Something To Think About
If against Carlisle earlier in the season Ged Brannen stepped up to take the penalty and just tapped it for a Stanley player making a run from outside the box (the legal distance away for penalties) and this player, say Rory Prendergast had scored, would it have counted?
If yes (which i think it would) reverse the situation a little and imagine Prendergast had still managed to miss Brannen's lay off. On the records or when you looked on teletext, newspapers etc, would it come up as Brannen or Prendergast missed pen. Thoughts please :D |
Re: Something To Think About
It deffinitely would have counted had he scored.
As for who missed the pen, I suppose technically Brannen would have missed the pen whether Prendergast scored or not because Prendergasts goal would not go down as being a penalty. |
Re: Something To Think About
So well done.. started a thread..asked a question, thought about it then succesfully answered it...
No point the rest of us being here really... hehehehehe:) |
Re: Something To Think About
I was just giving my opinion on it seen as no one else was answering it, i could be wrong i just think it deffinitely would have counted
OK then, lets extend it........... should Stanley do it on a one off occasion, would it work do you think :) |
Re: Something To Think About
Law 14 A team-mate of the player taking the kick enters the penalty area or moves in front of or within 9.5 m (10 yds) of the penalty mark:

Re: Something To Think About
Bazf where you get that from?
This scenario (spelling) happened once in Holland during Cruyff's era. Remember seeing on the telly a couple of months ago and the 'keeper was completely dumbfounded. Quick one-two from the spot and in it goes. Cruyff was the one who took the pen and laid the ball sideways for someone else to run in and score and it was allowed |
Re: Something To Think About
rory wouldn't be able to run into the box until the ball had been kicked, bazf's extract is for encroachment (reminds me of a dodgy ref in an ultras game at rhyl).
not that we get penalties very often, either for the first team or the ultras, despite several recent stone wall claims from both sides. |
Re: Something To Think About
thin it should be allowed because its just like the ball hitting the post as no other player touches it then either
|
Re: Something To Think About
It would've been Rorys Goal, and gone down as a Ged Brannan Missed Penalty.
This coming from Championship Manager experience ;) |
Re: Something To Think About
We should do it on a one off occasion, rehearse it in training and run up to the ball pretend to shoot the keeper would dive on floor then a player runs in and taps it in other corner :D

also if the ball rebounds from the goalkeeper, crossbar or the goal post and and is touched by this player the referee stops play annd restarts with an indirect free kick to the defending team TAKEN FROM 04/05 LAWS OF ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL |
Re: Something To Think About
If the opposition aren't expecting it and you can shift the ball (in any direction), you can change the angle of the shot, reduce the distance from ball to goal, confuse the keeper....i'd say your chances are increased significantly in a one off situation!
