when my Dad (and myself) was born there it was still part of Lancashire

Geographically it still is, but the "Posh Scousers" are in the majority nowadays. Incidentally when I was born in Liverpool was still part of Lancashire.

Take a look at the Friends of Real Lancashire (FORL) website to learn that Liverpool and Southport are still in the county of Lancashire, of which the Queen is the Duke.
