I should be on a finders fee, for AGSOB.

I'll bill you when I've finished Bob.

Dave Pearson, 1937 - 2008.

(Not born here, but of interest because Accrington is mentioned as being near his final home, which it's hoped will be a museum in his memory.)

Re: Accrington born artists.

Apparently born in Cornwall, of Yorkshire stock, but was Principal at the Accrington School of Art.

It's listed here that there is a painting by him in Manchester Art Gallery, done in 1932, titled 'Accrington from my window'.

Sadly I can't find an image of this painting, or mention of it in the gallery's present collection.

At an early age, he was "bound out" to learn art, having demonstrated some talent as a young boy. Although the extent of his artistic training is not known, Maudsley's paintings show that he was a relatively accomplished amateur artist. This updated drawing may have been completed in England or Nauvoo.

Oh you are a star.

Thank you.

I LOVE it.

Is it still in the possession of Manchester Art Gallery, I wonder?

I wonder where his window was, that he painted the view from.

I can't work out which side he's seeing the viaduct from.

I really do like it.

There's an early spring calmness about it.

The calm before the storm.

Going through the war to end all wars, and not knowing what horror lay ahead.

Re: Accrington born artists.

Just seen the Town Hall, he's looking down, towards the north east.

Can't think from where.

I suppose that might be Longridge Fell, on the very distant horizon.

Re: Accrington born artists.

He did live on Eaton Bank, which is elevated and overlooking where the old maternity home used to be (sort of behind Lee Royd Nursery School) - and of course it has a birds eye view of Accrington centre.

Double star!!

I've had a map and a ruler out!

Wasn't too far away from there.

Thank you, again.

Re: Accrington born artists.

Charles Frederick Dawson - former principal of the Accrington School of Arts and Crafts.

I was always under the impression he was born near Scarborough and educated at Bingley Grammar School???? He won medals for his work in painting and design and a distinction in architectural design. A textbook written by him "Elementary Design" was published by Chapman and Hall. According to "Who's Who in Art" his principal works were "Thistledown" and "At Aylesbury" in water colour and "Polperro Harbour" and "The Hall" in oils. One of his works "From my window" done after his retirement, was purchased by Manchester Corporation (as you said garinda). Amongst his pupils was Mr Walter Marsden, the sculptor who designed war memorials of St Annes and Gatty Park, Church. (His wife also taught at the Art School and she too was a good artist).

What skills we have lost!!!!
