Seasonal Emergency!

Can we sign an emergency 'keeper if our emergency keeper suffers an emergency? Or does young Dawber ask Santa for a pair of goalkeeping gloves for Christmas, like we all did ...............? :o

Keep the Faith! :D

Will be a massive test for the young Dawber, thats for sure.

Im confident he is good enough . :)

Re: Seasonal Emergency!

Good confident kid,who won't let anyone down.We have a young back four,so he will feel comfortable ,hope they do give him a go,although generally, keepers seem to blossom a lot later than outfield players,he has the tools to succeed

No ones disputing that, but is the fact we must have a keeper on the bench too difficult to grasp?

Re: Seasonal Emergency!

have not seen the sending-off incident, but assuming no appeal/joy, then Andrew Dawber has three very tough games before ban ends/window opens. Should put some steel into the defence knowing they have to support a young teammate between the sticks - and, anyway, didn't he have a very good match in the paint-pot trophy early season ? I'm behind the young man - whatever the results. Aye, and youth team keeper on the bench for the next few games can't harm his development.

cashman 24-12-2012 11:28

Re: Seasonal Emergency!

He did have a fair game in paint pot, have no qualms about the lad playing, but do not think the youth team lad should be on bench.

DaveinGermany 24-12-2012 11:40

Re: Seasonal Emergency!

Since the options are severely limited, just have to hope the lad can do the best he can & that the back four buck up to ease the pressure on him.
Regardless of what happens it'll be valuable experience & a major step in his learning curve.

fact implies rule

Cashy calling someone thick implies everyone knows this rule

so was just checking

there's a good number of teams don't bother on occasions to list a spare goalkeeper, preferring to increase their outfield options instead, as the likelihood of needing that spare keeper is rare.

May be rare, but on 2 occasions so far this season warranted, its sods law macca yeh will need one.;)

i kinda agree, and its definitely sods law that we'll need one in the next 3 games if we cant acquire another

Not from being head butted you can't, only if the ball hits you on the head :)

I don't know about killed, but Chadwick could have got a part in Reservoir Dogs.
Did not his reaction have 'intent'? Intent to cheat.

maccawozzagod 28-12-2012 10:02

Re: Seasonal Emergency!

there was no way the appeal would have overturned the ban. What it should do though is force the FA to look at the video and decide whether Chadwick should be allowed to carry on playing football. Surely he is a health and safety risk if he can be hurt so easily? God forbid if he ever has to head a ball at pace!

Re: Seasonal Emergency!

If another emergency keeper is flown in for tomorrow, I do feel for Mr. Dawber.
I appreciate the arguments as to why he oughtn't to get his chance right now but, equally, how is he ever to show his worth? He's been warming up the first-choice keeper and the bench all season, and despite an injury to Dunbavin and a ban for his stand-in, the lad may continue to have to sit out another match.
Maybe he is too young and inexperienced but I recall Rob Elliot wasn't much older, if at all, when he started at Stanley.
Without regular reserve games and an abundance of 'unused' third choice keepers at bigger clubs, it's hard to see how a young keeper could establish his place in a team.

Not on his performance against Stanley in pre-season.
Obviously the chant of "England's No.1..." he received from t'Rovers fans was an abbreviation of "England's No. 1...butterfingers".:p

Re: Seasonal Emergency!

I tend to agree Exile............ BUT the kid has only just turned 18, has bags of talent and without a doubt will get more chances between now and the end of the season.

IF he has a nightmare then it could destroy him.

On the other hand he plays a blinder and becomes our automatic first choice at 18 years old. Its a massive problem to have, and maybe Leam is right not throwing him into the side at such a young age.

But with Rachubka now back at Leeds, and the statement on the club website not hinting that his loan will be renewed after completion of the suspension, surely another keeper will be needed.

2010-11 he broke his cheekbone playing for Bury at Southend, so that's very probable ....... :)

Interestingly, he seems to have made his Bury debut as a late sub against Accie at the Crown Ground on 3rd May 2008 when Bury won 2-0; now why does that game ring a bell...............................? :o:o:o No reflection on him, I hasten to add

Decent reputation; welcome on board Mr Belford..............24, with a decent amount of experience at our level. :D

all this guff about Dawber not being on a pro contract, does it matter? does that stop him from playing? if so why is he on the bench if he cant come on?

4 keepers before the new year is that a record? Then 3 in a week could be!

carpon 29-12-2012 02:58

Re: Seasonal Emergency!

Having watched him (Belford) a few times...he's a very good keeper at this level...

Other option...

Throw an 18 year old in for a league debut at a game..... where we'll play in front of a hostile 6-7k+ plus....with a makeshift defence in front of him??? Where we may take a hiding???

Destroy the lad's confidence????:confused::confused::confused:

Dawber may play a blinder (if played) , but I can understand Leam's reasoning!!

Get 50+ points on the board ( & SAFE ) then blood talent.:o

Belford confirmed - ASFC News Story > 5159 - lots of fiddly paperwork and whatnot for these emergency loans, hence the late arrival (just ask Mr. T!)

To clarify the Dawber situation I believe that the management are very keen to give him a pro deal (and have been for some time) BUT if he signs as a pro then the club aren't allowed to bring in an emergency loan, which would only leave Dawber available... and as we've seen in recent weeks it's probably a good idea to have two keepers available!

Very good point made by Dan about if Dawber signed Pro deal we would be unable to loan another emergency keeper.
With Belford returning to Bury on Jan. 3rd it means we will still be requiring a goalkeeper
Belford joins Accy Stanley

Hi, Chesterfield fan here!

Belford was Bury's goalie that we ended up in the papers for one of our idiot fans running onto the pitch and decking ... should make things even more interesting ...

Re: Seasonal Emergency!

to answer to Nige b, i dont think we will ever beat 3 keepers in one day.

20/8/2005 away v cambridge united, Jones jacked midweek, Gallagher was signed and a lad called harrison, gallagher didn't turn up harrison was on the bench bertrand bossu played in goal, that was a disaster he couldn't catch a cold, all three never played again,
in came randolph all history

smudgie 29-12-2012 19:21

Re: Seasonal Emergency!

For what its worth, Belford did nothing wrong today.

He looked gutted at the final whistle, so fair play to the lad.
