As for the Courts, you need to understand that with all the sentencing guidances and protocols - which Judges must follow unless there are exceptional circumstances - a Judge can’t necessarily impose the sense that he (or we) would want. Hang ‘em and flog ‘em is long gone. And I know first hand of what I speak ….

The prat who ran into Harry needs to be prosecuted for encroaching on the playing area and for a common assault. That would result in a Football Banning Order, which might be a deterrent to others. With the current guidances though I suspect he’ll get a caution instead …

as far as im concerned he should be jailed simple as. but theres no chance of that the system is much too weak.which you have just shown with your view of what he will get,

Correct Andy. As soon as idiots are given a chance to manipulate an outcome the game's dead.

Country's gone down hill since women were given the vote.
Should send him to Van Diemen's land.

Good debate though. Wish a few more had joined in. Nice to see we can have differing views without falling out hahaha !

Can’t be jailed for “invading the pitch” - only carries a fine

Common assault does carry a possible prison term but having seen the video it isn’t near to the custody threshold

Really ?
So the fan made Harry miss, the fan made Mitch hit the post when really it was a sitter ?
Come on. We got the penalty the lad was sent off we got 8 minutes added.
Bad decision by those on the pitch.
Why McConville didn't step up and slot it way I do not know. Harry cannot have been focused upon the job in hand.

Bang on mate. Plus Harry told the cops to do one straight after so he's not pressing charges.

The Police could still apply for a Football Banning Order on complaint to a Court, but might just settle for the Club’s own stadium ban

I would suggest the fan had an influence on the missed penalty. Pell's efforts aren't usually as shoddy as Saturday's.

That's sufficient to constitute manipulation.

Whether you consider that manipulation to be a material factor in the missing of the penalty is a different question.

Leaving Saturday aside we have been guilty of missing sitters all season hence we are were we are in the table against Morecambe we should and could have been 3 up before we gifted them 2 goals and 2 points you can moan about officials and luck until the cows come home the players picked that cross the white line on match days are responsible for the majority of results outcomes.

That’s why I think making Rotherham play behind closed doors for, say, four games, is a better option.

Weak court sentence for the young moron will be worn as a badge of pride.
Banning order for one fan - so what, he won’t be the only idiot?
Paying a meagre fine, but keeping the points, won’t make Rotherham take on more stewards (not that stewards can do much other than react).

Closed stadium games will, in effect, be a fine on the club AND will make it absolutely clear to fans that these actions will impact everyone.
Who knows, more fans may then not glorify these morons and (as Stanley ultras have, almost, done with the flare-maniacs) exert more peer pressure to stop it being repeated.
