I've just had a look. It almost looks like they just walked out half way through a shift and never went back.

That's very interesting G. I knew the son of the proprietors, think he was called John. Can remember back in the fifties going up to the factory with the Parish Priest of St Marys, Fr Smith, who was a very keen gardener, and we picked up some seconds flower pots for use in the church gardens, I spent a lot of my spare time working in the church gardens whilst I was still at school, in fact I nearly made a career of gardening, but changed my mind at the 11th hour

Re: Holding's Pottery.

The last time I remember going up there would be in the late eighties.
I was up visiting from London, and ended up there on a walk with my parents.
We bought some nicely glazed vases, which we still have.
Shame it closed, after such a long time.
The clay's still there.
Perhaps a potter in the future might start up again.

I think Grayson might find it a bit too draughty up there.

Re: Holding's Pottery.

The only potter up there for many years before they closed just after he left was a chap called Rowland Tregurtha and he was my wife's uncle.
He is still alive and lives on Roe Greave Rd.
The other folk who worked there only pressed pots etc but Rowland worked the wheel.
He once let me have a go and from a great big dollop of clay I managed a 3 inch diameter ashtray. he made my wife a decent size flower vase and we got them both after he had painted glazed and baked them, We still have them.
I will dig out a photo of him at work and see if you can remember him.
