Oswaldtwistle Fire Station
Does anyone know anything about the owners of the old fire station. Apparently, since it was bought a few months ago it's very quietly changed hands a few times.
There's a right mess been left behind it by the travellers and I'm trying to sort it out but they can't do anything at the Council until they find out the owners.

Re: Oswaldtwistle Fire Station
Suprised the council dont know who the owners are. Should the owner not have registered their ownership with the council when they bought it? As for the travellers it sounds like they left a large "calling card" the minks! If it is a health hazard how come the council havent started a clean up?

Re: Oswaldtwistle Fire Station
It would make sense if the buyer had to register the purchase with the Council for it to be legal. Unfortunately it looks like that is not the case.

Re: Oswaldtwistle Fire Station
Shouldn't the owner be paying business rated council tax on this property? Even on empty property you have to pay half.
I bet if it was some old lady who was a month behind with her payements, they'd be threatening her with the baliffs or prison.
A quick phone call to the estate agent who dealt with the sale, should reveal the current owner.

Re: Oswaldtwistle Fire Station
They had the same problem finding out who owned the empty land behind Catlow Hall Street. The land was sold a couple of times and ended up belonging to some offshore company, or was that the Fire Station, I think my brain if failing again. It is time for a mental reboot I think. It looks like the law needs tightening up on business land/property ownership.

Re: Oswaldtwistle Fire Station
Try the Land Registry, on line. It will cost you two quid:
http://www.landregisteronline.gov.uk/
However, depending on how recently this property has changed hands, it may not be fully up to date.

Re: Oswaldtwistle Fire Station
It's changed hands a few times recently so I don't think land registry will be up to date on it yet.

Re: Oswaldtwistle Fire Station
So, I'm guessing you're the Landlord at the Tinker and Budget??
Well, I've been trying to get them to clean it as well but you've done slightly better than me in that you got someone to call you back.
I haven't really noticed much of an improvement but I haven't been up that way since Friday (I live at the bottom of Mill Hill) so I'll take a look and report back later today. If it's not been done properly I'll be back on to them tomorrow. It's a health risk and doesn't look good at all.

If you do know who owns it know why not inform the Council so they can approach him to sort the area out?

The Council should have had no need to do any tidying at all. It is the responsibility of the land owner and not the Council. I don't want my Council tax spending sorting out neglect caused by land owners not securing there property. All it originally needed was a fence erecting to prevent access to the rear of the Fire Station and we would not have had an issue in the first place. I suspect someone bought the property and was only interested in making money so did not care about securing it.
