Re: The Let's Start a Gillingham Thread Thread
Great entertainment! The Gills showing why they are top of the table with some great play out of defence into attack, while the Reds resorted too often to hurried clearances, probably because the visitors pressed the ball very effectively. Stanley moved up a couple of gears in the second half and got a grip of the game with some high tempo stuff. I disagree with the radio Lancs reporter who thought the penalty and sending off was the turning point, as we had turned the game's dynamic well before that, and we could easily have had a couple before then had we been a bit more clinical with our chances. The Gills were very lucky in the end to escape with a point, and how the ref only saw fit to give 4 added minutes is beyond belief. Stirring stuff from Stanley and another wonder save from Dunbavin near the end to avoid a big injustice.
Sorry, Jeff, but Toto is twice the player Murphy is IMHO. At least he usually manges to retrieve his scary moments. |

Fer my money, best game ive seen this season, Gillingham came to play football,as yeh would expect from the leaders of division, Stanley matched em,The Gills were very fortunate their goal was allowed, twas a BLATANT handball, definitely controlled the ball,no accident at all, The liner on cowshed must be blind as a bat, either that or a Gills fan, Ref was unsighted i thought, so certainly down to that cretin. Podge came on n sure made a difference, Craig missed n open goal after a lovely through ball from Beattie, who himself did great with the penalty, considering the time he had to stand n wait, would probably have rattled a younger un i thought,? near the death Stanley were rampant, Think twas Rommy that smashed the post wi a cracker,Thought Gillingham were crapping it n wasted as much time as possible after there keeper was sent packing. That was summat the ref should have got a grip on to me, over all, well done Stanley, bring on Rotherham.:)

A well earned point, but if Craig would have been on his metal we could have had three

How many times this season have I read on this forum the words "Dunbavin, Wonder and Save" in the same sentence ?

Great game on a dismally cold and wet day. Every credit to Accy players. Could not find a poor performance among among them . We were not outplayed by division leaders and with bit of luck could have taken all three points. Think their goal was a bit dubious with what looked like a handball by the scorer. Hope they can carry this into tuesday's game with Rotherham :)

Re: The Let's Start a Gillingham Thread Thread
Was interested how we would cope against a very good Gills team, and to be fair, they had to dig in at times. We started 4-4-2,whilst they went a sort of 4-1-3-2 with a 6-3 holding player.
You could see why they were top of the league and were solid all over the pitch,in particular central areas. They were well versed in corners and set pieces, and we really had to concentrate. In burton and Weston, they had bags of pace, and Toto and Atkinson had there hands full, both did well, although there goal was a bit disappointing . We seemed to grow into the game, and turned the screw and the goal was deserved, although if Linney had his shooting boots on,it could have easily been three points. I have to mention Liam's substitution, which again turned the game ,has he got the Midas touch?,hope so. |

Re: The Let's Start a Gillingham Thread Thread
Best game of footy I have seen in years!! A very good Gills team, who played great football, we did not look out of place and on any other day, we would have got what we deserved - a win!!
We need to produce games like that on a regular basis, then I am sure that the crowds will flood back........... :) :) :) |
Re: The Let's Start a Gillingham Thread Thread
Very exciting game. Gillingham played with the mentality of league leaders and we matched them in most if not all areas.
Ian Dunbavin - couldn't do anything for the goal but saved a point for us late on with another brilliant save. Dean Winnard - nothing got past him. Very strong performance, always offered help down the flank as well. One of his best. Toto Nsiala - this lad actually enjoys pushing me to the point of cardiac arrest, I'm sure of it. Needs to improve concentration and not believe he is owed a place in the side. Recovered well from mistakes though and succeeded in keeping Burton at rest. Rob Atkinson - found it difficult at times against Weston but gave a strong all round performance as we have come to expect. Played some good diagonal balls forward. Michael Liddle - after a wobble he's really come back to his best since the Fylde game. Very similar to Winnard in that he remains strong throughout the game and offers a lot going forward. Will be disappointed with the goal we conceded. Luke Joyce - man of the match for me. Sterling midfield performance against a strong centre from the Gills. Broke up play, showed great awareness and moved the game into the next phase regularly. Excellent. George Miller - this lad is a joy to watch when he has the ball. Very close control, did his best to pick passes with little movement in front of him. Could become very important for us with more league games. Lee Molyneux - didn't have his best game, found it difficult to provide service as he normally does. Ran himself into dead ends a few times. Craig Lindfield - he will know he had a bad day at the office. Gave every ounce of effort he had to change the game but nothing came off for him unfortunately. Rommy Boco - played well and would've had a goal if not for that pesky post. Moved well across the front line and caused problems for Gillingham's defence. James Beattie - didn't play until he had the goal. Maybe he was trying to impress on his first home start but the attempted dummies and flick-ons leading to nothing became tiresome. After the goal he was a different player and was much more effective dropping deep and letting Podge go forward. In the past two games we have more than matched top sides from the division. If we keep our concentration there's no reason why we can't challenge for the top places. |
Re: The Let's Start a Gillingham Thread Thread
Well a really enjoyable game, and as others have said the best I have seen this season. Make no mistake the Gills are a very good side under the Mad Dog. Their passing was slick , quick and we really didnt have an answer in the first 45 minutes.
Full credit to Leam and the lads, the second half was a different story. Boco looked a class apart, as did Beattie. I really hope he sticks with us as when he gets 100% fit. Thought all the lads had great second halves, with the exception of Lindfield who had an absolute shocker. Hopefully just a bad day at the office. Would have liked to see him hauled off with Hatfield or Gray given the last 20. All in all a brilliant day and for me if we carry on, no reason why we cant make the playoff's. First target as always, 40 points :) |
Re: The Let's Start a Gillingham Thread Thread
Just worth reflecting that - of the current top six in League Two - we've
a) beaten Port Vale at home (2-0) b) beaten Southend (1-0), Cheltenham (3-0) and Fleetwood (3-1) (away) and c) drawn at home with Bradford and Gillingham (both 1-1). 14 points out of 18, 11 goals scored and 3 conceded I'd have happily taken that before the start of the season ........Wouldn't you? Keep the Faith! :D |
Re: The Let's Start a Gillingham Thread Thread
I can't agree with the criticism of Craig Lindfield by so many posters. I thought he created a heck of a lot of our threat on goal and could have had a hat trick with a bit of luck. Super performance for me!

Re: The Let's Start a Gillingham Thread Thread
Linny gave 100% - as always - he did not go missing, even though it just was not his day!! I would though have replaced him with Gray after 70/75 mins....
