What Does It Mean When Your Ceiling Moves ?
Just asking really before the council house inspector comes and fobs us off with a load off bull.
This is in no way a complaint against my neighbours upstairs (Hiya Debbie, lol).
The flats are only seperated by wooden floor boards and my ceiling has developed a big crack right across the middle. If Debbie has a few adults in then my ceiling starts to bow in the middle. Do you reckon it could be the joists ????
Oh and i couldnt ask for better, quieter neighbours who have to tip=toe and jump over floorboards in the morning so as not to wake me up or disturb me. To which i am truly gratefull.
Cheers
Chrissie

Re: What Does It Mean When Your Ceiling Moves ?
It certainly could be the joists and it is as dangerous for the people upstairs as it is for you. The council need to check that out right away before someone gets hurt.

Re: What Does It Mean When Your Ceiling Moves ?
This is serious. That floor/ceiling could fall through injuring the people who are standing on it when it falls and anyone below who it falls on.

Re: What Does It Mean When Your Ceiling Moves ?
I reported it on Monday to the council and they couldnt give me a date as to when the inspector will come.
So, still waiting but its only day 3 and of course not forgetting the transfer to the private section is going through at the moment.

Re: What Does It Mean When Your Ceiling Moves ?
Just to back J5b's story...When my 8 year old or anyone else walks near the back of my lounge the bookcase rocks! Its worse when my daughters 17 stone boyfriend comes to visit. I have had to tell him not to go near the bookcase as last time he did, my clock fell off the top of it

Re: What Does It Mean When Your Ceiling Moves ?
Don't just wait for them to send someone round - phone the Observer and get a reporter to come and have a look. Tell the Council you're going to the national press about it - just the sort of thing they'd love. Also threaten to come and squat in the Town Hall on the grounds that your premises are dangerous.
You'll no doubt get something done pretty quickly.

Re: What Does It Mean When Your Ceiling Moves ?
I bet if you asked the council to send you a compensation form, because someone has actually hurt themselves they will have someone round very soon.

Absolutely no idea Mani. I would say at a pinch post war council. Have even heard that these flats used to be large houses at one time.
