Beattie: Yes or No?
Do you think Stanley play better with or without Beattie in the team?
I have the opinion that we play much better without Beattie and seem to be strongly at odds with others, just want to see what the general opinion is. |
Re: Beattie: Yes or No?
From the start? No.
On the bench, to give us something different for the last 30 mins or to nick a goal, 100% Yes. |

Re: Beattie: Yes or No?
Agree with the opposition, Accybeme.
No-one player can be blamed for Stanley's poor performances this season. Beattie was nowhere to be seen at Torquay and Oxford when the rot set in. Equally, no one player can guarantee to make Stanley play as well as they have been doing lately. They all contribute to the team performances, some more or less on different days. Singling out Beattie for criticism says more about unreasonably high expectations of an ex-Premier league player who, we all know, is reaching the end of his playing career. But used judiciously, and not as you would use a willing all-day runner like Amond, the likes of Beattie surely can bring a touch of experience and guile that the younger players will benefit from. |
Re: Beattie: Yes or No?
Yes to Beattie. Has real quality which is often so short at league 2 level.
|
Re: Beattie: Yes or No?
The fact that Stanley have an ex England international on their books gives the club publicity and the more of that the better! Ok so maybe he's a passenger sometimes but i for one always believe that while he's on the pitch he's "gonna score a goal"!
And i've been told that he doesn't take a penny from the club for his efforts.:) |
Re: Beattie: Yes or No?
:) As i said on the B/Rovers thread the guy's got class and the young'ns can only benifit from his experience :)

Re: Beattie: Yes or No?
An absolute no brainer for me.....A resounding Yes for Beattie.
Bags of experience, he's probably lost a lot of his pace, but he still weighs in with crucial goals. In our final two games he may provide another crucial goal or two. Playing him from the start....No......however used as an impact sub when we're chasing a result or trying to see one out....what better weapon to throw on. At this level he probably causes opposition defenders increased worry, he still knows where the onion bag is and will probably be passing on valuable knowledge to the younger lads !!! And I've also been told he's playing for next to nothing (as posted earlier ) And when it comes to attracting young players to the club, if we can retain the services of the likes of Beattie, Jeffers & Hunt for next season, what a great selling point / advert for the club Leam has.. |

We will be forever grateful for his goals, but must now be even more so for his commitment to his mate Leam, & his help with our youngsters. This is a fine example of 'giving back to the game', as much as Becks supposedly forgoing his salary at PSG. Different level, I know, but even greater a gift. Even more so, no publicity. |
Re: Beattie: Yes or No?
:) Its true KiTChener apart from exspences which the club pays for and the same can be said of Jeffers :)
|
Re: Beattie: Yes or No?
Fair play to Beattie if it's true.
Top man :) |

Re: Beattie: Yes or No?
its been common knowledge, since the news of not paying the players wages the other week, that Beattie and Jeffers are supposedly on expenses only deals.
Judged purely on what he offers to the first XI I wouldn't play Beattie. Not to detract from him at all as he still has qualities if you play to them, but he doesn't suit our game and we play worse with him in the starting line-up. If he's here for a coaching role as well then fantastic and he deserves to be paid whatever that role is worth. He seems to be a top fella, talks well, charitable, approachable, in it for the right reasons etc, but unless we're building a team to play to his strengths then I wouldn't be offering a playing contract in its own rights. Jeffers came here for a shop window and won't have done himself any favours due to his unfortunate injury. I think we have seen enough to know that he is still more than capable but his fitness would be a concern to offer anything more than a pay as you play. |
Re: Beattie: Yes or No?
Many years ago, when I was on my OE to the UK, I had the pleasure of watching George Best make his debut for Fulham (v Bristol Rovers or Blackburn I think). Also in the team that day was Rodney Marsh and one Bobby Moore. The rest of Fulham were average 2nd div. players (old div 2). Fulham scraped home 1-0 (George Best bungled free kick that bounced over the diving keeper). Best , Moore and Marsh had way to much class for their team mates who really weren't reading of the same page. As a result, I thought Fulham looked mediocre at best, (no pun intended.) It would not surprise me if Beattie is in a similar situation-just alittle to 'street wise' for the rest of the team. Of course I don't have the benefit of having watched him play, but thats my 2 cents worth.
He should stay. |
Re: Beattie: Yes or No?
Well it looks like I’m more or less isolated on this one; my opinion is based on the team’s performances and was never an attack on his meritorious qualities

Re: Beattie: Yes or No?
If he is playing for expenses, he's worth having to stick on for the last 10 minutes of the game. If the ball falls to him in the box he'll put it away.
Outside of the penalty box the man doesn't exist. |
Re: Beattie: Yes or No?
Jeffers coming on looks like ........:) oops wrong thread.

Re: Beattie: Yes or No?
For my twopenneth, I would like both JB and FJ to stay at Stanley if we can afford them and say thanks for all the help and advice. The names themselves should frighten enough other players in this league, and I believe they have a lot to offer. JB should be Leam's assistant but keep his playing registration (as I think Leam has). No reason why Franny Jeffers can't do the same, help the younger lads by passing on their knowledge of the game.

Re: Beattie: Yes or No?
I agree with your point, some teams and players will fear the reputation and their name and focus so much on stopping them, it will allow our other players the freedom to blossom.
And it raises the clubs profile. I can see Jeffers getting another shot at a league 1 club on decent wages (£1k a week). 32 is no age to restrict yourself to league 2 if you have the ability to play at a higher level and get one more decent pay day. |

Re: Beattie: Yes or No?
IMO i think Beattie's body langauage and general demeanour in the last couple of games suggests that even he has realised his contribution to the team is so limited it may be time to 'hang-em-up'
I would be surprised if we see him in an Acccy shirt again |

Top players/forwards know were they want the pass and most are reluctant to try and turn a bad ball into a good one(tevez is the obvious exception). Playing in the lower leagues you simply cant operate like this as the quality of play/passing isnt as good(thats why some players get 100k a week and some get £200). He still has a lot to offer in terms of ability,he just has to adapt to the standard of league two play. By all accounts hes a really good pro to have around the dressing room. |
