Barnet match thread

No wonder nobody wants to start the thread after such a lack-lustre performance when we yet again throw away a good lead and demonstrate our complete inability to deal with 10 men. Mind you, I never felt comfortable even when 2 up. An opportunity thrown away.

Didn't bother, stayed at home in the pub. Watched it on live text though but to be honest wasn't as bothered missing it as I thought I would be. And the irony is that I have a flexi ticket so the club didn't lose out.

Whilst I agree Redraine i have to give respect to Barnet they never gave up. we did at the last 15 Mins. we should have brought Buxton on to shore up the defence and played one up front. But I am not the gaffer, it is a shame as it is two point we needed, like we need every point we can get until the end of the season. a few clean sheets are needed desperately.

Barnet defence i thought was well drilled, but 2-0 up against 10 men, can anyone tell me WHY an extra striker wasn't put on, in fact why no subs were used,:(

Woke the wifey up with a loud expletive when Barnets equaliser went in. So with the disappointment of dropping 2 points comes the prospect of living with a grumpy woman for the day. :(

Threw 2 points away today, thought we would have had a right rollocking from Coley at half time, seemed to work for a few minutes, when were 2-0 up, I said it would be good to keep a clean sheet, & then we concede one!

If Coley was unhappy with Tuesday's performance, I look forward to his after match comments today!!'

Was never going to be an easy game, and defensively they were well drilled.
We showed patience and dealt with their direct approach reasonably well.
Their long throw specialist threw the ball into dangerous areas time and time again and we adapted to suit.
Eventually we got our rewards with two decent finishes.
They immediately made substitutions, removing the long throw guy and were a better team for it.
Our Achilles heel of being unable to keep clean sheets got us again.
Firstly,Matty unbelievably allowed himself to get the wrong side of his man ( had a great game tho) Then Halliday? gave away a cheap free kick and big centre forward powered home a header from it.
I still believe we should have brought on mccarten on,even before they went down to ten men as they were tiring at the back and it would have suited his direct running.
Two points lost, but I think we did enough to win the game, just individual errors cost us.

Exactly Shay shoulda been on when they went down to 10 men, RANK poor management today imho.

WE had a half time presentation to Shay at half time, presumably for L2 player of the month. To have him sitting on the bench throughout was at least negligent, at worst criminal when golden boy was giving one of his masterclasses of ineffectiveness.

2 points thrown away today, having said that if the lines-man had of been up with the play he would have seen that their big no. 9 was in an off-side position prior to passing to their no.12 who scored their first goal

Re: Barnet match thread

I agree 100% with Cashman and Football19 that we THREW AWAY 2 POINTS today!!:eek::eek:
The first half to me seemed somewhat lacklustre and Barnet were looking happy to keep the score at 0 - 0 which I think they would have been happy with at full time. We had more of the possession in the first half but I don't remember us actually making a real scoring chance before half time. The Assistant Referee on the Whinney Hill side was hardly ever up with play and Barnet got away with some decisions fully three yards offside! :confused:The big lad Akinde up front was proving to be a handful and did more than his fair share of shoving but was rarely penalised!:pnowink:
The second half began with us providing a bit more 'Zip' and eventually our pressure told and we got the important first goal from Billy which was fully deserved.:theband::alright:
I could see the Barnet players heads droop at this stage as they clearly expected us to go on and totally dominate and score more goals!:)
The same Assistant Referee was still behind play as we got away with a couple of offside decisions too....at least he was consistent....CONSISTENTLY BAD!! :bingobang
Barnet were clearly hanging on at this stage and I thought that, as we put them under increasing pressure, the Referee should have awarded us more free kicks than he actually did and he therefore he would have issued them with a couple of yellow cards for repeated fouls.:whack: Most of our threats were coming down the right wing via Pierro and Halliday. We duly scored the second goal which was great for Crooksy after the criticism that he received following the previous match.:theband:
Barnet made all three substitutions early and then one of their lads went off with a knock which left them with ten men for the remainder of the match. Had we been ruthless at this stage we would/should have scored again and won easily! Barnet continued with their direct style and we allowed them to dominate some possession even though they only had ten players. For their two late goals it was difficult from the Clayton End to see what was going on, down t'other of t'ground, but we seemed to give Akinde and his mates far too much respect and time on the ball and they nicked a couple of goals!! Having just watched Coley's interview on the Fishy site he took issue with the Referee about a foul for the first goal and a ball possibly being out of play for the second goal! I couldn't tell from the other end!?:idunno::idunno:
This probably goes down as one of Barnet's best results of the season but really we simply let them off the hook. Coley should have brought on Shay McCarten when they scored their first goal to freshen our hold on the game. My view is that the best form of defence is attack. There were times late on when we had such an overwhelming amount of time to build attacks, due to them packing all of their players in defence, that our players almost got in each other's way but really we showed a basic lack of guile of how to break down their defence.:egged:
LEAVING THE GROUND TODAY FELT MORE LIKE A DEFEAT THAN ONE MORE POINT GAINED!:(:(:(
We definitely need to develop a much more RUTHLESS STREAK and KILL THESE TEAMS LIKE BARNET OFF.:knife::conny::knife:
I think that Coley should be harsh on the team this week and get them to think a bit more NASTY and RUTHLESSLY when we are in front, but also look at his failure to make an effective substitution or two when it was clearly needed!

COME ON STANLEY:theband:
RUTHLESS AND RELENTLESS:mad:
TRAMPLE THE OPPOSITION INTO THE TURF:gooddog:
THREE POINTS EVERY MATCH:signbeer:

COME ON YOU REDS
:wave8::signbeer:

Another agonising experience following things remotely.
On Tuesday night, Professor Coleman made two subs when Stanley were 3-0 up, and was criticised for it by some, and today he's criticised for not making subs when 2-0 up. Who'd be a manager?

Aye but they were down to 10 men and virtually every week, we hear we try to win every game, well saying and doing were always 2 different things.;)

Of course it was Sean's fault - what isn't? This constant criticism of the lad, no matter what he does is wearing a bit thin - yes, we threw the 3 points away but by no means was it the fault of any one player - fgs give the lad a break!!
