By all accounts this will be very difficult, crap pitch, crap weather forecast, I reckon the 3 pts will be yon, if we have 11 battlers on the pitch, gonna be one hell of a fight,

Report from the Northampton game yesterday suggest that Newport, as with Stanley at Sixfields, were very unlucky to end up losing 1-0.
No easy games in League 2, but I expect the home team will be used to playing on a ploughed beach and Stanley's defence will have to withstand wind-assisted aerial bombardments. Just like they did at Oxford:)

Just had a peek on Newport's forum, some posters on there suggesting game could be in doubt due to 2 rugby games being played this weekend on what they call an already fragile pitch, add in to this the weather that's forecast over next couple of days - hope it's not called off, looking forward to the trip & wouldn't fancy doing it midweek

Just read pretty much the same, although one poster feels that the pitch could get a load of sand dumped on it and then rolled in. If the team go down there today, practice on the nearest beach to get a feel of the pitch. Wonder what Somerset would make of this?

Re: Newport Thread.

After fridays exertions i would rest the team and play Mooney in goals,Liam and Bucko fullbacks,Joe and Dean centre backs,Crooksey and Proc centre mid,
New lad on left wing,Bocco on right wing with Josh tucked in behind Terry.
Only joking of course, but you dont realise what strength in depth we have until you study it.
Question, who would win if they played each other !!!!

Rugby from newport on s4c now. Parts of the midfield look unplayable with massive potholes in mud and sand. Stanley might do better stopping the coach next to a ploughed field and training there.

You deserved more and if it wasn't for a wonder goal by loanee Joe Pigott you would've done.

That's all he ever done for us after the fans paid for his services.
Think he's on loan at that horrible club in Bedfordshire now. I hope you make the play-offs and if they make it you beat them.

They are so deluded they honestly think they are a championship team (well the majority of them).

A bit more optimism on the NCFC fans' web site about the game being on, but not about the state of the pitch.

Is it possible that this Stanley team maybe copying L'il Wigan of a few years back. i.e. when they got promoted to the FL they struggled for about 10-12 years but following that, got promotions all the way up the ladder to the PL. Stayed there for 10 years and won the FA cup plus the Auto Windscreens trophy (now paint pot trophy). Be nice to dream, but why not have some ambition, Hope Jack Barrett and Eric Whalley are watching from on high. :)

Three magic moments in an otherwise forgettable game.

The first was a brilliant save by Ross low down to his left when still 0 - 0. The other two were our well-taken goals.

There was no hope of playing skilful football on that pitch. It was drier than I expected but the playing surface was abysmal.

We won by effort, desire and determination - yet another gutsy team performance. Well done the Reds.

And a word for the referee - awful.

It's fine, had a pm from my alter ego :) - I was at the game & saw his/her posts when I got back on the coach. Checked their profile & it gave their location as South Wales, which obviously was where I was at the time

I fully agree, but for me, what makes it more interesting is the Devon derby between Exeter and Plymouth. Could easily be lying 3rd by next Saturday evening. No easy games between now and the end of the season, just one helluva and exciting ride. Here's hoping we don't have to do the play off route.

I agree 90%. The other 10% thinks going via the playoffs to a Wembley final might - just might - finally get the attention of the good citizens of Accy . On the other hand, the thought of losing in the playoff semis again is just horrible .

Agree that it has been good to be just off the radar for so long. With the tv media mostly based down south, it is understandable why their expectations are focussed on the city of Oxford, city of Plymouth, city of Portsmouth, city of Bristol. I kid you not, most of the people I'm long exiled among think Accrington is a suburb of Liverpool (can't think why ! ). However I am thinking with seven to go it is time for the squad to hit the front (well 2nd realistically) and steamroller for the runners up spot behind Northampton. Yeah, a little bit of me had thoughts of a Wembly trip but the scars of Stevenage soon put that to bed. Starting to get over-excited - where's me pills - - - - -

Crooks back in the team? dunno whether I'd want him in to be fair! He probably is the best player in the division on his day, but hasn't been too fantastic since he wrapped up his multi million pound transfer. The last couple of games or so we have seemed far more solid at the back with Brown patrolling in front of the defence. Crooks gives us the better attacking impetus and Brown the better defence. Who'd be a manager eh :)

Talking of attacking, did anyone get an impression of Mr.Fosu-Henry's potential in his 20 minutes on the pitch? Importantly, does he have a left peg?
And talking of wingers, from the video I did notice Piero's contribution to both goals; in the first he got stuck into their defender for a 50/50 ball and it spun free to Matty Pearson to provide a deft cross. Not every diminutive winger would put in such an effective challenge against a big strong defender.

Only one goal conceded in the four games that Scott Brown has played. To my untrained and unbadged mind, that kind of solid defending breeds confidence throughout the team. If the team knows that we are likely to concede, that puts extra pressure on because midfield and forwards know they will simply have to score to get anything from a game.

It was impossible to judge anyone on that pitch. He never seemed to have an opportunity to take on his full-back. I can, however, recall 3 occasions when he closed down an opponent and prevented a clearance.

Not every diminutive winger would put in such an effective challenge against a big strong defender.

No need to use the word "diminutive", Exile!! As I have commented above, Fosu was certainly willing to challenge for the ball.

If they are all match fit, don't change the team for Saturday. Brown has worked tirelessly in closing opposition midfield down and going for 50/50 balls. Every team benefits from having someone like him.

Professor Coleman's MO seems to be sticking with a winning team, except when a changed is forced on him with injuries or call- ups.
It's beyond most Stanley fan's wildest dreams that someone of the quality of Mr. Crooks may well have to wait his turn.
I'd guess he would be a good sub (but not in the last five minutes) if Stanley found themselves a goal behind early on and were up against opponents intent on defending that lead.

Had no idea Shay was on International duty....... Was he a late call up???

Little mention for Shay, although the under 21's were beaten 3 - 1 it was Shay who got the Irishmen's goal :)
