The Au-revoir Oxford Thread !!.
With all the excitement going on around me, as far as The Reds are concerned anyway !,and being mysteriously stimulated by my fourth shot of Absolut Vodka and Tonic I'm sure that I'll be forgiven if I quote some words from the seventeenth century poet Nahum Tate !!...
' Come, Come ye Sons of Art...( And Accymad !). Come, Come away !. Tune all your voices..your instruments play, To celebrate..and celebrate this Triumphant Day' Now I'm not suggesting for one moment that this might be altogether suitable for the magnificent Ultras to learn in time to welcome our Team onto the Pitch tomorrow afternoon but this quaintly old-fashioned exhortation does carry within it all that we need to do to enthuse Leam and the Lads to carry on with the task of annihilating Oxford United ...Raise our voices..Bang THE Drum....and celebrate our Team's achievements on what cannot fail to be a truly Triumphant Day !. See youthere ??. |

I thought the team let themselves down today, but the Ultras were great. I know we were safe but I still expected a better performance. Jeffers and Molyneux need to take a chill pill.

Why change the goalie at half time ? was Paul injured, I thought he may have stopped the first goal.
|
Re: The Au-revoir Oxford Thread !!.
Unless Rachubka was injured, subbing him at half time was a ridiculous idea. It sends out the wrong message to the team, supporters and opposition - basically 'we don't care about the result, we are treating this game as a friendly'. Not that the first half performance was fantastic, but the second half was dismal, and subbing the keeper so someone can have a half of football killed it. It's an insult to all the supporters who turned up today for what should have been a great finale to an exciting season. Even if we had lost, at least we should look like we are competing.
Of course, if he was injured, all the above is nonsense...:) Apart from today, I've become hooked again on the Stanley rolercoaster. Bought my first season ticket in 14 seasons watching them, I'm optimistic about the future if we can keep hold of a few players! |
Re: The Au-revoir Oxford Thread !!.
Oh dear! Leam and Joyce set the tone for the afternoon by bringing their kiddies onto the pitch BEFORE kick off. I didn't matter for me as I have had enough of intense, nerve racking games for one season, thank you very much, but I can understand those who felt a bit let down today. Not that it mattered, but I thought Winnard, Murphy, Liddle and Amond were all abysmal today, and It wouldn't worry me one bit if they were not in Leam's plans for next season. We won't move forwards next season unless we can improve the quality in their positions. I don't want to end on a sour note, though, and I was hypocritically singing for Peter Murphy at the finish along with the Ultras, who got a well deserved clap from the Oxford keeper at the final whistle.

Re: The Au-revoir Oxford Thread !!.
See you next season guys, onwards and upwards hopefully.
Have a great summer and please, get some decent cider in for next season :-) |

I agree with Tom D. If Rachubka wasn't injured, then replacing him with someone who clearly didn't look good enough was an insult to the fans. Made me wonder if I'd done the right thing renewing my season ticket!

Re: The Au-revoir Oxford Thread !!.
Why Dawber and not Bav's?
I can understand why Leam did it if it was to give the lad more experience, when else can he blood the lad and not risk losing meaningful points? I also understand the argument it sent out the wrong message. What was Murphys foul for the penalty like? |
Re: The Au-revoir Oxford Thread !!.
No argument from me Stonewall penalty in my book, Murphy was just very clumsy. Twas opposite end of ground, but i'd said penalty before the ref pointed.

Re: The Au-revoir Oxford Thread !!.
Bavs is sadly still under the specialist and injured:(

Idiotic, mindless, reckless, stupid, amateurish. For me you can take your pick from any of those words. Like you, from where I was sat in the Clayton end of the main stand, I was just gobsmacked about the sheer stupidity of that challenge. Also his passing was woeful for the entirety of the game. I don't really rate Murphy and his performance today only emphasised why I'm of that opinion. Too many players failed to put any effort in today. "Dead Rubber" it may have been. Too many players looked like they weren't interested with their minds elsewhere. Probably thinking about if they'd packed everything in their suitcases for their Jollies. Only players to come out of that game with any credit for me...Linganzi, ( who was rightfully named M.O.M. ) Boco, who never stopped running and Joyce who tried very hard alongside Linganzi. I can understand the thinking behind blooding young Dawber, but Leam may have been better served by throwing him on if we'd been winning the game.:( |
Re: The Au-revoir Oxford Thread !!.
To be honest carpon, i wouldn't shed any tears if he moves on. I'm of the same opinion as you.;)

Im unsure about Murphy. He has the right attitude and determination to make it as a football league player, but he lacks the concentration and consistency. Next season may be make or break for the lad. I doubt there are any other league teams who would want him on his current form and ability. 12 months is a long time, he has improved alot since his first appearance for Stanley, and lets hope next season Murphy blossoms into a grounded football league player who is going places. |
Re: The Au-revoir Oxford Thread !!.
Rachubka felt his groin at half time, so that explains the substitution. According to leam on fishy.

Re: The Au-revoir Oxford Thread !!.
Typical end of season game, but again no one has given Oxford any credit.
They are a good team, and in rigg, potter, smalley and constable have a front four as good as any team. Good solid back four and two tough centre mids and there keeper was excellent. Anyone who thought they would roll over must be bonkers!. We were very disjointed and couldn't get going, although we contained them easily for long periods. Linganzi was our stand out player in possession, but his misplaced pass caused the first goal and it killed us. Molly's free kick that sailed over the clayton end (with plenty to spare!),summed up our afternoon, The second goal was a pen,Murph just got the wrong side of him,and the third was a joke,at least five yards offside. Doesn't matter though, Acci are safe, unlike poor Barnet |
Re: The Au-revoir Oxford Thread !!.
To be brutally honest regarding Murphy, It's not like he's a young kid learning the ropes. He's what can be regarded as a seasoned "professional", i.e. he's had more than enough time ( and chances ) to prove his worth.
Wrong side or not F19, are you advocating that what he did was his only option ??? I didn't see what he ( for me...inexplicably ) did as being the last option, i.e. bundle their forward to the deck and give a very avoidable penalty away !!! I can't fault the lad for effort. This game is about opinions, mine is, that, despite his effort, Murphy is not League 2 Standard. You can't carry passengers, whatever level you play the game at. Sadly, I think Murphy is out of his depth at L2 level.:( |
Re: The Au-revoir Oxford Thread !!.
Murphy seemed quite decent at centre back, wasn't terrible at centre mid but has scared the beejeezus out of me at right back.
Like others I rate his effort and determination and he is as close to a club man as we have got. Depending on his salary expectations he is a stayer for me. You've got to have versatility and you've got to have versatility, balance to the squad. And just like Moly, he has chipped in with some crucial goals this season. There are players I'd play in front of him but if he is accepting of a squad role and having to win his place then its a definite thumbs up |

Re: The Au-revoir Oxford Thread !!.
I think this game more than any showed that molly has been playing for himself and not the team.
He's caught the eyes of scouts and seems to have done enough to ssecure a move away. He was rubbish. Fair enough it is the end of the season game but he's been far too selfish with his passing when he has had the ball. This has been a running saga throughout the year with him. Amin, rommy, Joyce put in a very solid shift. Murphy was very unlucky at times and at times poor. I just hope next season they can retain some of the more team players though sadly I do think Amin and rommy have played their last games for accy as have a few others. It would be unfair to leave rachubkas name out as he's come in and aside from a few games been very good too. |

Not so long since Murph was being hailed as our star player (York Game) a bad performance and outcome the hatchets, Oxford were a better team on a day when points were irrelevant although with the bad tempered aggression shown one would have been forgiven thinking it was a do or die match, M.O.T.M. Amine Linganzi has been a revelation since his first game for us and I would be amazed if we could hold on to him

Well my two pence worth....
As others have said we where well beaten, but you know what for the first time this season (apart from the JPT Game) I wasnt actually that bothard. Our final game was last week really and the players looked like they knew it too. Murphy, Liddle & Podge where all very poor agreed. Oxford are alot better team than their league position suggests and for me,will be Top 6 next season. Had a great night in the clubhouse after the match, was brilliant to see all the players in there with Leam and the staff. Their team spirit seems top notch and after chatting with Hatfield, Beattie and Molyneux they all wish the season was starting now!! I can only hope Leam can keep the majority of the lads together, as for me, (not including yesterday) , we could be a top 8 side. Now....... when are the fixtures out :) |
Re: The Au-revoir Oxford Thread !!.
Agree 100% smudgie,at last some praise for a bloody good Oxford team, who really should be at least in the play-offs,our fullbacks had there hands full because they were up against two class wingers in Rigg and Potter
|
Re: The Au-revoir Oxford Thread !!.
Oxford did play well, We just never turned up fact. Potter was tricky, thankfully his final ball was crap most of the afternoon.
|
Re: The Au-revoir Oxford Thread !!.
Most of our first and final balls were crap as well :)

Yes it was lacklustre and would have disappointed a newcomer to the Storefirst Stadium expecting a fiery finish to the season. Yet somehow I enjoyed just being there as usual, and smiling at the efforts of the 'get it up t'field' lads in the main Stand who will just never learn !!. Finally, Alfred.E. reminded me, in one of my few lucid moments late last night, that I should forget ever taking on the role of Thread-starter again !!..as whatever junk I scribble in this capacity alsays seems to hang a very large albatross around the necks of The Reds, making their task an uphill one before they start !!....SO ??????. Re: The Au-revoir Oxford Thread !!.
I thought we were ok in the first half; the problems seemed to arise in the second half.
Some specific comments. I know that young Dawber has his admirers but his 45-minute cameo gave me cause for concern. I thought it was a certain penalty when he brought down the Oxford player - a poor decision by the referee. I feel it is essential that Dawber is loaned out to get some match practice at the start of next season. I agree that the very public exchange of views between Jeffers and Moly was not particularly edifying. I am sure that Jeffers was telling Moly not to be so selfish and he was right to do so. A word about Michael Liddle. Yes, he found the winger a real handful yesterday - just as many full backs would have done. But he stuck to his task and when the opportunity arose his distribution was ok. To put him in the same category as Peter Murphy seems unfair when Murphy's distribution was as woeful yesterday as it has been all season. Finally a word or two about Tom Aldred. I think he has been magnificent. I don't know if he has had a yellow card this season; if so, it can't be many. When I think about the number of cards and suspensions picked up by our centre backs in recent years (Hessey, Murdock, Kempson, even the mighty 'Sunbeds', and of course not forgetting Toto), then Aldred's achievement is all the greater and especially so in his partnership with Deano. |

I wouldent agree totally with that. The two people I brought yesterday have just ordered season tickets off the back of it. ALL of them would have known yesterday was meaningless and they would have been impressed with the atmosphere if nothing else. |
Re: The Au-revoir Oxford Thread !!.
Thats great to hear, but do yeh honestly think that display will encourage the majority of walk ons? cos i don't.
|
Re: The Au-revoir Oxford Thread !!.
Not in terms of the display.... No.
BUT with the state Rovers are in, many football fans in the area are looking for an alternative. The two I brought yesterday said exactly that. We have a great friendly little club, with a good atmosphere and now with reasonable prices to attract the casual fan. I firmly believe the performance yesterday will only influence a small percentage. |

Also Rossendale and the Ribble Valley are areas of 60,000+ people where we are the nearest football league club. Let's sell it as "Real Lancashire Football" free from the primma donnas and extortionate prices that permeate the upper echelons of the game. We are unique in that we are the only football league club that still retains the friendliness and gritty realism of non-league. That's our selling point to a neutral. :) |
Re: The Au-revoir Oxford Thread !!.
Been banging on about this for ages...thanks to the antics of the chicken farmers, new areas of opportunity have opened up for us! I was having a pint in Blackburn while changing trains on my way back from a match recently; the landlord told me he was a lifelong but disillusioned Rovers fan who'd gone with his lad to the Stanley a few times and was now going to get season tickets, as they'd enjoyed it so much...and that was before the new low prices were announced!
.. There's lots of potential fans out there - let's go for 'em! |
