Re: Oswaldtwistle Shops
By the way, I was told last week that soon the Co-op is too be halved in size, and the other half will be a separate concern.

Re: Oswaldtwistle Shops
What is wrong with a gun shop, guns are just a lump of metal and wood, its the idiots behind them that cause the trouble. Guns don't kill people.
People kill people with any thing they can put there hands on.
You cannot uninvent the gun, at least that shop is bound by the Firearms act, and acting within the law.
Its the unregistered firearms you should be bothered about.
People are too ready to accept the medias version of guns, theirs is to sell newspapers and have folks gawping at the tele, truth and facts don't come into it.
I have been around guns for nigh on 60 years, I taught my children to shoot and handle guns safely, so much so, they shamed other members of my club with their knowledge of the safety rules.

In answer to your question, there's nothing wrong with gun shops.
It's the rather large, illuminated sign, sticking out into the road, advertising the fact, in what is supposedly a conservation area, that was the problem.

Re: Oswaldtwistle Shops
I think you've totally misunderstood people's concerns.
They were purely aesthetic.
Just my thoughts...so don't shoot the messenger.

Re: Oswaldtwistle Shops
Yes it was only when it became more visible that I started to get bothered by it.
My objections are
1. it doesn't give a friendly impression for visitors - especially being so close to the theatre
2. it's promoting something which young impressionable children might think it glamorous (it's just opposite the bus stop for many of the Rhyddings School crowd)
3. it's an ugly sign in a conservation area
What's really, really annoying me now is that the shop itself has shut down but I spoke to the people at the council and the sign can't be removed. Once it's had planning permission the only person allowed to remove it is the person who has the permission i.e. the owner of the shop. This means that all the reasons that I listed above, which are mostly aesthetic as Garinda pointed out, can't be addressed because no one has powers to remove it.

Re: Oswaldtwistle Shops
How it was granted planning permission in the first place is a mystery, in an area the council decided was a conservation area. Shops aren't even allowed to have roll-down security shutters outside their properties.

Yep, applies - the owner sells on the planning permission as well so only the owner can take it down even if it's a new owner. It's like if you buy a plot of land where planning permission has already been granted the Council can't take it away.

Interim Planning permission only has a shelf life of 5 years though, but as you say Gayle once full planning permission is grated it can't be taken away

Yep, just been told the same thing but they didn't seem to know what the other half was going to be. You'd think they'd know.
