Pelican Crossing Outside Moorend Chippy
Does anyone know who I can contact regarding this pelican crossing?
I know it seems petty but I use this crossing four times a day with a variety of my little charges (I'm a childminder). However, the time allotted for crossing the road is soooo short and we have to rush across the road. This is worsened by the fact that drivers, as soon as the amber light flashes start revving their engines or actually cross over the lines.
I know the crossings further down Union Road (outside Whittakers butchers) last for much longer and I just wondered whether there was someone in the know as to who manages these?

Roads come under Lancashire County Council so you could always try your County Councillor although I suspect he is a little busy at the moment.

It would only be passed on to above Neil. They do appear to respond very quickly though.

Re: Pelican Crossing Outside Moorend Chippy
reardless what colour the lights go to while you are crossing no body should be setting off anywhere until you have cleared teh road as it is not safe for them to do so.Iv seen idiots setting off and swerving around old people who havnt had enough time to cross there as well as teh problem you have its just a pitty there arent any police around anymore and teh only driving offence you can get done for these days is speeding and thats becsuse a camera does all teh work.
good luck with LCC they are thick as pig muck and probably wont even attempt anything to sort this issue out until a pre determined amount of people have been killed just like they wont sort out red light jumpers at dill-hall lane or even put up deterants like red light jumper camears.
just goes to show though how many idiots there are out there when they think it pefectly acceptable to force past children on a crossing

Will make a bet with you Accyman that they do respond to Jeni's concern and spend a few of our council tax pennies (sorry pence) surveying these lights to assess her concern. Ten quid do it ? Over to you Jeni .. keep in touch..

Re: Pelican Crossing Outside Moorend Chippy
i think they will respond, when i filled in the online form the other year over the pot hole thing up Bash they rang me back within a day or so and within another day it was sorted, like the bloke who rang me said, it is impossible to monitor everything that is going on, they rely on the public to let them know when things go wrong

Re: Pelican Crossing Outside Moorend Chippy
Just to update, I fired off the eform as soon as you posted it KATEX (thank-you). No immediate response to that so this a.m. so I rang the Highways Telephone Number direct.
Am impressed. Got transferred straight away to a person, not a machine, who knew exactly what and where I was talking about. They informed me that each and every crossing on Union Road is being updated as they are out of date and cameras are being fitted. He presumes the length of time for crossing is dictated also by the proximity of the mini-roundabout further up but that there is now a standard time that should be allowed given that young children and the eldery/disabled my need longer to get across the road.
They have engineers updating the crossings in the area at the moment and so he will get one of them to look at it but - as always - it comes down to money. They have assured me that it will be investigated this week and I can call back on Friday.
Will update this thread when I have extra news. Thanks for the assistance everyone. x

Re: Pelican Crossing Outside Moorend Chippy
It should really be replaced with a Puffin Crossing or a Toucan Crossing.
