If you think we are doing a good job why post such stupid pictures when you know we want them for a calendar?
We all know what a mess the park is. That is why we are spending so much of our own time to try and make a difference to the park.
Why don't you make a contribution to the park and ask mick to remove your post?

Re: Pictures of Rhyddings Park
Just found a few more
I think the last one shows where the pavillion used to be, the little dears thought they would have a bonfire. Another good clearing up job by HBC. Would class it as a H&S problem

Dear me are you loosing your temper, I thought that the pics would be useful to show a before and after image.
I lived facing the park for 27 years and have seen for myself the sad decline of a great faciltiy, we used to have a band-stand, and a pavillion but the little dears of Ossy decided to burn them down, that was years ago what have HBC been doing in the mean time.................not a lot.
I see what I see and say what I think, if you do not like it then as far as I am concerned that is tough. OK my friend

Don't need any credits Gayle, the pic is just one of many I have taken over the years that show the decline of the park, It is really sad to see it in the state it's in today. I remember Mr Pratt running round the rose garden several times each day.(lived in house at corner of Rhyddings St & Hornby St)

Re: Pictures of Rhyddings Park
Instead of starting a new thread, thought I would bring this one back to life.
From articles in both the LET & Observer I see that HBC have pulled the plug on the Heritage Lottery Grant and have withdrawn the bid.
What effect is this going to have on the Friends of Rhyddings Park?
Are we going to finish up with the park being closed by HBC on health & safety grounds if repairs don't get done soon.
Do they not have a maintenance budget for "park repairs" if so where do they use the funds

Think if you read the article it says they have been advised to withdraw the bid as it stands because they wouldn't stand much chance of get a grant in the category they were applying, but I think they will be trying for another grant, but maybe Neil or Gayle will give more info, as I think FORP had an emergency meeting to discuss the matter

I quote the Headline from the Observer
"Parks funding bid fails"
I did read both articles.
If HBC try for another grant/bid will that not be the third time a lottery bid has been put together for Rhyddings Park. It would seem that they meaning the officers of HBC are not able to get things correct.
I am also sure that the friends of rhyddings park will give us more info.
Getting back to my previous post, what happens meantime, is there a danger of the park being closed on a health & safety issue, since the paths due to lack of maintenance in previous years are in a very poor and dangerous condition.
The question stands What now?

Re: Pictures of Rhyddings Park
May be if our Councillors donated their increases in allowance to the parks maintenance fund it would help. The rises vary from 2.50% up to a staggering 144.14%
Council makes a meal of rises - News - Accrington Observer
Note the 144.14% is for an evening meal, to qualify the councillor must be away from home for more than 4hours and beyond 7pm...............wow.

Re: Pictures of Rhyddings Park
Why has this old thread been dug up for a new topic?

If you read the articles you will see that the friends of rhyddings park are mentioned in the articles, and since this thread involves the friends of rhyddings park there was no point in starting another thread.
I asked a simple question " what effect is the withdrawal of HBC's lottery bid going to have on the friends of rhyddings park"
