Clapping - too noisy?
Do you find clapping to be unnecessary noise?
This has been highlighted today by the unconventional behaviour of SNP MPs in the commons.
I must admit that I sometimes find that it goes on for too long and is irritating.
When I listen to old comedy shows on the radio, it seems to be a frequent irritating waste of listening time. There are better briefer ways to express enjoyment/appreciation - a single 'hear hear' or 'bravo' is enough - or even pleasant sounding laughter when appropriate.
I find the loud the prolonged sound of clapping irritating - do you?

Re: Clapping - too noisy?
Clapping for the right reason is fine Margaret, it,s a reward for services rendered. Not something ever deserved in politics, I would suggest it was delaying tactics, just claptrap.

Re: Clapping - too noisy?
I don't mind clapping for the right reason.....to show appreciation or approval.
It must be great to have done a performance and get a response from the crowd.....after all that is what you are there for and that is what they have paid for(usually).
I am sure I would feel disappointed/demoralised if I had done a performance and was met by a wall of silence.

Clapping is wonderful it drowns out the sound of karaoke 'singers' that are murdering a popular song.

Re: Clapping - too noisy?
I applaud MargaretR for this. You've got to hand it to Margaret P too for the way she handled her response. She could have just palmed it off.

Re: Clapping - too noisy?
I tried to imagine Bernard Manning's reaction if he told one of his best jokes and the audience shouted 'Bravo'.
I couldn't.

They could say a lot with their thumbs as well- no clapping, cheering or booing needed.
