Morecambe match thread
All the talk about formations, subs and the state of the pitch at York (which looked fine to me) leaves me cold. If we don't up our game on Friday, Redshaw, Ellison and co. will not be as inept in front of goal as York were. Leam has said he encourages the players to express themselves with confidence in footballing terms, but that was entirely lacking on Saturday. Panicky defending when under pressure and failure to keep possession in midfield resulted in wave after wave of York attacks which should have seen then 3 or 4 goals up at half time. Linganzi was sorely missed but surely we can at least manage a semblance of pass and move to give the man in possession an outlet and make progress upfield without the big heave ho? Passion we have in abundance but that's not going to be enough without a lot more quality this time. We are certainly capable of playing good enough football if we keep our heads.

Re: Morecambe match thread
The pitch excuse is just bull, twas the same fer both sides n have seen far worse surfaces than that at the crown in seasons past.
|
Re: Morecambe match thread
Any news on the availability of Linganzi and Jeffers?
|
Re: Morecambe match thread
Dunno, was told on sat jeffers is a possible, Hope so.
|
Re: Morecambe match thread
Acci will be aware of Morecambe's strengths and weaknesses, and visa versa.Expect a fast end to end game, hopefully wit the right result.
Come on Cashy, although it looked ok from the sidelines, both sides said the pitch was crap. They weren't exactly building from the back, nice one touch pass and moving etc..,more get it forward as quick as possible and contest the second balls(which they did extremely well),and pin us back. Suspect Fridays game will be similar, only us playing the York/home side roll of pressing. Hopefully a early goal will settle us down, and we keep it tight at the back. Got a feeling Beattie will score a worldy, that's what class players do KTF |
Re: Morecambe match thread
Am not disputing what both sides said about pitch, But both sides had to play on it, York adapted much better n us, simple fact.
|
Re: Morecambe match thread
Agree on that cashy, thought there young right back(on loan from Blackburn)had a very good game--hope Leam took note !!!!

and we did the same to Wimblebob and Dodgy Haircut the other week. It was no surprise that York did a 89 minute job on us, when you're down the bottom with a handful of games left you throw everything at a game - particularly when you have a large noisy crowd behind you. What on earth could we achieve with a large crowd! |
Re: Morecambe match thread
They weren't bad, but not as noisy as stanleys ultras.;) So don't see that point rob?

Nice un Leemus, This game is a monster must win fer us.:)

It might well be that our manager selects a team with a good splattering of our younger squad players to see how they perform against a team fighting to save relegation. On the other hand he might field our strongest team in respect of those other teams in the relegation battle. Whichever team is selected this is one game when some of us may have a sneaking wish for a result that aids Accy in its fight to stay in the league. But then again.......:confused::confused: |
Re: Morecambe match thread
Looking forward to it, makes it more interesting as its a must win.
|
Re: Morecambe match thread
I'm on board again and looking forward to it. I'm expecting another good atmosphere behind the goal.

Re: Morecambe match thread
Port Vale have surprisingly dropped a point to the Shots tonight:eek: Making the 3 pts friday night n even bigger must,in my view.;)
|
Re: Morecambe match thread
One final big 90 minutes from the players required on Friday, Leam needs to get them up for this to give every last breathe and ounce of strength.

Read somewhere that in situations of 'tight-finishes' where and whatever these happen to be, that there is always one protagonist involved, however strong or powerful they appear to be at the time, who always find the pressures of the struggle to prove too much to handle and through this fail to stay the course !.
We all have a fair idea where the strengths and weaknesses of our Team lie...the good run of form at the right time...a great Team spirit, and those twin elusive elements of a bit of good luck and the run of the ball....for a change ?. How do these match up to the factors which make the Barnets and Torquays etc of the League tick ? . Do the Red's have enough to ensure that they won'tbe the one's to buckle under the pressure ?. This holding of the nerve is I propose one of the central issues for the Stanley at this crucial time and I for one will be observing this with interest on Friday night !.. With fingers and everything else crossed ! |

for my twopennoth, I reckon the final Saturday will decide the fate of ourselves and others, although Wimbledon & Torquay are my bet for the drop to a highly competitive Conf ( wish they would make it Division 3 but Football League aren't much at inovation ).

The good thing i reckon about this friday night match, If we win, it really rakes up the pressure on those involved in sats matches, which may just help a little, but we gotta win it first.

Re: Morecambe match thread
And this guy thinks so too ;)
Chairman thanks supporters Friday 12th Apr 2013 Backing has been incredible Accrington Stanley Chairman Peter Marsden has given his thanks to the clubs fans for their support this season, and in particular over the last few matches. "We have pulled off some great results late on in games over the last three fixtures, and while we give Leam and the lads the credit they deserve I think we also have to make special mention of our supporters who have been incredible this season. "I was stood with our fans at York on Saturday and the passion and the noise that was generated throughout the game was amazing. :theband: "We have three massive games left starting this Friday night against Morecambe, it would be fantastic if we could get a bumper crowd down to ensure an electric atmosphere and to cheer our lads on to what would be a huge win and a big step towards ensuring our future in the Football League." :) :) :) |
Re: Morecambe match thread
Morecambe will be up for it tonight , so its up to Stanley to pull out all stops and show them that we mean business .Don't let them think we waiting till added time , get in there with all guns blazing. As for the rest of us , we need to get behind Leam and the team , let em know we are there , sing loud and proud .Now all thats left to say is BRING EM ON!!!

Brilliant win, well done everyone. Pressures on the others now.

Fantastic. Wish I could have been there.
|
Re: Morecambe match thread
Stanley's passion was too much for the Shrimps. Linganzi, MOM, was immense, and with the Clayton End rocking it was a fantastic night. OK, we have played better and lost this season, but the lads built up a real head of steam tonight.
|
Re: Morecambe match thread
Agree wi redraine bit slow outa the blocks tonight, but built a good head of steam up, The fans played there part, the team worked its nuts off, cannot remember a real threat from Morecambe tonight. Well done all.:):):):):D Linganzi deserved MoM, Aldred was superb also imho.
|
Re: Morecambe match thread
Great game
as brilliant Linghazi was as poor the referee/linesmen were. lots of great effort - tireless running from quite a few players. |
Re: Morecambe match thread
SAFE.
Well done Leam and the players. |

Re: Morecambe match thread
Having had to sit in work all night nervously looking at the Beeb website, how happy I am to see that scoreline. I do not care if it was scrappy, all I care about are 3 points towards safety (I will not say safe yet until it is mathematically possible, however, the goal difference is coming down rapidly) and a clean sheet to boot. Well done the team and the management. Lets hope we can keep hold of Linganzi and others to form the basis of a decent team next season (I nclude Franny Jeffers and James Beattie in that because I believe they have much to offer). Waiting now for the results tomorrow, Torquay v Barnet especially. Cannot see York getting anything from Northampton and I believe Aldershot will be lucky to get anymore than 2 points from their next 2 games, but on the other hand, I cannot see Accy winnning in Bristol next week. It is still in the balance for me.
|
Re: Morecambe match thread
Whatever happens tomorrow, everybody currently below us will still theoretically be able to get to 52 points at least, though I don't think any of them will. As it stands, though, it is mathematically possible that two teams could be relegated with 54 and 55 points!
|
Re: Morecambe match thread
Don't know how he played tonight but 2 immense goals in his last 2 games, lots of credit to Murph. He may not be the best player but he must have had his head and heart in both games. Well done lad.

Re: Morecambe match thread
Dire game bereft of any quality - we won by a scuffed free kick bouncing off an unaware player and an opposition defence parting like the Red Sea ... and I couldn't be happier!
Playing good football is a luxury for a club like ours, I'd rather be lucky than good any day of the week! |
Re: Morecambe match thread
I do think that the flare played a huge part in the second goal
That smoke was irritating to the eyes and nose Bit of an own goal by the morecambe fan who threw it! |

Re: Morecambe match thread
On the Morcambe forum they were talking about trouble in the ground and after on the way to the station. They complained about some chanting by some of their idiot fans and some of their fans being set upon afterwards. They were not blaming Stanley fans but said they were Blackburn/Burnley yobs.

Re: Morecambe match thread
I was impressed by the almost-endless chanting and dancing from the group of young lads at the front of the Clayton End seats, just in front of the owd codgers. Credit to the lads; it was a pleasure to see them. And, if their presence was a result of the commercial department's activities, well done to them too!
|
Re: Morecambe match thread
Thought we were edgy, particularly at the back, for the first 20 minutes or so. This was perhaps understandable with so much at stake and, whilst we all would love to see lots of free flowing football, I wasn't expecting a game for the purist. Three points for us and a clean sheet was a good night's work and we'll leave the one touch fast football for another time!
Linganzi was immense, Aldred also very solid and they'd done their homework on Molyneux as he was denied space on the ball. Just been checking the full list of remaining fixtures for all clubs and don't reckon we're safe just yet, however 4 or 5 clubs would gladly swap places with us! |
Re: Morecambe match thread
:egged: The match was not flush with outstanding football but our boys did the job asked of them by Leam..which was to get the three points on the night. I fully agree with comments about Amine being the MOM.:mosher: He was superb in midfield and as I said last week he was sorely missed at York. I thought that Tom Aldred:mosher: was super too, he just gets better and better and is very consistent. A bit like Rob Atkinson in the first half of the season. Chubbs played well too and it is this increase in consistency down the centre of our line up that has allowed us to get some form back. Moly and Wilson tried to get things going down the left but it didn't quite come off for them tonight. Boco was once again totally tireless in his running exemplified by his role in our second goal. Rommy has played a lot of matches this season and despite looking a bit tired late on at York and last night he still gave his all...STANLEY SPIRIT!!! Podge worked hard as did the whole team indeed! Also it would seem that we have turned the corner as far as "getting a lucky break" is concerned. eg. Peter Murphy didn't know much about his goal but he was up there in the right position causing problems for their defence. Peter had a couple of great runs in the second half cutting in from the right wing which could have easily yielded another goal.
So well done to Leam and the team. Also well done to the fans who turned out in excellent numbers. :do-one:The Clayton End was rocking just like a couple of years ago and earlier.:theband: Yes, we will all be watching the results today and hoping they go our way. As Leam keeps saying though, let's just focus on our own results and we should go to Bristol next week with enough confidence that we can come home with a positive result. (I really do hope though that we can keep our most promising players and not have our squad totally dismantled like two years ago after our play off season!) Jack B will be smiling up there....:):):) ON STANLEY ON:theband: |
Re: Morecambe match thread
You'll understand that this hurts for me to admit, but after the first goal we just didn't want it enough and your guys ran out worthy winners.
The game was devoid of any constructive football but at least you got the result wanted to probably stay up. The Shots fans are not at all happy with our Managers pre match comments about wanting you to stay up at the expense of a Southern based team.....but tough!:) Thought the lad from Blackburn was immense and as for Molyneax, it sounds as though he's on his way to the Fylde coast( no doubt for the money) if you believe the rumours coming from the Cod army! Our revenge is long overdue.....:( |
Re: Morecambe match thread
its nice to go into a season knowing that there are some guaranteed points :)

Re: Morecambe match thread
After watching Stanley play at York last Sat , I thought last nights match was brill . The ref was rather one sided to say the least , but overall we got the points we deserved.Well done Leam and the team. I hope the number of Stanley fans there , return .

|
Re: Morecambe match thread
The postponed game is a shame, but out of the other key games Burton, N'ton and Exeter all need to win.
Wycombe are the only one with nowt to play for, Barnet win or draw would have meant a step closer to safety. I reckon 2 draws will do it. |
