Tough game, but really should have been three up at half-time ,rommy missed from two yards and was later filling in at right back.Linney also went off with a bad knock.
Looking forward to journey home,it's ****ing down !!!!

Re: Argyle match thread

A workmanlike performance and a draw was probably a fair result. Both teams had good chances. Beattie was a handful for the Plymouth defence, and he seemed to be doing good work in encouraging the others. I thought Marcus Carver was impressive when he came on - he is fast and certainly lets defenders know he is there. I was pleased to see Charlie Barnett back; I thought he played well. I was a bit mystified by Wilson being used on the left side of midfield. I would have preferred to see Moly there. In the first half especially, Craig Lindfield was a threat down the right wing. He was the victim of a foul that went unpenalised. Yet one of the most blatant dives I have ever seen resulted in a free kick to Plymouth in an identical position.

I have to mention one worry. It seemed that time-wasting was a deliberate tactic by Stanley this afternoon with Belford being the main culprit. I have never associated Stanley with such a tactic, and it was not pleasant to watch. It certainly led to a reaction by Plymouth fans, and unfortunately they reacted that way for genuine injuries.

Agree about the time wasting and that Belford was the main culprit almost from the beginning of the match. Until Hunt's injury I thought Plymouth were there for the taking but after that Stanley seemed to settle for the draw. I would have liked to see a bit more ambition and thought that although Carver let defenders know he was around with his pace he still seems a bit lightweight for this level of football at the moment. Thought Beattie was a handful and that Lindfield had a good game on the right before both injuries but as someone who doesn't get to see Stanley much at the moment we look desperate for somebody to get hold of the ball in midfield.

Plymouth fans mostly seem to agree that we outfought and out footballed them for most of the game but they also mostly took exception to our time wasting and play acting. I hope we don't go down that road even when we are desperate to get points on the board. This is what new manager Keith Hill had to say about where things had gone wrong at Spotland, and where plenty of their fans were fed up with Coley and Jimmy's seeming endorsement of a lack of discipline, rather than the points lost recently:-

“It is quite evident – without me being suggestive and having ex-managers phoning me up and saying ‘What are you doing slagging me off? – that a lot of the foundations we laid have been undone.
“There’s an identity I believed was Rochdale Football Club and I want to recreate that identity in my own image again.
“We created an identity and also created a self respect that was endorsed by other clubs up and down the country.
“I am looking bring back that self respect and to win back the respect from other clubs for the way we do things.”

Does this mean that Mr Hill wants to unload all the ex Stanley players? If so, I won't disagree to Phil Edwards and Terry Gornell returning.

Whilst it appears our lads are being critised by the whole of Plymouth and the Argyle fans, as usual they don't let the facts get in the way of a good moan!!

1) in the first few minutes Linny was smashed last by an Argyle player who was correctly yellow carded. Craig was fouled numerous times during the game as was withdrawndue to injury. Left Plymouth on crutches to keep the weight off his leg
2) Luke Joyce onley received a nasty blow to the head, but supposedly is feigning injury.
3) We loose a player to an accidential clash, but he needs 10 mins of on pitch treatment from doctors and paramedics before being transfered to hospital. Of course at that stage we just what to get through the game and find out how our player, their team mate is. we hardly are likely to be rushing and risking making a mistake are we??
4) other knocks and bangs to contend with.

5) No yellow cards to in the eyes of the referee, we did nothing wrong!! Yet Plymouth had 2 booked.
We'll get through this under the leadership of Leam, who once again kept his dignity and composure, and with a little big of luck Beatts could have nicked 3 points in the last minute:)

Thought we controlled large parts of the game and our team selection looked to give us a bit more in terms of experience.I thought putting liddle in was a good move,he did a job on there dangerous right winger, whilst the new lad give him cover to get forward, which he did on numerous occasions.
Same with Linney, who was giving us width, and playing well, until he was subject to a few iffy tackles.
Not really a fan of 4-4-2 away from home, but it did pin them back in the first half,But I feel better teams will punish us,as it left us light in the middle.
Then again,it's a clean sheet, which is the foundation for a result, and the centre backs were solid.
Hunts and linneys injuries upset the balance, but we showed a lot of heart.
The acci huddle at the start of the game, shows there is a desire and togetherness, which hopefully will carry us thro the next couple of difficult games.
Regarding young carver,I think he's one for the future, although you can't fault his attitude.
I would still like to see Grey being given a chance,we beat blackburn,3-0 on Thursday (sunny played for them),and he scored two and carver one,so he could be a bit of a trump card.
Meant Dunny !!!!!

He's on the payroll!!

Serving a 6 game ban from memory.

Could easily have got a 2nd yellow in the Rahubka incident for feigning injury!! Seems our "friends" in Plymouth have selective memories when to comes to such things!!:(

Is it just coincidence that both of our games v plymouth had more than their fair share of controversy, albeit for different reasons, & were presided over by the same referee?

That's all absolutely correct, Mark. But it still seemed that we were guilty of deliberate time wasting. As I said in my original post, it was unfortunate that the Plymouth fans got onto us when the injuries were genuine. But as Lost in Cornwall said, Belford was absurdly slow from the very start. And we wasted time, deliberately it seemed, taking throw ins and free kicks. To me, and at least one other Stanley supporter, it did not look good.

Agree RR,but once we lost key players, and they started to get a foot hold in the game,it was obvious we would settle for a point, and these things happen.
Slowing the game down upsets there momentum and frustrates them,so job done really, not pretty, but effective, and a few teams have done it to us

Of course. My point all along has been that we wasted time from the start. Belford took far too long to take goal kicks from the second minute. My issue is not about what happened after we lost key players - it's about what was going on in the first half. It seemed to me - and others - that we had settled for a point from the outset. It was the length of time that was being taken over free kicks, goal kicks and throw ins that, again to me, was obvious - and it was certainly obvious to the Plymouth fans. Of course, I may have been mistaken in what I saw. In my very first post, I explained my concern - and Lost in Cornwall agreed.

Stanley is in desperate need of points to survive in the league,
when we do well and get a point albeit by protecting that point by the tactics of time wasting,
we should be applauding,
if we were 1 nil up in a cup game and took the ball into a corner of the pitch to run the clock down, we would not be complaining, every point we get is as vital as that cup game scenario
