Re: Meet and greet

Well it went ok - didn't get a huge turn out but then again I didn't expect a huge turnout. Big topics for debate actually turned out to be the light in Rhyddings Park and of course, parking along Union Rd.

What was the feed back from the light? Good or bad?

Bad. Said it attracted groups of youths like moths to a flame!

Re: Meet and greet

Lol. The Park Lane brigade still at it

Well from what we've seen there is less loitering, and although there is still some vandalism, the playground is in a hell of a lot better state for the children than when it was hidden away under the trees behind the Stop and Rest.

Perhaps that's why I'm having trouble sleeping? Although Mum lives facing the park, I live half a mile away. Can light travel downhill and round corners?

Re: Meet and greet

At the last Friends meeting someone asked if the clock could be reset on the light because it now goes off one hour earlier than before the clocks changed. He stated that with the light going off early more people are congregating around the playground. A couple of members of the neighbourhood watch said there were less numbers around the play area than before the light. Personally I would like to see the whole park lit along the paths etc. I am very concerned about the safety of people walking their dogs during darkness, which is very early at this time of year.
Did the people you spoke with have any ideas for an improvement Gayle? What about CCTV on the play area? The bowling green is now covered by CCTV.
I was talking with our local police beat manager last Sunday, he informed me he has made several arrests in the park over the last few weeks. Not only local Oswaldtwistle youths but also some from Clayton-le-Moors.

Re: Meet and greet

The lighting of the whole of the park was one of my questions to PB when the single light was first discussed. I would hope that it would be included in any park refurbishment.
The bowling green, given the light levels in that area, and knowing they are using the same kit as the RPNHW, don't think the CCTV will be any good at night.
If the light in the play area is attracting groups of youths like moths to a flame, then it's having the result the residents of park lane said it would.
On a technical point regarding "the light" it is not the type or size of column that HBC applied for in the planning application.
Oh on a point of interest the street lighting for park lane used to be "in the park" along side the bottom path.

The cameras on the bowling green look different to me. I will PM you.

From the comments I am getting it would appear there is a difference in opinion on that.

The light is not attracting more people to congregate at the play area, but less. As you know we have a very good vantage point and are happily monitering the situation for you now you've moved.

I do agree that more lighting on the paths but would make it safer. The whole reason the light works at the play area is because they can be seen if they are up to mischief, this sadly wouldn't be the case if it was put on the bowling greens.

What a bizarre thing to post. Either you were there and know how many people turned up, in which case you can't say that nobody turned up, or you weren't there and would have no idea how many people turned up.

This person mentions PB in a few of his posts.

I noticed that as well mate. Looks like we were both reading all of his 4 posts. He mentions him in 3 of his 4 posts. Maybe it is Peter himself

Perhaps if he'd have a fag he'd have realised one of the posts was in the wrong place.
