It's official, the rumors are true Peter Murphy is leaving Stanley for Wycombe Wanderers, he will join the club on July 1st.

Big surprise for me.

Thought he was nailed on for Tranmere.

His agent has been bigging him up since Christmas saying he's been doing extra fitness training off his own back as they're looking for him to take the next step on his career, aiming for Championship level -so he signs for Wycombe. Strange move, although must think Wycombe's ambitition matches his!

I thought he'd sign for a League 1 club especially Chesterfield, very surprised that he's signed for a team that almost went down last season.

League 1? yer joking Tom, cant fault his effort/workrate but his consistency n the like, hes in the right division imho.

Re: Murphy to join Wycombe Wanderers

I just thought a higher club came in for him, that's why I thought he was leaving Stanley thought maybe Chesterfield would sign him. Murphy signing with a team who are recovering from a relegation battle is a bit of risky move for me. Though in league 2 anything can happen. One minute you do good, next minute your slipping and so on.

I can guarantee one thing, Murphy will probably score against us.

Think many of us thought that, Seems not, seems gone fer better money? fair play if thats the case, no arguement on that score. Never thought he was talented enough to get much higher though.:)

I reckon he thought the same, but the new manager at Tranmere isn't who he expected it to be.:)

We'll just have to hope that they substitute him on 89 minutes. :)

I wish the lad well. He's worked his socks off for us and we need somebody else to score the late goals. Must be money though because I don't see him making it higher than League 2.

Just an idea but why don't we find a striker or two who can score early goals

He is at best an average league 2 player, in all honesty he struggles to hold his own in league 2.
I hope he proves me wrong and goes all the way to the top of the game but I can't see it.

I would like to thank Peter for all his efforts at Stanley. I always seemed to be frustrated by Peter's inconsistent performances and feel that if he had produced his best more consistently then he could have been a real leader in the team. He scored important goals at the end of matches last season but this was often after he had played fairly indifferently. He proved to be quite a vesatile player the previous season when he had a spell at centre back and full back. Another frustrating thing about Peter is his temperament, often shooting his mouth off and falling foul of the referees and blaming others in the team when things went wrong around him.:dflam:
To finish really positively though, I will recount his real moment of heroism away against York two seasons ago, when he got his nose well splattered but played on very bravely and scored a trademark equalizer in the 90+third minute to give us an important draw!:mosher:
Thanks Peter and good luck in the future but please don't score against us!:do-one:
ps. We'll give you some stick if you play against us at The Crown!!!:mosher:

Is proccy still up for transfer? We could do with someone who can win a header in centre mid.
