It's official, the rumors are true Peter Murphy is leaving Stanley for Wycombe Wanderers, he will join the club on July 1st.

Re: Murphy to join Wycombe Wanderers
Big surprise for me.
Thought he was nailed on for Tranmere. |
Re: Murphy to join Wycombe Wanderers
Nah Tranmere want to improve.:D

Re: Murphy to join Wycombe Wanderers
His agent has been bigging him up since Christmas saying he's been doing extra fitness training off his own back as they're looking for him to take the next step on his career, aiming for Championship level -so he signs for Wycombe. Strange move, although must think Wycombe's ambitition matches his!

Re: Murphy to join Wycombe Wanderers
I thought he'd sign for a League 1 club especially Chesterfield, very surprised that he's signed for a team that almost went down last season.
|
Re: Murphy to join Wycombe Wanderers
League 1? yer joking Tom, cant fault his effort/workrate but his consistency n the like, hes in the right division imho.
|
Re: Murphy to join Wycombe Wanderers
I just thought a higher club came in for him, that's why I thought he was leaving Stanley thought maybe Chesterfield would sign him. Murphy signing with a team who are recovering from a relegation battle is a bit of risky move for me. Though in league 2 anything can happen. One minute you do good, next minute your slipping and so on.
I can guarantee one thing, Murphy will probably score against us. |
Re: Murphy to join Wycombe Wanderers
Think many of us thought that, Seems not, seems gone fer better money? fair play if thats the case, no arguement on that score. Never thought he was talented enough to get much higher though.:)

I wish the lad well. He's worked his socks off for us and we need somebody else to score the late goals. Must be money though because I don't see him making it higher than League 2.

Re: Murphy to join Wycombe Wanderers
He is at best an average league 2 player, in all honesty he struggles to hold his own in league 2.
I hope he proves me wrong and goes all the way to the top of the game but I can't see it. |
Re: Murphy to join Wycombe Wanderers
I would like to thank Peter for all his efforts at Stanley. I always seemed to be frustrated by Peter's inconsistent performances and feel that if he had produced his best more consistently then he could have been a real leader in the team. He scored important goals at the end of matches last season but this was often after he had played fairly indifferently. He proved to be quite a vesatile player the previous season when he had a spell at centre back and full back. Another frustrating thing about Peter is his temperament, often shooting his mouth off and falling foul of the referees and blaming others in the team when things went wrong around him.:dflam:
To finish really positively though, I will recount his real moment of heroism away against York two seasons ago, when he got his nose well splattered but played on very bravely and scored a trademark equalizer in the 90+third minute to give us an important draw!:mosher: Thanks Peter and good luck in the future but please don't score against us!:do-one: ps. We'll give you some stick if you play against us at The Crown!!!:mosher: |
Re: Murphy to join Wycombe Wanderers
Is proccy still up for transfer? We could do with someone who can win a header in centre mid.

Good player with a great attitude to football,he's a winner and will prove a asset to Wycombe, wish him all the best

Re: Murphy to join Wycombe Wanderers
I thought that last season he showed a greater deal of maturity than in previous years and his mouth didn't run away quite as often.
Merf was a great club player as he had grown up with the club and displayed a good deal of extra attitude that made up for his lack of technical talent. He is one of those players that every team needs a couple of but my concern for him now would be that his attitude and effort alone may not be enough at other clubs. All the best Peter. |
Re: Murphy to join Wycombe Wanderers
Do we not bother with transfer fees now and just let our better players go for nothing?
|
Re: Murphy to join Wycombe Wanderers
If they haven't got a contract signed we haven't got the choice of asking for money for them.

Another player on the transfer list is Ashley Grimes (possibly going to Cheltenham) but one of the reasons he joined us rather than them last year is he wanted to remain in the north west. |

Re: Murphy to join Wycombe Wanderers
Can,t see us paying for Proccy so it,s either a loan or he rips his contract up.

Re: Murphy to join Wycombe Wanderers
Peter scored the only goal in Wycombe's 1-0 win at Barnet yesterday:
