our brilliant encounter on a Tuesday night where we came away with a 2-1 win and all three of our goals were absolute belters from distance. The 3-0 defeat where chaos erupted was a bad memory of the previous regime, and I can only apologise on behalf of Vale fans were what transpired that day. It wasn't targeted at Accrington Stanley Football Club, it just so happened that that was the day and venue that Vale fans lost all sense of control and calmness with then-manager Jim Gannon and his appallingly-bad team selections, attitude and general arrogance. It caused a big scene post-match that wasn't too pretty. All forgotten though now. Much more serious issues to address for us - our very future is hanging in the balance. I don't know what to expect from the game myself. I'd be disappointed if we didn't go there looking to win the game, and if we want to get out of this league (no disrespect) but we should be looking to win these kind of games. I think it's fair to say another mid-table season will be seen as a success for Accrington? You've brought in quite a few youngsters released by Premier League clubs, many whom have declared their confusion over why a few of them have even been let go as they have promise. I think this season will be about building and gelling the squad as a unit for you, and then pushing on next season. We're just happy to have a team to support, I guess. I'm sure we'll turn up in our numbers in 8 days time. Sorry for the life story guys. :) Just thought I'd put some life into this thread and give a view of proceedings from a Port Vale perspective. I'm going to stay level-headed on this one as I don't know how the two games we have before next Tuesday will go, so I'll go for an assured 1-1 draw. Jennison Myrie-Williams with our goal. Good luck for next week chaps, and let's hope we have a great game. |
