Oswaldtwistle to Drop "Twistle,"

Just came across this headline, not from the Observer, but the New York Times, in 1927!

Unfortunately you have to pay to read it, and I'm loathed to...just yet.

Anyone already a subscriber, who'd care to share what put Ossy in the international press, or know what it's all about from more local sources?

Re: Oswaldtwistle to Drop "Twistle,"

I don't know where you found it, but if you look on Lancashire Library's siste - Lancashire lantern' you will find that it is possible to search what is called Gale's newspaper Index by using your library card number. This may be one of the papers yo can search. I usually look at 19th century English ones. All you do is put a keyword in - 'Oswaldtwistle' and it brings the article up.
