York City Match Thread........

Well I wanted to start this nice and early, then hopefully we can forget about that horror show yesterday.

Major surgery needed !

Agree Smudgie severe pruning required, and urgently. If we get really badly beaten on Tues the gates will dwindle to 1100 again. After yesterday poor show back to basics, start with the majority of players that started the season so well, and see how we fair.Your team for Tues I would go with.I would be tempted to bring Carver back.

The lads we have loaned out arent ready YET,in my opinion.
Watched Carver the other week and is doing well for his age,but was given a rough ride by semi pro defenders and was subbed,so cant see it happening.

I hope so Cashy after watching that diabolical show yesterday anything could happen. No wonder Cooky would'nt talk about the game. It was a long journey home.

After their abysmal performances at Torquay and Oxford, tonight's game has become very important to Stanley. I realise it's a bit early in the season to be saying this but it could even be a crucial game. A win, however it comes, and three points could steady the ship. A fourth defeat in a row could put a hole below the waterline (thank you, Admiral Lord Nelson).I just hope the entire team emerges from the coma it's been recently and gets the required result.

I can see from your earlier posts that you've heard the rumour?
It's looking more than a rumour from our end and somethings happening. I hope we aren't appointing a guy on the back of one game and we've done our homework here.
By the way, the plaudits from Spireites (including myself) for that game at our place where we somehow managed to win are wide spread. Superb football to watch.

Second best all over the park. They had too many good experienced pros and were more aggressive than us,together with being a yard quicker.
We really don't have a ball winner or a forward who can hold the ball up.
They were very well organised and to be fair,I couldn't see any of our team getting in there's.
When you get on a bad run,the younger lads look for leaders, both vocally and work rate,I am afraid I just can't see or hear it.
I never thought I would see an acci team with such little desire, worrying times.

Re: York City Match Thread........

Paul Walker.

When we scored tonight half the team ran over to the stand-in manager to thank him and at the final whistle he stayed on to shake every one of our players hands, which was very unusual after a home defeat.
The rumours were also all over the ground tonight as well and Paul Walker's tweeted again tonight that we are to announce your man tomorrow.

No definate facts, though even if it's not Cook, somethings happening at our end and not before time (we can't carry on like this with a temp in charge and no leader).

Re: York City Match Thread........

One major word EMBARASSING. Second to every ball , lacked commitment , effort , knowledge and passion about the whole football game! How can you expect to increase home crowds with performances like this?! Everyone looked so tired from a pathetic performance against Oxford! Why is this? As we seemed to do nothing! We should be winning games like this as York were nothing special at all and were limited to pot shots! I don't think there keeper had a shot on goal to save in the second half! For a home attacking team is this acceptable!?

Yes Paul cook is the accrington man , he brings honesty and also a great wealth of experience and knowledge but his tactics are woeful at the minute and especially tonight!! 1-0 down and bring on toto !?!

At the minute I couldn't careless if he went to chesterfield as its really not worked for the last 5 games! Players etc are all over the place!

He should explain himself and the players as to pay £18 to watch yet ****e it's really not on!

Book up cooky!!

And please at least show appreciation for the fans! With crap football and no attacking hardly at all tonight the Clayton end were loud , strong and proud yet you never even acknowledged the fans !!!! Disrespect .

I have trust but with going more or less every home and away game I am starting to get at that end of my tether!!

Re: York City Match Thread........

I've never known it take so long to get a post-match interview on the fishy site. Could it be that Cooky is in the car on the way to Chesterfield? In my heart I don't want him to go but right now I don't see him doing anything worthwhile for us. We're not holding a formation, we're second to every ball, we can't pass, we can't tackle and we can't run. I look back at the journeys home from Southend and Cheltenham and just don't understand how it can all be going so badly wrong. Let's get Gray back from his loan deal and put him on the park with Eckersley. To play these two players of ours must be worth trying when you look at how we are playing.

Re: York City Match Thread........

I cant believe how quickly things have changed. Wimbledon away the other week we where fantastic for 80 minutes, we could have won 4-1 that day.

Are all the loan players to blame, I really dont know the answer.

One thing I do know I that the next 2 games are absolutely massive.

Two wins and this will be seen as a blip, two losses and somethings will need looking at.
We also have to be realists, avoiding relegation is ALWAYS the target. Anything more is a bonus.

Looking at the league table its Unbelievablay tight.

I agree ,but last night was massively better than Saturdays debacle,by dropping most of the loan players we did play better not brilliant but better.

Re: York City Match Thread........

For what it's worth I think some of the reactions on here are a bit over the top, yes it was disappointing to lose again but on the whole it was a good deal better than Saturday & had we held on & managed to get a point out of the game (Bavs played a blinder & really didn't deserve to have a goal against him - fully deserved his motm) would we have still had these knee jerk reactions posted on here?
Agree with some of what F19 says, they were more organised & were bigger & stronger than us so we got out-muscled a lot of the time, can't blame the ref but he didn't help matters - it's a wonder he didn't get repetitive strain injury to the arm which always seemed to point out decisions in York's favour - they suckered him in time after time.
Cannot agree with those who aren't bothered if Cooky goes, for goodness sake - give the man time, remember he's still learning too & I think him & Leam will see us out of this blip - get behind them (incidentally it's not 18 quid to get in & even if it was I don't think it's Cook who sets the price)!

smobile 24-10-2012 08:02

Re: York City Match Thread........

Fact is that someting needs to be done quick - I am not advocating a change at the top, but if my calcuations are correct, Paul Cook has been in charge for 33 Games.

8 Wins, 7 Draws and 18 Defeats.

We have 33 League games remaining and on this form we would get another 31 points to add to the 17 we already have makes 48.

Not sure this would be enough to stay up.

Agree 100% with Smudgie - Next two games are Massive.

Keeping the faith for now, but I witnessed Rochdale,Torquay and Oxford games - last two were the worst performances I have seen since we got back in the league.

Stanley were not that bad, York were better/quicker on the night, Could have gone either way, Fact is it went the way of the side that deserved it more. Think the really crap displays previously are causing over reaction.

Whalley Red 24-10-2012 10:04

Re: York City Match Thread........

There was certainly effort in evidence last night, but apart from one low cross into the six-yard box in the first half, we never really looked like scoring a goal.

The whole team (apart from Bavs) looked low on confidence last night. Too many times, it was a cause of kick the ball up-field and hope. Whenever there were some neat passing triangles, we always looked to then pass it back to one of our defenders or hoof it up-field.

Maybe it is the system that we play - with a lack of confidence, our players can't seem to find another red shirt and so kick it long where our sole striker has little chance of keeping it.

My question: is it time to go back to 4-4-2?

Of the two holding midfielders, Joyce can't find his own team mate when put under pressure and Miller looks very composed on the ball, but appears a little lightweight physically.

Of the three attacking midfielders, Boco and Molyneux play so wide that it leaves Hatfield exposed in the middle and easily over-run.

Of our lone striker, Podge does really well considering the distribution to him - how often does he get the ball to his feet so he can lay it back to Hatfield and build a move?

Chippendale has looked very good when he has played, always able to get in a cross but with just Podge in the middle, it is almost always a wasted ball. Chris Turner wasn't able to get a game in this formation and I think that will also be the case with Chippendale.

My team/formation:

...................Dunbavin....................... .......

Winnard......Murphy......Atkinson......Molyneux

Boco....Hatfield/Barnett....Miller....Chippendale

.........Sheppard/Gray/Carver....Amond...........

One player that we are missing IMO is Andy Procter. Luke Joyce was at his best alongside him; I expect George Miller would play better with someone so combative in the middle with him.

The other issue is that without Bavs being so brilliant so far this season, we would be in real trouble right now :(

shakermaker 24-10-2012 10:23

Re: York City Match Thread........

Agree on many points Whalley Red, especially the need to revert to 4-4-2. We are stretching the game to get wide but leaving massive gaps in the middle of the park. The full backs wander aimlessly with no protection. Far too often we look outnumbered.

My eleven for Saturday would be:

Dunbavin
Murphy Atkinson Winnard Molyneux
Boco Joyce Dixon Chippendale
Amond Sheppard

No matter who plays, the priority has to be getting the basics of positioning right. Without the ball we are frighteningly bad (as showed in York's goal last night). With the ball we aren't doing much either come to think of it.

Gulp.

yonmon 24-10-2012 11:22

Re: York City Match Thread........

Much the same as I witnessed at The Kassam on Saturday I'm sorry to say....and does the matter of 'one effort only on goal'not go a long way in converting we devotees into Non-fans ??.
By this I don't mean non-attendance at Home and Away Matches, but rather the feeling of despondence which seems to settle on us when witnessing the current efforts which our Team parade before our eyes !!.
Fans should sing !..but several pro-yoksher taunts from the Coppice end went unchallenged by The Ultras ...strange !.
Fans should be seeing activity which stimulates the rising to one's feet and then shouting and cheering their support.Last night, the Main Stand gave a good impersonation of a Mausoleum with the Coffin lids open such was the lack of enthusiasm., why even the 'Get it up t'field ' lads were virtually silent !!.

My worry is then, that this collective display of gathering gloom, might make other alternatives to a Stanley match look more attractive to a point where these replace a visit to the Crown !!...and numbers will decrease accordingly.

I do hope then that Paul and Liam create something that will bring back the smiles to the faces of their fans... something to Shout about... something to remember !!.. (particularly on long drives home from away games **.

It's more than four defeats in a row... it's what we're seeing !!....

( And Alfred.E. says that I'm turning into a grumpy old f..t !)

Crown Grounder 24-10-2012 12:17

Re: York City Match Thread........

Well, much analysis as usual with plenty of differing opinions. I'm not going to repeat what's been said already, agree or disagree.

My point is "goals change games". Its the oldest truth in football. It doesn't really matter, who plays, why they play, or how they play. The formation doesn't really matter.

What matters is taking one's chances when they arise during the game. Goals lift the crowd, the manager and most importantly the team.

What we did earlier in the season was to put the ball in the net. We are not doing it now and we need to start on Saturday. So two things:

1. Come on Cooky lets have three days of shooting practice, from anywhere and every where, all over the park and of course especially in and around the 18 yard box, and

2. We need two or three players getting into the box when we get the opportunity and have the ball in the final third of the pitch.

Keep the faith!

football19 24-10-2012 12:52

Re: York City Match Thread........

I must admit,i thought Atkinson did well last night, but Shaker has it spot on.
Man Utd played last night and started 4-2-3-1,and were two down and had no width, before going 4-4-2,with width and getting a result.
My point is you cant play this system with width as it becomes 4-5-1 and isolates the forward, which in turn the ball keeps coming back.
You have to hold the ball up front to allow runners to get there, and all the teams we have struggled against do this.
If you play the "three",then they should pass, move and rotate positions.
Did hatfield boco and molyneaux do this?,from what i saw we just played two out wide and hatfield isolated behind podge.
I dont know if the players are struggling to take on board Cookys ideas, but he spent 90 minutes screaming at them.
