Tranmere away
Decent first half in my opinion. Slightly More creative lineup today, and it shows.
I have never been a great Quirk fan but he has done really well at left-back today. Coyle’s lack of ball skill brought him a correct yellow, but otherwise we have been the more skillful side, and the (just) better team. Hunter did well to create a chance for himself on 35 minutes but wasted it. Otherwise we do not really look like scoring. Josh Woods is a decent second striker, but as the lone man up front he scares nobody. Still, small step forward. |
Re: Tranmere away
Would like to see Brown and Walton on together at some stage.

Yessssssssss !!

Re: Tranmere away
Me too,
But we are one up now. Well taken, Shaun Whalley! |
Re: Tranmere away
Hope Doolan can curb his park the bus-instincts. Far too much time left for that.

Re: Tranmere away
Park a feckin aircraft carrier for all I care, just get 3 points!
|
Re: Tranmere away
Late drama! Walton misser a sitter on 94 mins then a Matthews block saves us.
Well fought, lads! |
Re: Tranmere away
Good stuff !!! I will now 'caress' the little white ball around the course this afternoon.

Re: Tranmere away
Fantastic result and, from the commentary on Radio Lancs, well deserved. Sounded like Matthews and Ward were outstanding but all players put in a shift. Only downside were three missed chances. But 3 points make up for them and was just what was needed.

Re: Tranmere away
Well played lads! Massive result :mosher:

Re: Tranmere away
Quirk, Mathew's, Ward and Love.......all great at the back....
Grant and Coyle....holding midfield Up front still not sorted.......since we lost Costello.......all we know is until its sorted, you can't leave Shaun out if he's fit..... |
Re: Tranmere away
Best game in a while. The extra (compared to the last few sorry games) midfielder helped.
Quirk did add a bit of creativity, too. Would like to see O'Brien-Whitmarsh given a start next time. Hunter put in a good shift, too. |
Re: Tranmere away
Waking up this morning, its just brilliant after last night's away win at Tranmere.......can't stop smiling....

Re: Tranmere away
And another manager pays the price for losing to Stanley ☹️

Re: Tranmere away
"They haven't won here since 1958", said the commentator at last nights game. As if to emphasise what a bogey team Tranmere have become for Stanley.
For all fans of Div3 North, the result was identical - 0-1. Ah! Those heady days of 1958, when Stanley ended the season runners-up to Scunthorpe & Lindsey Utd, narrowly missing out on automatic promotion to Div 2. If ever there was an adage that summed up last nights game it was surely -'You can't put an old head on young shoulders'. Up until the 49th minute this was a game with 0-0 written all over it. Devoid of any real quality, it was a scrappy game being fought out by two teams stuck at the bottom of L2 and it showed just why. In the first half Stanley were presented with at least 3 golden opportunities to score but Love & particularly Hunter conspired to waste each one with rashly impulsive decisions. It took our veteran captain to take the one opportunity he was given to apply some wisdom and calmly trick one defender to volley the ball superbly past the keeper & put Stanley 7 points clear of the abyss. I can only disagree with other comments that we were the better team. Particularly after the goal, Rovers upped their game and began to put us under sustained pressure. Their general passing & possession was far superior to ours. Only their abysmal finishing ability and a defence on a par with 'Rorke's Drift' ensured we came away with all 3 points. If I were John Doolan, I would make the whole bl***y team practise 100 x times 'one-on-one' situations with the keeper, until they engaged their brain before shooting wide or straight at him. Our 'Goals For' tally would treble overnight. |
