Wycombe Match Thread
What a MASSIVE game in the history of 'Little' ACCRINGTON STANLEY tomorrow at Wycombe Wanderers!:alright:
We should have several hundred supporters at Adams Park to cheer on the team!:s_gupjump:s_gupjump:s_gupjump:s_gupjump Everybody there from Accy just needs to SING and SHOUT, CLAP, HOOT and BANG THE DRUM as loud as possible tomorrow!:theband: Let's be more than a "TWELFTH MAN" ............ ........let's be TWO EXTRA MEN!!:Banane05::Banane05: If you cannot be at the match, then join in by shouting at the radio, teletext or 'Live Text' feeds and you never know........it might just be a help! I have not been to many away matches this season but it will be a magnificent turn out tomorrow by the greater STANLEY FAITHFUL......:alright: .......I would however, like to show my admiration and appreciation for the small band of the most 'Hardy' Stanley Faithful' who have been to away matches up and down the country ALL SEASON in the dark, cold, wet depths of winter and at some financial cost. Often they have just about managed to enable one coach of supporters to travel but some have even gone when hiring a coach was not viable financially. Well done TRUE REDS!!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup: Ash Seed has done a brilliant job all season once again in encouraging us to travel and in enabling the coach hire. Well done and thanks to Ash!:bow8::bow8::bow8: Well, we finally have a great turn out of RED SUPPORTERS TOMORROW, so give it EVERYTHING and cheer the boys on to GLORY!!!:theband: ON STANLEY ON:wave8::s_gupjump:s_gupjump KEEP THE FAITH:alright: |

I know I keep saying it ,but keep a clean sheet and anything is possible, jet lags disappeared !!!:) |
Re: Wycombe Match Thread
Of course the Stanley train continues to the last game of the season 1 point from Oxford and 2 points from Bristol rovers. So a win next week will get us automatic promotion, a draw would also only if Oxford lose. Hope for a big crowd next week
|
Re: Wycombe Match Thread
500 Stanley fans according to Radio Lancashire. That's a very impressive away following for us!!:D
How many will be on the Crown next Saturday? 4000 maybe? I've got MY ticket anyway! |
Re: Wycombe Match Thread
According to reports, the referee and his sidekicks were crap. They turned down 3 possible penalties and could've cost us a place in the top 3! These idiots are in abundance in League 2!

well done to the Stanley boys, big game next week against Stevenage cos we still owe em one..............big shout also for the 584 travelling fans I could only manage radio coverage today and it sounded amazing........Dan Jewell commented on somebody with the shirt off would that have been that Rob Russell.

Re: Wycombe Match Thread
Not me this time, but plenty were topless and twirling their their shirts.
Happy campers indeed today. The noise was on another level altogether today. Constant and LOUD from half 2 onwards |
Re: Wycombe Match Thread
Game was fairly even, we had better shots late in first half. Wycombe looked better after half time without having many shots at our goal.We scored just when Wycombe started to look threatening. Windass had been up and down but his excellent free kick has won us the game(and mark's follow up). We saw the game out well. Halliday was my man of match, he everywhere so great tackles and linked up to join attack well. The atmosphere was brilliant. Let's spread the word and hopefully get a massive turn out and this time not let Stevenage get In the way of us getting to the old school 3rd division.

Re: Wycombe Match Thread
Well luckily enough its only a couple hours back to East London from Wycombe so im back in the work digs.........
First thing to note was the support......... I think 580 was the official number, certainly the largest ive seen for a long time watching stanley, well done to all that made the trip. As for the game, as others have said I thought the first half was fairly even. Etheridge didnt have a save to make as far as I can remember? Not sure about 3 penalties.... But we 1000000% should have had at least 1. Piero again took a big knock in the first half and never really recovered which was a shame. Windass for me M.O.M. Made the game look easy at times, but doesn't help himself with some of his theatrics. Wonder if next week can actually be a "sell-out" ..... ironically a term we haven't heard at the Crown since we played those clowns in the playoff's. Quick side note, big thanks to Wycombe who for me, in terms of organisation and friendliness are by far and away the best in the division. On Stanley on. |

Re: Wycombe Match Thread
Smelling salts finally kicking in after all the excitement. What a result and what support!
It was b****y hard work. Wycombe harried Stanley and gave them little time or space then, when they had the ball, seemed to want to play beach football by trying to keep it constantly in the air. Weird tactics but, combined with Stanley's obvious nerves, it made the first half a tad frustrating. They created some good chances but appeared not to want to score as Etherington really didn't have a great deal to do, although he did that well. Second half saw Stanley, and the fans, turn the screw and the goal just had to come when it did. As others noted, ref was inconsistent (pulling Fosu down by an arm around his neck merely warranted a foul) but, to their credit, the players kept their heads and it just seemed to drive them on. Can only hope Wycombe get their shooting boots back from the menders before next week's final fixtures. |

when I gets home the wife says "you've been shouting, 'cos your all hoarse". Answered with an emphatic neigh. Sorry, tired old git ready for Horlicks and shuteye.
Seriously, what an atmosphere - 'n the match was at least an hour away and not thru' the turnstiles yet ! Deserved hard fought victory against a decent side aided by a ref determined not to give a penalty though several valid claims. So, a decider against that side we all love from Stevenage - have tickets, will travel - old LongLost is coming home for the party. |

cold up the moor but really exciting two hours listening to radio lancs. firstly f.c. oyston going down then another 90 odd mins of torture. fags and coffee running out quick. this is going to be a long week to Saturday. come on you reds we owe Stevenage or whatever you want to call them one. then the party can really begin.

Re: Wycombe Match Thread
Best away support ever, not just numbers but also in volume, pride and splendid one-eyed passion for the Reds. Was walking up the road to the ground about half-two and could hear the drum and the singing, and thought, 'Blimey, they're in the ground already.' In fact, there was a massive party going on in the car park, helped a little by the fact that Wycombe had put a beer tent there!
It was a game of low quality but high tension, settled by the one moment of class from Josh, with a terrific free-kick that deserved to be a goal in its own right, but was saved by the excellent Wycombe keeper, who also kept out a couple of long-range efforts in the first-half. I agree with F19 about the safety-first approach, putting Halliday in the middle in the absence of Crooks is making us very difficult indeed to break down, but puts a huge onus on Billy and the two wingers, who also do their fair share of defending as well. Chances aren't as easily created without Crooksy, but if you aren't conceding then it only needs one chance to land on Billy's right peg and we're home. |

Re: Wycombe Match Thread
It was the most nerve wracking game I've ever been to. We had a great time, my 3 kids were singing on the way home.
I'm cancelling an operation so I can be there for the last game. No way I could miss it. |
Re: Wycombe Match Thread
WHAT AN INCREDIBLE DAY OUT AT WYCOMBE FOR THE STANLEY FAITHFUL AND FOR OUR TEAM!:mosher:
The pressure was certainly on Accrington Stanley......... playing AWAY at Wycombe Wanderers, a team with an excellent defensive record and with Oxford United and Bristol Rovers both breathing down our necks and just waiting for us to slip up!:bingobang The response from here UP NORTH was just FANtastic......:theband: Coley and Jimmy; Set the team up for this match perfectly both physically and mentally.........:bow8::bow8: The PLAYERS; Once again responded with TOTAL COMMITMENT and TEAMWORK......:wave8: And the STANLEY SUPPORTERS; Certainly played their part! Turning out in great numbers........A MAGNIFICENT...... 584 FANS...... I believe is the official figure for the visiting supporters.....Yes 584 supporters showing the same level of energy and commitment as the players. :s_gupjump:s_gupjump:s_gupjump All returning home later totally shattered; Management, players and supporters having given everything on a memorable day for our club!:signbeer::rose8: All of these factors combined to produce a highly successful outcome in gaining THREE MORE POINTS on our journey towards PROMOTION.:mosher: Such well organised stuff from Ash and his helpers in getting the coach seat allocation done very efficiently at The Crown and around the ground. A great trip down the motorways with superb singing at the Motorway Services........:hothothot BRILLIANT singing and drinking before the match on the Wanderers concourse enabled by sensible stewarding by the Wycombe security staff........:jimbo::wave8: From the moment we all moved onto the Away End, the Stanley Ultras (and more) sang and sang and sang our hearts out never ceasing form the first whistle to the final whistle.......:theband: And then singing on and on until the players came out to unite with us in song and celebration.........it was FANtastic stuff indeed.:bow8::bow8::bow8::bow8: The actual match was less significant than the result as far as I was concerned. The play was somewhat spoiled by another inconsistent referee :swear8::hitting8:and a Wycombe side who were quite 'robust' in trying to deal with the threats of Billy, Pierro, Josh, Brad and Tariq. We had a couple of good penalty shouts turned down and their debutant keeper made some good saves, and we didn't really get any proper 'breaks' until we scored. After that we could easily have scored again and 2 - 0 would have been a fairer reflection of how the match had played out. To their credit Wycombe had a lot of possession for 25 minutes or so after half time and the relief was palpable when we scored...Actually NO that doesn't do it justice........WE ALL WENT SIMPLY BARMY....hugging anybody within reach.......Grown men shedding tears of joy and relief........:jimbo::smack::smack::cuddle: and then the jangling nerves watching the clock countdown to 90 minutes and then.......OMG......ANOTHER FIVE minutes extra to endure!!!!! What a relief at the final whistle. 1 - 0 to us........ VICTORY..... and THREE MORE POINTS!!!:mosher: The Stanley Faithful sang on and on until Coley brought the team out.......What an atmosphere and heartfelt gratitude there was between players, staff and supporters........"ONE ACCRINGTON STANLEY"......(some words from one of our long time chants)........but certainly true of ACRRINGTON STANLEY THE CLUB ON THIS PARTICULAR DAY! :theband: AWESOME....AWESOME....AWESOME....AWESOME....SIMPLY AWESOME....:mosher: Now......we move on to THE FINAL SHOWDOWN against an 'Old Enemy' next week....... So...SAME AGAIN EVERYBODY next Saturday and we will complete another amazing chapter in the history of our FAMOUS 'LITTLE' BIG CLUB......... ACCRINGTON STANLEY......... THE CLUB THAT WOULDN'T DIE! :theband::cheers::theband: ON STANLEYON......:mosher: KEEP THE FAITH......:mosher: "BELIEVE":mosher: |

Re: Wycombe Match Thread
To those frustrated at not being able to watch the highlights abroad:
I take it you are aware that there are ways around that. I can watch the highlights in Spain. You may not want to invest in a VPN tunnel at this late stage of the season, but there are some relatively inexpensive deals to be found for next season. Hughes doesn't score many with his feet, does he? If his shin had been half an inch thinner he would have missed! |
