New loan signing

Just read this on the Telegraph website.

Accrington Stanley close in on Sampson loan

ACCRINGTON Stanley are set to complete the loan signing of Jack Sampson from Bolton Wanderers.
The 19-year-old is a left-sided forward who has been capped by England under 19s and spent time on loan at Southend last season.

Re: New loan signing

The loan market provided .... Bolton’s u19 England international striker Jack Sampson, of whom Paul Sturrock rather pithily said, “He’s a big boy. Six foot two. Left footed with a strong build”. So now you know …….. Sturrock also said, “He’s here for a month. If he excites us we’ll extend the loan”. Go on Jack – excite them!

(Quote from last season's "away" Prediction League thread v Southend)

Don't know if he excited Sturrock - hopefully he'll excite us! :D

Welcome Jack ............ By the way, the lad who wore shirt number 20 before you has only just left the club :o

Re: New loan signing

Anyone spotted any successful loan signings this season?

I would say Atkinson obviously, after that..........struggling.

Does that say something about the calibre of loan players in general or about our selection?

Re: New loan signing

most loan signings are young 1st year pros, which are being tested by there clubs at the next level ( higher than resis but lower than there first team ).
The older loanees are players that cant get into the first team and need match time or have fallen out with the manager/coaches.
Very hard for a young lad to shine against more senior pros and different systems.
Although some do make an impression, most dont, and its a reality check for them, that they have to work harder on there game.
The resis system is now a under 21 league, which in my opinion is the right way to go,so lads at 18 are not abandoned, and get another 2 years to develop.
Players have a development/growth pattern of plus or minus two years and growth spurts are random, even upto the age of 20.
Therefore releasing a kid at 18,when you really dont know his true potential until around 21-22 is just a waste of money invested in him(coaching time) from 10 to 17.
People are mistified why foreign kids are technically better than ours, but the blame lies with the pc brigade,
A study shown at Barca,a kid between 8-14 received on average 10000 hours of coaching, our academies for the same period was less than 3000 !!,coincidence or way !!

Re: New loan signing

Agree with lots of the above but my concern is the effect that our loan policy has on existing players.

Our 'fringe' players have seen other young players like Watson, Dawson, Mingoia, Winchelow, Sampson, Osawe, Sheppard be given preferential treatment, i.e. the management have taken a gamble on them.

I like the idea of bringing in players like Schofield and Atkinson on loan because they have a bit of pedigree and experience, and this imo should be the type of player we get in to help the young squad, not inexperienced 1st year pros who, if they were good enough for us, would be on the fringes of the first teams they have come from.

Re: New loan signing

Agree with that frank, and bringing in loanees and playing them ahead of our own is always a grey area.
Football is really a "glorified gentlemans club" and managers/coaches always help each other.
A classic example was at Preston, were a lot of man utds up and coming talent was loaned out to them.
Then Fergies lad was sacked as manager, and his dad recalled all of them.
Nothing to do with the development of these lads or game time, just pure spite.
Unfortunatley thats football,and wont change.
You never know,One day we may have a team with local lads out-numbering the scousers LOL:):):)

Now that Beckham has decided to leave the USA, should we start preparing the Number 23 shirt in readiness for Leam's next Galactico ?

He would certainly put a few on the gate and his Mrs looks like she could do with a Pie or two.

How about putting a bit back into grassroots football Mr Beckham ?

Old Trafford, Wembley, San Siro, Bernabeu ?

There is only one cathedral of soccer (sorry football) missing from your CV.

Please phone 0871 434 1968* and ask for Rob Heys.

* Calls cost 10ppm, mobiles considerably more and for calls from the USA, well you can afford it)

Not even a Holland's pie could put a smile on Mrs Beckham's face.
She could turn your half-time Bovril cold with one pout.

Am I the only one who thinks that lately, due to the short-term and often temporary tenure of their involvement at the Club, most 'Loanees' have often shown a lack of interest in their game...or worse still, a shortage of commitment to the Team, resulting in lacklustre performances ??.

With the notable exception of Rob Atkinson, I think we have gained nothing from the high number of loanees. I would have thought that they would have seized an opportunity to impress but that has not been so. I don't know whether it is because of their temporary link with the club or simply their limited talent. Most of them are less talented than our own players, and their presence IMHO has made it more difficult to have a settled Stanley squad.

I would like to see players such as Chippendale and Dixon included regularly in the match squad and used as subs.

I agree the majority of loaness have had little impact with the exception of Atkinson and possibly RAchubka??

Thought Schofield did ok, but as Leam said struggled with injuries etc.
