Official accrington stanley supporters club

Good Afternoon

At last wenesdays meeting of the OASSC a new chairman was elected in Nick Westwell.
The supporters and myself would like to thank Dave of Giftprint for keeping the supporters club alive in the interim.
I would to take this opportunity to bring the club together, directors, players, supporters and office staff.
The OASSC will be having a page in the home programmes to promote our intentions and ideas.
Lets be positive and unite, some can give more than others.
I want to start by promoting our MEMBERSHIP only £5 for this you will receive a brand new designed pin badge sponsored by loyal and quiet as a mouse fan Mr John Hughes.
I will have membership forms on me at all games or otherwise email me on [email protected] and we can arrange for you to be a member.
As of today the membership stands at 62, lets have a push up to 100 by the northampton home game.
There are a few fund raising ideas in the pipeline so watch this space
Next meeting Wednesday 4th FEBRUARY SPORTS BAR 7.15pm

Thanks Nick

Nick;

Great to hear things are moving forward in a postive manner.:)

I'll e-mail you re the Sportsbar; as all bookings go through Emma at the Crown copied to the Club offices.

It's used for numerous events as you'd expect by a good number of internal and external groups.

Re: Official accrington stanley supporters club

Nick i think you should make a website for the OSC! There are thousands of Accrington Stanley fans around the world and the only way they feel attached to the club sometimes is having that membership to the club and feeling part of it.

A website could give all the news about the osc and what is happening, it could also give the opportunity for people to sign up to the osc and to pay through their via a paypal account etc.

The osc needs to move with the times and the amount of support for the club a good website would really get the osc moving....

Ha ha milk on the badge.

At the time of the advert Stanley got paid a 'substantial sum' for the use of the name, but people in the crowd reckoned it was about £10k. No idea if it was accurate, but that was a lot of money at he time with about a £400 gate. However the figures are all complete guesses, I can't remember the admission price that season.

Malcolm Isherwood vice chairman and myself are willing to come and see you over a pint to discuss the matter, we only took over 3 weeks ago and we are not trying to build rome in one day we are trying to unite all parts of the club as one.

cheers nick

Re: Official accrington stanley supporters club

If it's the Official Supporters Club, it would make sense for all information to be held on the official club website. Nothing worse than a new website starting up and seeing it go to the scrap heap after people lose interest - that's not even mentioning the ongoing hosting/domain costs. I'd speak to Dan & Lee Carter to see what the capacity is before going and starting up a brand new site. There have now been two separate Stanley sites that have gone to the dogs and I'd hate to see another one rot away with outdated information.

What the osc needs is a website that has daily Stanley news on , a website where you can sign up and pay your membership for the supporters club, a place where you can order a supporters club scarf or badge. Another idea is to try and branch out to businesses to also sign up to osc. Why not have a weekly email to each OSC member giving you all the news from the week , prices , fixtures, offers, memorabilia in the club shop, events and a thank you for being a member.

They need a good and modern Facebook and Twitter account to mass out to the millions already on there!

Why not create a smart phone app ? Giving you the fixtures , latest news from the official website , news from the osc , videos from the player interviews and links to the goals from fixtures etc. It takes time but it's easily done.

There's so many ideas but like you say, Rome wasn't built in a day.....

baldy 04-02-2015 22:54

Re: Official accrington stanley supporters club

I think Shaker is spot on, for whatever reason before OSC websites haven't worked previously, I doubt the OSC will be doing news stories every day or even every other day so people will lose interest in visiting an OSC website with regular updates.

You need a website that people visit daily and the Official website is one that Stanley fans visit daily if not a few times a week so why not just merge it as one, Even split running costs?

Not sure if you can now but you should be able to sign up to the OSC on the official website, Even if its in the "online shop" section, People from all over the world shop for Merchandise there so could help gain more members that way?

Mr T 05-02-2015 07:23

Re: Official accrington stanley supporters club

Fairly sure that LancsDave has passed on the "webmaster" details to those that need them.

I also believe from Dan that Lee Carter can easily add a "bit" on (section) like the Academy page for the OSC if asked.:)

I get where you're coming from mate, I do, but in my professional opinion (I run the website and social accounts for a large organisation which supports smaller subsidiaries) as well as in my personal capacity as a Stanley fan, I'd strongly advise against creating a new site for the OSC.

The amount of interactive features you're talking about is great, however it is highly demanding on content production. The OSC would have to guarantee that it would produce enough ongoing content to gain support on a separate site - otherwise it would go unnoticed as far as search results are concerned.

You also talk about an app - these, as a general rule of thumb, are either a) very expensive to build and maintain, or b) cheap and full of ads. The most successful apps that are not games are ones that are transactional, giving people the ability to perform multiple functions in one place. If the app only has one function (becoming a member), people will not download it. Apps are quickly becoming a thing of the past for small businesses for these reasons, but also because mobile browsers are becoming much better at rendering websites. Why pay for an app when your website does everything and the take up on the app isn't that great anyway?

In my opinion the pros of dovetailing on the ASFC official website far outweigh the cons for two main reasons:
  • Whenever ASFC publish a link to a news story via their social feeds, or whenever a person is browsing that site, there's a good chance they'll follow a link to the OSC to become a member. You already have an audience here; you wouldn't need to build one.
  • You would have no hosting, domain or support costs (if the club was being super stingy they would ask you to share a portion of their costs, but this shouldn't be anywhere near what you'd pay for a new site).
Creating new social feeds would be perfect. They're free, you have the benefit of making people admins who regularly use social media, and you can use them to link to content on the official website. You wouldn't need to procure half the amount of content you would for a website.

Was agreed to do that, just ran out of time to finalise it.

A section on the official website is best way forward at least short time. All supporter information in one place.

The demands of a website are very big in terms of keeping it fresh with news.

You can now and will be able to do so as long as the OSC require it. It's a bit lost at the moment becuase it doesn't come in to the categories for the retail but if the OSC had their own section it could be moved.

I predict that, when the design of the OASSC badge is publicised in the national press, in both football magazines and newspapers, they will become much sought after. Good to meet Nick in the bar today - and here's wishing success to the fair there tomorrow, Sunday.

Re: Official accrington stanley supporters club

Over £1000 was raised this weekend by members of OASSC who put in some long hours to benefit Accrington Stanley, its been a great effort by a great team, your honesty and social skills have been 1st class, i am a great believer that people buy off people rather than what you are selling.
We will continue to march on together with the next meeting now in the Sports Bar at 7.15pm
Thursday 19th March all are welcome, many new things on the move, come and make a difference and have your say

Have a good day

Nick

Will someone please remind me of the surname of John, who was MC on Saturday when I had a meal in 'hospitality' before the Pompey game. I know him but cannot think of his surname. He did a first class job.

Re: Official accrington stanley supporters club

keep at it Nick (and team), it's great to see the Supporters Club getting in the public eye. I know from first hand experience that it can be a long and arduous, unthanked role - but the payoff can be fantastic when things come together.

Mate of mine picked one up for me on Saturday - looks great from the photo he sent me.

Cheers Nick - Great effort.

Re: Official accrington stanley supporters club

Welcome, Jill. With publicity in the national and the football press, with a photo of the bade, I feel sure many from outside our areas will be attracted to joining.

On Stanley, On.

Re: Official accrington stanley supporters club

I used to sell memberships on ebay - never millions but prob 20-30 a season.

Do you have historical records of members Nick? I may have some books from a few years back or Mel might have some

Whatever we achieve for the good of the club I will support as much as I possibly can. But we must increase our gates attendance some how. we should be able to muster 2000 as a home crowd from a town of 80,000+ A letter to the local press may help.
