Port Vale Match Thread

The EFL have confirmed who will be the match officials against Accrington Stanley this Tuesday night at Vale Park.
Eddie Ilderton will be the man in the middle of Port Vale’s clash against Accrington Stanley.
This season, Ilderton has officiated in:
3 League Two games
3 League One Games
2 in the EFL Cup
Having officiated in ten games so far, Eddie has given a total of 25 yellow cards and five red cards.
It will be the first time Ilderton has took charge of a Vale game since 2016 in the 4-0 home defeat to Burton Albion in March.
He will be assisted by Joe Clark and Peter Gooch, while Craig Taylor will act as fourth official.

One of those EFL Cup matches was our 3-2 win over Preston. We had him for our 1-0 win at Crewe on New Year's Eve. We've had a few games with him reffing, including the home play-off against the Wombles. And he once sent Terry Gornell off at Morecambe.

I am compelled to go to the match tonight even though Er Indoors has the car for a ladies night out in Ramsbottom.

I've found a cheap train to Stoke and will then run the 3.3 miles to the ground and run back after the match. Such is my current level of dedication.

Got to agree Cashy!
A little disappointed Dallison or Sykes haven't been selected after their excellent performance against Boro.

Very poor start. Vale very well organised, and we are making no inroads.

They've hit the bar twice and scored a well taken goal.

Atmosphere dead as a do do.

Re: Port Vale Match Thread

Think we only had a couple of efforts apart from the goal. Nolan over the bar and a blocked shot from Jackson.

They are good in the air and really dangerous down their left flank. Left full back looks very lively. Can't see what we can do. They are happy to watch us pass it around and wait til we lose it. Maybe it's just more of the same and hope for a draw or a touch of magic.

Kee looked like he took his goal well but we are miles away from the action in this massive ground.

Their fans unhappy with the ref. Especially after one of their players theatrically dived clutching his face after a Seany tackle.

Re: Port Vale Match Thread

Great result, first 30 minutes port vale where better side, we where looking similar to second half on Saturday against Cheltenham. Then Billy scores a decent goal (he hadn't been in game upto that point really). Second half we improved, good cut back from mcconville for goal. Seen it out well until last few minutes. Which was a scramble in our box but 3 vital point where held on to as we move forward in this year's campaign. Wilks didn't deliver when he came on I am afraid.

Yep they have been for awhile now. dont think owt will come of it though, hes managing a possible promotion side, against a possible non-league side, not a good swap.

More thoughts. from our end when Clark went through second half we should have had a penalty. Thorniley was a solid choice at right back. Port vale had enough chances to on another day at least get a point of us. But who cares!

Re: Port Vale Match Thread

Travelled home with a Port Vale fan and a neutral. Both thought the ref had a shocker. He even got a lot of stick from the home fans when he gave them a goal kick instead of a corner for us!

I was surprised that so many Vale fans left early when there was still a chance of a late equaliser for them.

Lord Didsbury 26-09-2017 22:27

Re: Port Vale Match Thread

Yup, looked like a foul on Clark to me but not sure he'd reached the penalty area. Sending off if not.

Wilks might not have got in the game too much but chased as per usual and had a couple of little runs. Jackson did nowt tonight.

MOTM has to be Coley. He sorted out what was going wrong but hot on his heals was Rawson. He's a solid player. Bronze medal goes to Chappers....I think he's the darling of a lot of fans at the moment judging by the reception, the shouts of praise and general applause (and sighs of relief) when he safely handled crosses.

Dare we say winning when not playing particularly well is the sign of a title winning team? You bet. Stanley's going up as champs!

Re: Port Vale Match Thread

First half initially lacklustre, Stanley plenty of possession but mainly poking the ball around then the Vale men stirred things up about 22 mins in 1-0 Vale, against the run but quick attacks from them had the players dragging across the field. To much concentration down the right from Stanley with an occasional flurry through the middle as the Valiants took control of the centre Ground.

On 36 mins Billy Kee (again) levelled things up 1-1, coming from an attacking break from the Red men & the game settled into a tedious to-ing & fro-ing grind holding up to the Refs whistle for half time.

Start of the second & Stanley came out with the motors running looking to be better from the off but again too much concentration on the right wing, a couple through the middle & the odd punt along the left. 62nd min & all change "king Billy" once again showing his worth all ably assisted by the Man McConville! 2-1 Stanley.

Stanley pushed for about 10-15 mins but without any real joy the Vale men once again showed a tenacity that had the reds on the back foot, young Chappers, was somewhat more bothered by the Valiants resurgent but the boy done good with some timely stopping.

As usual with the Stanley, the last 15-20 were the worst for the onlookers, a fair bit of pressure but the mighty Red sponge soaked it all up but not without the odd scrappy scramble to maintain the scoreline :-

Port Vale 1-2 Stanley

Happy Days! Roll out the Nut Cutlet Crew Saturday & lets make mincemeat out of them (Just so long as it's Quorn/Soya they shouldn't mind;))

The whole defensive unit deserves credit for surviving the Pope and Tyrone Barnett potent combination post vale goal. Rawson is solid but not currently as highly rated by me as some other defenders with have had in recent years such tom aldred.

Even though we haven't played that well in our last two games we have taken four points. This is due to our newfound potency up front. We look capable of converting any half chance that comes our way.

Chappers was excellent again tonight. His confidence is growing game by game.

Special praise for Big Janoi. Absolutely everywhere.

Re: Port Vale Match Thread

Thought Nolan had a better game tonight, seemed to win a lot of 50 50 balls in midfield, and involved in the build up to both goals. Don't think we were far off a decent performance for large parts last night, main problem felt the passing was hit just behind a player a lot, so turning the man around and allowing vale to close us down, also some passing under hit. Need to win 2 in a row now to consolidate our position.

Kudos to Dave in Germany for his most excellent match report.

Chevy - I think the thing about Rawson is that like the other defenders he rarely puts a foot wrong but also his head is on a lot of high balls.

Reading the Port Vale thread and The Don and Clark appeared to be players singled out for praise. They really rate their new left back (I thought he was outstanding for an hour) and, of course, how they would love Coley as their manager.

I ran to the ground from Stoke train station. Jesus, unremitting 3.5 miles of uphill through some very drab areas. Someone last night told me theirs is the second highest ground in England. If I'd known that I'd have got a taxi.

Third, according to this:
The Highest and Lowest Stadiums (England and Wales) - Midfield Dynamo.

And only 4 feet above the Wham. I suppose it all depends on your starting point.
