Re: Blackburn Tonight.
I was pleasantly surprised tonight with Stanley. Liked the right winger No7?
I think Stanley will be kicking themselves slightly as I think they played well and you could argue deserved to win. Having said that I thought Blackburn were woeful to be honest. Some poor defending on both sides but punished by some good finishing in particular Stanley's second! |

Re: Blackburn Tonight.
Great performance by the Reds they looked superior to a strong Rovers side and by the time Grey had slotted home the second Stanley goal the whole of the away stand were applauding the Reds
The adverse were the injury to Dawber and the one-sided performance of the Ref. Best performances: for the Reds Josh Windass and for Rovers Josh King biggest disappointment was the support at the Clayton End |
Re: Blackburn Tonight.
it's gotta be said accyberne - you're joshing, right ? I'll get me coat - - - -

Re: Blackburn Tonight.
Must have watched a different game, thought young Dawber showed massive potential.
Got the defenders playing from the back, very good kicking game, never saw him drop a ball. How many of our previous keepers have caught the ball, sprinted to the edge of the area and throw the ball 60 yards to start the move for the second goal. He only made one possible error all night,so to say he's not good enough is simply Rubbish. First goal,Tom had no need to put a challenge in ( could hear the keepers call from the halfway line ! ) the second Joycy got pressed ( although dean was the better option) The kid has massive potential and I predict in 12-18 months will play at an higher level |

Re: Blackburn Tonight.
Don't expect Dawbs to start a lot this season, but I am confident he won't let anybody down.
He will learn from errors and will make him a better keeper. He's defiantly got the basic tools, hence he's been on the radar of premier league clubs for a while. Let's be fair he got a better kicking game already than Joe Hart !! :) |

Re: Blackburn Tonight.
I thought the attendance looked 2500 really, the support from stanley fans was about 600,
disgraceful really we have potentially a top ten side this season so come on and get off your bloody backsides and support your town, you might even enjoy it ! |

Re: Blackburn Tonight.
As always we disagree Redraine !!!.
Don't know about growing,he stands over six foot now and built like a tank !! You now I always look at positives, great kicking game, can throw the ball a mile, good hands and not afraid of leaving his line ( collected a lot of balls on the edge of his box) The sub keeper is an experienced pro and is obviously a decent lad, hope Dawbs listens and learns if we get him. Going back to the game, thought Joycy and windlass were good in possession, and generally the back four kept their shape against decent forwards, lots of room for improvement, but things are looking rosy at the moment |
Re: Blackburn Tonight.
Not being a regular attender, my complaint was that the lads had no name on their shirts, just a number, and that number was not given in the programme/ An excellent game. My man of the match was our No 11. Dawber didn't impress me. The
team did. |

Squad numbers aren't decided until nearer the start of the season. Some of those shirts would only be worn once by a player if he is on trial, therefore the same shirt could be worn by several players during the friendlies :) |

Re: Blackburn Tonight.
I think Dawber was at fault for both goals, and looked a little bit erratic in his decision-making all night. He's obviously got potential but you've got to judge keepers by the mistakes they make not just being tidy and kicking well. Personally I think the lad needs a season on loan somewhere, he's not going to improve spending another season watching someone else, at his stage of development he needs to be playing games and he's obviously not ready for this level yet.
On the whole things are looking promising, some decent performances so far in pre-season but still think we need another league 2 centre midfield player, wide player and a forward. |
Re: Blackburn Tonight.
I reckon the gate receipts from last nights game and saturday's will go some way to paying the wages of two of our lads.

Re: Blackburn Tonight.
Just recovered after 5 hour drive 'home' after the game.
Good to catch up with you, Cashey. Agree with many comments already made. It was a new experience to recognise so many faces in a pre-season game and, perhaps with the exception of Buxton, Mr.Beattie put out what is possibly his strongest squad and gave his friends at Rovers much to think about. Rovers seemed to boss the first 20 minutes or so, but couldn't stop Piero scoring. What I noticed about that first goal was that it came from a good pass from Windass (my Man of the match) out to Naismith right out on the wing. Being out on the sideline he was in space, and had time to run at Rovers defence. (Rovers wide men played wide to good effect in the first half, and I just wish Stanley's 'wingers' would stay closer to the touch line when attacking, where they can either find space or stretch the defence, rather than drift into the middle of the park as if it's their job to mark the full back). Rest of the first half and much of the second thought Stanley were a match for their 'Championship' neighbours. Great second goal (another through ball from Windass?) superbly taken by Gray. On the subject of Dawber, really hope his knee injury is not as bad as feared immediately after the match. The first goal was a misunderstanding; the ball looked just outside the 6 yard box from where I was sitting and Aldred cleared it virtually out from Dawber's arms, straight to a Rovers player inside the box. The keeper had every right to claim it there, IMHO, but maybe Aldred was over-compensating for his keeper's inexperience. Second one for Rovers looked worse, though, and the keeper suffered more than injured pride as a result. Hope young Dawber recovers soon, though the replacement keeper seemed pretty good. Just a pity we couldn't hang around for the Clarets game on Saturday. |

Thanx, Redraine, Grey's goal looks better every time I watch it.
